... more like Massive Cliché Overload!
Naw, it's not that bad. Well, I watched the first ep and I feel somewhere between satisfied, mildly bored and kind of tired. While the good production values were likeable and I felt a promising setup, none of the characters seemed original. Fumino was just a slightly nicer edition of Mayu from Kimi ga Nozomu Eien. Then there's Chise, who's like an exact blend of Louise (Zero no Tsukaima) and Nagi (Hayate no Gotoku) What a surprise she's not voiced by Rie Kugimiya, though her seiyuu tries hard to come close, haha.
Now I've really gotten to the point where I got accustomed to watching moe series and actually really enjoy some wholeheartedly, but Mayoi Neko Overrun! seemed kind of lazy at this point. Most characters personalites are close to copy pasted from other series, nearly everything has been there before. But it's still too early to judge - from ep1 on now one can see where the plot is going - I'm still waiting for that bit of fresh air or surprising character development and all.
I give the series this though:
I love anime openings, like about 85% of the time, even with some of the cheesy, crappy or totally overproduced ones you can see me dancing around or vividly lip-synching while I hit the gym. But this one just didn't do the trick - it was kind of "Oh, I think I heard a few similar ones.. in the LATE 90's, but better!" This was the first time since ages that an OP made me lift an eyebrow. Arrangement has that certain low-budget-midi-charm to it while the vocals and lyrics just make me cringe. "Happy New Nyaan!?" I mean... REALLY???
Let's see... next up to watch from the current season: Angel Beats!
