Story: I'm going to be writing this review in a manner that suits it and to make sure you know what I mean, here's some statistics from the first 100 chapters on two words: Rape: Used over 250 times. Fuck: Used over 250 times. You can't make this shit up. There's even a 10 rapes per second feature that shows up. And killing your mother and fucking your dad the day after, all in a song's work for DMC. Cinderella, it has all the makings of it except most of them are skewered and twisted, but not enough to make you forget where it's roots are. Aside from the completely roundabout ending that changes what you just read, it also alters the... "Fairy Godmother", who is more like the classical witch, complete with that awesome witch hat but minus the wart on the nose, green skin (Black and white) and all-around ugliness. At War on Halloween MM I truly don't know where to start with this one. It wasn't outstanding, but it also wasn't bad. Pretty good for a one volume work though, which is a plus. Has a good premise and deals with inmates saved from death, isolation and comfort within said isolation. And a deal with the devil, but that's what you get when some mysterious saviour gives you a choice of death or coming with them. So, good premise and it delivers. This one's kinda tough to review. It's a pie slice from the Grand Higurashi Pie that goes well with the other slices, even though they have different flavours. There is a hint of flavour of the other arcs but it still has it's own distinct flavour. So, pie. It's a late bloomer in the baking cycle, considering that it's in the mid teens of the series and being Kai, here meaning Answer. Answering questions from earlier on and providing it's own. October's Badass War on Halloween MM
Story: To be frank, this is a world of badass. Cards that summon monsters and shit, where if the monster gets injured, so does the summoner and none of that "punch monster, oooh! Summoner is bruised! And he's cut?!" kinda shit, this is where if a monster fucking rips the arm off of another monster, the summoner's arm gets fucking ripped off. Story: I will never look at spirals the same way again, and never did after reading this. Or snails. Or hospitals. Quite frankly, this is some disturbing shit. It doesn't simply create a shock scare or two, you see it gradually going to shit, the transformations of the spiral, the horror that is right there infront of you. It doesn't shirk on that front and that just makes it even more chilling.

Story: Brutal, gory, remorseless, violent. All part of the underage student killing glory. Student killing, you say? How could a government do such a thing? Story: Survival Horror, one of my favorite genres, and this one does it justice. It's a tale about an elementary school, like the one you went to, except they deliver bread to it. But one day, it gets sent to a wasteland devoid of life. And the kids, teachers and that delivery man, are stuck there. What ensues is the usual by human standards: panic, hysteria, denial and the usual, except for a twist or two that elevates the shock and disturbing factors. I truly adore this series. Started reading it when it was still ongoing, waiting for each chapter to be released, up to it's conclusion. It's a simple premise; a girl has to crossdress as a guy to pay off a debt to a host club and while it starts as a comedy with any hints of romance played for laughs, it later on delves more into romance as feelings become clear and hearts become known. A Drifting Life has been at my library for lord knows how long. Sitting there, amongst all the short volumes of more known works and volumes numbering in the teens. Picked it up when it finally dawned on me that it was on my to-read list and immediately started on it when I got home. What ensued wasn't a fast-paced tour-de-force or a high intensity rollercoaster or anything that encompassed speed or particularly excitement. I'll be honest, I laughed at this one. Might have been from some brain contagion corruption, the amount of fetishes it packs in in 20 pages or how completely eye fucking crazy it is. Most of his stuff is off the wall and has some crude sexual content that might scar the brain and some shitty art and this one has it's fair share of it, that and on par. There's no main character but it's snippits of other people and their fucked lives of getting the wrong room. It's perverse, it's twisted, it's Kago and it's quotable! It's decent enough, with the premise of a merciless beating and some recovery that makes the man who never looks someone in the eye unable to see anyone's eyes. It retains a bit of a creep factor with those eyeless faces but doesn't have a whole lot of suspense. I did like the aftermath of his hospital stay but the ending left me confused. As a one shot, it's worth a quick read.

It goes from dramatic reasoning to psycho lunacy and only gets better from there. From a man's good intentions of trying to reconcile with his wife to his intent to commit murder, it starts off a tad dreary and goes to hell as things take a turn for the creepy. It's an unpleasant read, but in a good sense. In the single volume that encompasses it, we get to know enough of the main to feel like he isn't just a cog in the machine to move the plot along. Alternating between 4-Koma and the normal... non-4-Koma format, Hozuki-san Chi no Aneki is about a brother, Gorou, who lives with his sister, Haru, (Not related by blood; step siblings?), and has a sister complex. A huge sister complex. BIG. It's what drives most of the jokes, concerning him at least, and how the sister trolls him about it; with him ending up in compromising positions infront of his classmates and peers; him trying to prove his worth and manliness, the usual stuff. *Review only goes up to chapter 49, the end of the Twilight of the Gods arc. Story: World leaders play mahjong with each other to settle disputes, debts, gamble and to decide the next Pope. That's the basic, bare bones plot, but it gets more ridiculous as it advances. By the time you hit Ragnarok, you think you've seen it all but Twilight of the Gods rears it's head and it just goes off into the ocean. It's silly, it's absurd and it's delightfully fun if you can get past how mad crazy this all is. It's not particularly deep nor should you expect that. The premise just begs for some absurd crap to happen and the magic shrooms or plants did their work. It's completely bonkers in it's premise and downright ridiculous as it progresses to the sexual content. Absolute lunacy. It's ugly, crazy and a disturbing ending to launch the last firecracker. Santa doing fly-by's had me sold, swarming people with presents they don't want. It's a one shot so five minutes for the fast readers and not much lost for some whacked-out gains.

When I go for a horror manga that deals with survival, I expect:

1. Suspense

2. A satisfying conclusion

3. Violence and blood (Optional but appreciated, not a dealbreaker)

I for one, am a sucker for suspense. If there's an inkling of it, I'm in and am probably all caught up in it while others are shaking their heads. This has done it for me in the suspense department and it had enough to make me want to continue on in one sitting. When someone says Rumiko Takahashi, you may think of Ranma 1/2 or Inuyasha. But instead you should think of her romantic/comedy masterpiece Maison Ikkoku. It's one because of the story it tells, the characters that inhabit it and the feelings that live in them. The story is simple and keeps it's feet planted firmly in reality; real life. It feels real, the events feel real, the emotions feel real, everything feels real and that's the beauty of it. Stop reading this and go read/watch -manga/anime being reviewed-".
