about me

I've been watching anime since many years; I started with shows like Dragonball Z (the show that got me hooked to anime), Pokemon and Digimon on YTV channel. Little did I know then that so much more (and better) anime existed out there!

I enjoy all kinds of genres, but I tend to lean towards person-in-a-strange-world, post-apocalyptic, adventure, martial arts, survival, fantasy, medieval, melancholy, slice of life, romance and shoujo... I'm less fond of shows like Air, Kanon etc with super stereotypical girls and cliche storylines with atleast one girl who's really stupid silly and makes strange sounds all the time or the shows where a guy suddenly has a girl make herself at home at his place and 1/2 the show consists of your usually accidental nudity-ness and face-inbetween-legs... I'm not too fond of mecha/pilot shows either unless they're decently realistic and followed by an engaging plot. Comedy's always good, unless it's the repetivite guy-falls-onto-girl-accidental-groping stuff. But really, anything that has a great, unique, thought-out storyline. Let me know if you come across a very realistic show with little plot holes and cliches, with a thought out and thought provoking storyline that I haven't seen.

I prefer Subs over Dubs any day, and I never rate anything lower than 2 or higher than 4.5; That's just the way I am... I also become quite the critic in face of a show that has a weak story and many plot holes, especially when it's a more serious series.

I have a deep love for anime music. Some anime OST's that I really enjoy: Hirasawa Susumu, .Hack, Death Note, Tsubasa Chronicles, Code Geass, Fate/Stay Night, Naruto/Naruto Shippuuden, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni & Kai, Full Moon Wo Sagashite, Shakugan no Shana & Second,Basilisk, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Uverworld,  TM Revolution, Clannad, Kiyoharu, D. Grayman, Rocky Chack, L'arc En Ciel, Ghost in the Shell, Eureka Seven, Maaya Sakamoto, The Pillows, and I really enjoy Minoru Shiraishi's performances (and his troubling relationship with Akira in LS ^.^)

It's hard for me to choose a Top 5 list, but lets just say Death Note, Mushishi, Nana, The Twelve Kingdoms, and Samurai Champloo. Other shows that I really enjoyed that didn't make my Top 5 list, in alphabetic order: Basilisk, Boogiepop Phantom, Claymore, Fullmetal Alchemist, Haibane Renmei, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni & Kai, Kino's Journey, Kurau Phantom Memory, My-Hime, Ouran High School Host Club, Paranoia Agent, (Peacemaker Kurogane), Towards the Terra, Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge. I've yet to make a proper, thought-out top 5 list.

Just in case you're wondering, the girl in my avatar and signature is the awesome Sunako from Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge!

When I'm not watching anime, I'm baking healthy vegan recipes for my blog http://nocrapdiet.wordpress.com, making one-of-a-kind jewelry on Livejournal (gemstone_jar), listening to AnimeNfo Radio, and planning crazy adventures and roadtrips across Canada. If you're looking for any cosplay jewelry or clay character keychains, ask me and I'll see what I can do! =) I'm interested in cosplay and I've made a costume for someone before, but I have yet to cosplay myself. I'm waiting to find a character that I look very similar to.

Roadtrips!  Awesome. Where did you go?  I dunno what SCA events are but that sounds like fun too.  I'd love to come see the new website.  I'm glad its doing well.  Infact I've been trying my go at making a website myself. (For all my kite making)  But sadly I kinda burned out after the Home page. lol

I watched a few new shows this summer.  But mostly was doing some rewatchs like Full Metal Alchemist.  I've been trying to get my little sister into Anime, so I started there.

Lets see I watched: Hanbun no Tsuki ga Noboru Sora, Cowbot Beebop, Samurai Champloo, and some Memories Off. Oh and me and my bro watch Chrono Crusade.

Mostly this summer I was kept busing at work.  I got to do some pretty neat (and expensive 0.0) projects.  But I wont bore with the details.  My family went to the Outer Banks, NC for the 4th of July week and it was a blast (no pun intended)

Hows archery coming?  Are you still showing up all those combound bow wussies?

p.s. I need to watch Death Note.

I'll definitely check out Memories once I've recovered and probably deeply considered all the ramifications of Higurashi. I am fairly certainly Higurashi barring an awful ending is going to get a five star rating and upset my list yet again.

Higurashi spoilers

My head is spinning but I've grown used to to after watching so much Higurashi lately. My friend and I are both hooked--we've managed to watch all of the first season and about half of the second in three days time, with a five day break during the week. It's innovative to show different potential story arcs...and then try to avoid some of them. I am impressed how the same basic scenes can be shown again and again but be interesting and new each time. Between the first and second season the transition was rough (though I am pretty sure it was intentionally helpng the viewer to understand what was going on after a long break), but so far it is all pulling itself together well. This last story arc is really intriguing because it seems too early for an ending arc, so my friend is predicting something is going to go wrong.

Rika is by far my favorite character and I was I could say it was completely rational. Something about the first opening with the mask...I live the symbolism there. Hiding your "face", you very nature, the aura of mystery. (Gosh, I just realized dumbly that Hakuoro also was a masked character). One of my friends pointed out, sometimes people of the same type of hair color, have the same type of personality. I was thinking about it, and that's probably true...blue is restrain, control, calmness, serene, introspective...that's what it tends to symbolism and many shows have characters that follow that pattern. Plus, she has her own word (much like the female leads from Air and CCS), and desu on top of that. The advent of a famliar as well...almost too cool.

Higurashi spoilers

In a strange turn of events, I ended up watching the first 13 episodes of Higurashi yesterday.  It has some interesting symbolism and a strong (if confusing) plot.  (I was thinking about how Sakato sacirificed her friend in the flashback for her own crime, then how she ended up sacirficed one the shrine altar.)  It seems like each character is getting her own story arc.  Thus far I really like Rika, simply because she's the only one that hasn't gone crazy evil and tried to kill the main character.  The scene after he thinks he kills the uncle was very unsettling, because he thinks he's been accepted into the fold...but I'll probably try to tear apart the entire series when I finish it (might be some time, was watching it with a friend that I tend to only see on weekends).
