Osanajimi no Mune ga Ookikunatta no wa Ore no Sei Kamo Shirenai

Jul 4, 2020

Spoilers and such about the dictomy of the human psyche and emotions The true horror, is the dissatisfaction we face in emotional affairs. A truly cosmic bending one-shot about a girl, massive ass cow tits from Frustration Syndrome; where when you get frustrated from some shit, your body changes respectively. The lesser horror is becoming a Lovecraftian titty god, where even when you do, you can't get through to the one you love until you beat him senseless with your feelings. Absolutely god-tier in everything, highly recommended with a heartwarming ending that is a testament to the eternal power of love... See full review

Rookies

Feb 11, 2014

Story: In a nutshell, it's about delinquents playing baseball and their coach/teacher who talks about dreams and inspires said delinquents to stop doing delinquent behaviour and play some baseball. It really is about delinquents and baseball and those two aspects, together or separate, are 90% of the manga in it's 24 volume run. Seriously, baseball. Loads of it, and you can bet your ass it's some damn good baseball. Baseball games, like any other game in manga form, take place over a few volumes, to better display how fucking awesome it is. Here is no exception, be it length or awesomeness. The games are... See full review

20th Century Boys

May 5, 2013

Story: Naoki Urasawa's name on the cover is a seal of quality. You know the series you're about to read is some of the best in the genre, if not the entire damn medium. He's just that good, and 20th Century Boys is no different. A tale of heroism and heroics, childhood dreams and growing up, good vs evil and confrontation, it spans a nice set of volumes and with detail, loads of dialogue and for here, the power of music, driven by T.Rex's 20th Century Boys. While the tale is a long one, it has the Urasawa style of taking it's time. It doesn't rush and for better or worse, it gives you all of what you need... See full review

Ouran High School Host Club

Oct 2, 2012

I truly adore this series. Started reading it when it was still ongoing, waiting for each chapter to be released, up to it's conclusion. It's a simple premise; a girl has to crossdress as a guy to pay off a debt to a host club and while it starts as a comedy with any hints of romance played for laughs, it later on delves more into romance as feelings become clear and hearts become known. So comedy -> romance, but it does both quite well and the comedy isn't completely absent when the romance kicks in. First and foremost, Haruhi is the straight man in a world of boke, thanks to Tamaki and the Hitachiin... See full review

Maison Ikkoku

Jan 7, 2011

When someone says Rumiko Takahashi, you may think of Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha. But instead you should think of her romantic/comedy masterpiece Maison Ikkoku. It's one because of the story it tells, the characters that inhabit it and the feelings that live in them. The story is simple and keeps it's feet planted firmly in reality; real life. It feels real, the events feel real, the emotions feel real, everything feels real and that's the beauty of it. No fantasy, no sci-fi, only characters and a setting that could be seen in the real world and it's through this sense of realism that I really felt for Godai as... See full review

You know, I really wish that for all the works made by Naoki Urasawa that are reviewed, they would simply say: "Made by Naoki Urasawa. Stop reading this and go read/watch -manga/anime being reviewed-". But alas, sometimes one thinks they need more of a reason than the series being completely awesome or the creator being as equally awesome. Then again, it wouldn't fill the reader's noggin with praise for said works. And then again, they shouldn't need to be told that he's awesome. They should know it. Oh well, lets begin. To start off, it uses an arc that appears in Astroboy and makes it it's own... See full review

Deadman Wonderland

Story: Framed for mass murder, wanton slaughter and 16 other assorted accounts, Ganta is found guilty and is sentenced to Deadman Wonderland, a jail where the public can watch some fun death games and badass blood fights. Family friendly fun for all! I should also mention that it's a literal wonderland, with the jail smack dab in the center of an amusement park, complete with a ferris wheel. That's how they roll, and they're rolling in a MacLauren, one of those super fast race cars; it's that good. The concept of jail for convicts and those with super powers who also happen to be convicts is awesome and... See full review

Secret Santa 2013 Review Story: Cutting out the filler, it's about a guy who has super eyes but a weak body so he gets the help of a sexy ghost whose previous life was a swordswoman of a school of badass swordmanship, "Fist to Face Sakura Sword Style". She helps him become a kendo practicioner by using her methods and techniques and his super eyes. That's the story in a nutshell and it goes through plenty of training, angst at being too weak, all the shit that any main character who has to rise to become the top has to face, except it cuts out most of said shit and as a whole feels like that... 21st Century Boys

Nov 9, 2013

Not nearly as sublime as the uncannily sublime 20th Century Boys (2 volumes compared to 22 but shush) but a solid follow-up nonetheless on one of the most magnificent and unbelievable works in manga ever. You fall into two camps: The first one, the uncultured heathens who haven't read 20th Century Boys, and the second one, those who have walked the path of Kenji and Friend. First camp, leave this page and begin reading. Second camp, this is the grand finale of the series. It wraps up the saga of Friend, the Kenji Faction and all inbetween. As a conclusion, it does a fine job all things considering and is a... See full review

Good Luck Girl!

Aug 7, 2013

Story: I just adore this series. The comedy was spot on between the main protagonists and the side characters in relation to them and each other; how it could be so perverted without overdosing on ecchi; the sad moments that the characters reflect upon and the bright side at the end; how the characters grow and evolve as the series progresses and the characters themselves that help make up the world of Binbougami Ga. Sometimes it's antics involving the main plot of Momiji trying to get Sakura's fortune energy, other times it's about side characters and going deeper into what made Sakura into what she is... Mizugi no Sekai

Mar 1, 2013

That's my face through the entire thing. Not only is it a one-shot, it's a one-shot about a world where people wear swimsuits. All the time. And this is at school, where they got out of the wet, wet outside, in their swimsuits. It is exceptional: in it's delivery, in the art, the colour, the wetness of it all, dat milk, even when writing on the board it's delicious. Considering that it's swimsuits and nothing else, I'm scoring it appropriately, with 90% of the score going to art, fanservice and swimsuits with the remaining 10% to everything else. Which is nothing.

To be able to play music beyond measure, all it would take is your soul. The same legend goes for Robert Johnson, one of the most legendary bluesman in history. King of the Delta Blues, he is a bonafide legend. Me and the Devil Blues is all about him, from the start of his time with Virginia and the birth of his blues. GE: Good Ending

Feb 22, 2013

Story: I just loved this straight from the first few pages, where the main gets the taste smacked out of his mouth by a rogue tennis ball while playing voyeur on a distant third or so floor with some peeping specs. Comedic moments like these are present throughout, by means of slapstick, comedic dialogue or what have you but never consistent, as interspersed within the pages of this series is some truly heartwrenching moments, tearjerkers, heartwarming and it's a torrent of emotions. One chapter may leave you laughing, another may tug at your heart strings and convince you to read just one more chapter... See full review

Story: Brutal, gory, remorseless, violent. All part of the underage student killing glory. Student killing, you say? How could a government do such a thing? It's explained, and the series does a good amount of explaining about the program itself and the government that conducts it. Have to give it props for explaining the ones pulling the strings. Dat violence, but I'll tell ya this; it's not all about the violence. On the outside at least. A Drifting Life

Oct 1, 2012

A Drifting Life has been at my library for lord knows how long. Sitting there, amongst all the short volumes of more known works and volumes numbering in the teens. Picked it up when it finally dawned on me that it was on my to-read list and immediately started on it when I got home. What ensued wasn't a fast-paced tour-de-force or a high intensity rollercoaster or anything that encompassed speed or particularly excitement. What it was was history, life, the old way and a realistic view on a budding mangaka. This was the age of Tezuka, as the A-P description states. It was an old era, where rental book... It took me a minute to type the summary of this review: The fuck? You see it in the title: Abstract. This is some real- man, I can't even begin to explain it to you. You probably wouldn't get it. "2D panels translating into anal bleeding 3D", you say? "What else is there?" your peeble, feeble mind asks. God, it's so much more than that. This is a work of art that is so fucking insane and represents the juxtaposition of- that it's just-  factory of fucks, you wouldn't even appreciate it or understand it even if I tried to explain it. Hideout

May 12, 2012

It goes from dramatic reasoning to psycho lunacy and only gets better from there. From a man's good intentions of trying to reconcile with his wife to his intent to commit murder, it starts off a tad dreary and goes to hell as things take a turn for the creepy. It's an unpleasant read, but in a good sense. In the single volume that encompasses it, we get to know enough of the main to feel like he isn't just a cog in the machine to move the plot along. He has depth and his wife is given some padding out, who is simply more than a miffed miss. We know more about how they got there instead of just a... See full review

Hoozuki-san Chi no Aneki

Mar 2, 2012

Alternating between 4-Koma and the normal... non-4-Koma format, Hozuki-san Chi no Aneki is about a brother, Gorou, who lives with his sister, Haru, (Not related by blood; step siblings?), and has a sister complex. A huge sister complex. BIG. It's what drives most of the jokes, concerning him at least, and how the sister trolls him about it; with him ending up in compromising positions infront of his classmates and peers; him trying to prove his worth and manliness, the usual stuff. It has the requirements for a comedy about a brother/sister duo and it works. The short volume series does work in it's favor... See full review

Story: Straight up, I had some real fun with this. It's an apocalypse that isn't entirely brought about by humans, but by mother nature getting fed up with humans being the top dogs and opening up a can of whoop-ass. The real nitty-gritty of it is that the environment is changing and in turn, so does the ecosystem. The ecosystem in thos case doesn't bother with the large species but with the small. Rats, for instance, beasties of those size and even smaller. It almost feels fresh in that it isn't humans that are the worst enemy here but the species that lived in fear of us or those we crushed because we're... See full review

Story: Ai Kora, a heartwarming tale about a guy who loves parts. I don't just mean an ass-man or a titty fiend, this is a guy with class and expectations, specific taste and a gourmet palette. He wants a specific kind of bust, eyes, legs ass neck waist etc etc. Each part needs to be a specific size and shape and this form of fetish is aptly called "Parts love". *Review only goes up to chapter 49, the end of the Twilight of the Gods arc. Story: World leaders play mahjong with each other to settle disputes, debts, gamble and to decide the next Pope. That's the basic, bare bones plot, but it gets more ridiculous as it advances. By the time you hit Ragnarok, you think you've seen it all but Twilight of the Gods rears it's head and it just goes off into the ocean. It's silly, it's absurd and it's delightfully fun if you can get past how mad crazy this all is. It's not particularly deep nor should you expect that. Higurashi When They Cry: Atonement Arc

Nov 10, 2012

This one's kinda tough to review. It's a pie slice from the Grand Higurashi Pie that goes well with the other slices, even though they have different flavours. There is a hint of flavour of the other arcs but it still has it's own distinct flavour. So, pie. It's a late bloomer in the baking cycle, considering that it's in the mid teens of the series and being Kai, here meaning Answer. Answering questions from earlier on and providing it's own. Lets say you read one or two of the arcs preluding this, that doesn't mean you should dig your fingers into the squishy innards of this one from your half-baked... See full review

Story of Dat Ass: Alright, before I begin anything, let me draw your attention once again to dat ass. That right there is how you make a cover. You know it's a guy, but you have to admire an ass that fine. If the manga would keep up with such fine ass-ness then it would be perfect. Unfortunately, it does not. But the art makes me appreciate that this guy makes an amazing girl, and that this is surprisingly not an awkward boner fest despite fully knowing that it's a dude throughout. The point here is that it's a great cover and that you should totally judge a book by its cover. This perfectly sound and... See full review

Amagami: Love Goes On!

Sep 2, 2013

It's a sweet, adorable tale about the adorable Ai, swimmer and gal who trolls Main Guy in her arc. This is strictly for fans of her and for those who watched the show. It does her justice with some great art to boot. The quick story wouldn't appeal much to other people but if I remember correctly, it's faithful to the show and probably faithful with the length as well. I adored her and the show so this is right up my alley so once again, fans of the show and more specifically Ai, pick it up. Everybody else, watch the show instead of reading about Ai's arc. It'll be better that way and more filling.
