Well, I'm not the one who created it so I can't say for sure. However, emo is fairly known modern term so I see why it was used.
About the emo tag: It's not referring to the music/fashion, but the attitude (EMOtional). Although emo did originate in music, it has a new modern meaning, which we use on this site. The tag generally used for people who are overly emotional, in a bad way ( characters that often mope around and are particularly whiny and self-pitying, try to kill themselves, miserable, etc.). Hope that clears things up a bit! :)
Ditto with below post.
By all means take it up with the admins, I just volunteer here :D But as of right now that's how we are using the tag. I do agree with you btw, and I think it's a totally stupid tag name.
Thank you for your help to Anime-Planet =), unfortunately we had to deny the removal of the "emo" tag from Nozomu Itoshiki. Particularly because he's a character that's constantly trying to commit suicide and has a cynical view of the world, he fits perfectly under our guidelines for the tag (not to mention the hair style). Another note I'd like to leave is to avoid resubmitting the same thing multiple times. See this thread: http://www.anime-planet.com/forum/completed-character-submissions/67187-denied-nozomu-itoshiki-sayonara-zetsubou-sensei-submitted-unknown.html
If you look over the above thread, you should understand why we did not accept it. Despite this-- we hope you continue to help Anime-Planet become a better anime database. Thanks a lot!
