Kampfer is your typical harem with a bit of a twist the male lead, Natsuru, can transform between the sexes. Yes you read right, he can transform from boy to girl and back again. I thoroughly enjoyed idea because not only were people after this guy side but his girl side as well. I know the idea is not new, Ranma ½ comes to mind, but it is done in a way which was interesting and worked well.
Kampfer has your typical characters, the dense male lead that is oblivious to the feelings of the girls around him, the shy girl, the energetic one and the smart, devise type. Each of these girls has fallen for Natsuru for various reasons and each want to “advance” with him.
The story I thought was a little weak, there is one but it really didn’t have much of an impact. The selling point of this anime is the interaction between the characters and the various situations that the male lead gets himself into.
Kampfer is at times funny, interesting and keeps the audience hooked for the next episode. There is definitely a lot of fan service in this anime but there is enough to keep most people interested. It didn’t open any new dimensions in the harem genre but it did achieve what it set out to do, supply an entertaining, worthwhile watch without investing a ton of time.
