Near, I just don't like him. Now grantted, he's not my most hated character, but, I still hate him. Before I start, I compare Near to L a lot in this, but him not being L is not why I hate him. L is just the easiest person to compare him to.
What makes Near a reasonable character to hate, is just how different he is than L. No, I do not mean his hair color or the fact that he's a kid and L's an adult. Near just has a different way of handling the Kira situation. Now, granted, their methods might seem similar, but, where L does investigation work, goes about and actually does something, Near on the other hand, stays in, plays with his toys, and has other people do his shit for him. And, Near wins this way. Near is lazy, and he wins. What. The. Fuck. L does all this shit for the investigation. He follows Light, steals phones, and even handcuffs himself to Light, but Near just has other people do the work for him. And he wins. By crap that is stupid. It is not just this though.
What makes L a really good character, is how he and Light interact. They are interacting with the enemy. They act as friends, but they also try to outsmart them. They are reading each other. They have to be side by side, wanting to beat the other, but they can't show it. Near, just makes a few phone calls to Light. They never get a chance to truly interact wth each other before the final showdown. They don't get used to each other. They're interaction is like a chatroom. They don't see the other person, and you can only go so far doing that. This also ruins another aspect of Near.
Because we can see L and Light's interaction, we know a few things about L that a common person wouldn't. We get to see his little quirks and habbits, but we also see different sides of L. We see him angry, calm, distressed, pissed, stuff like that. Since Near don't have this interaction with Light, we only know a limited amount of infromation, and it's like "WTF, give us more" and they don't. There's a limit bewteen "mysterious" and "needs more character development" and Near is of the latter.
All of this, and he doesn't die. I mean, it would be a much more fitting end, if Near did die. I just feel that, if he did die, the ending would be, at least ten times better. Aside from the fact that he is hate worthy, it's like L and Mello and Kira, why not him.
So, yeah, I just felt like doing this, and I may do more later, but I'll see how this turns out.
