General comments: Serial Experiments Lain is a deep and intricate show. It's both thought-provoking and emotional. The seriousness of it can seem odd to those who are used to more colorful animes, and because of that, it's not for everyone. But as you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, you shouldn't judge this show by its first episode. General statement: Samurai Champloo is one of the rare animes that is able to pull off a historical setting without it being too serious or too utterly ridiculous. The plot relies on actual Japanese history blended with funny modern touches that keep your interest. Even if you're not hugely into cultural studies, you can still enjoy the show, which is something that I have to give the creators props for.
