Maken-ki!

Jan 25, 2012

Story: Fun fact: 7/13 characters in the OP are busty, 2/13 are guys. A brief synopsis on the plot (As it's not up yet): A school with 2/3 of the population having large boobs, 1/3 having decent sized boobs and Himegami is turned into a co-ed school. This lucky bastard/nice guy Takeru goes there and meets up with his childhood friend, big breasted VP. He soon meets up with another big breasted girl who made some sort of childhood promise-of course it's marrage, all of them are in harems. No spoiler's here.

Oh, and there's these Maken things, Takeru doesn't really have one to start with but he... See full review

Chainsaw Maid

Nov 12, 2011

Story: Not the table, not on the table, not on the- aww.... and that's how it truly starts, after the near striptease. Obviously this is high on plot, and the title only goes to further it, and obviously everything after the striptease is a load of shit, which this would be if it weren't so unintentionally hilarious. The violence is righteously over the top, senseless and chainsaw-fueled, for extreme gore and extremely questionable fun. The premise is what it is; Chainsaw Maid, and you shouldn't expect much else from that. Animation: A whole new definition of puking your guts out, to hilarious results... See full review

Pussycat

Nov 10, 2011

Story: There's this kitten, right, and she walks down the street, swaying them hips and swaggering and all that. But then a wolf appears from behind a corner, oogling her up and eating her in his mind, with a eyebrow raised at the viewers, anticipating the raeping that's to occur. But the kitten meets up with a pig, who screams rapist- You know where this is going, but the ending is so hilarious in it's violent glory. The plot is nothing but a ruse to get some animals to rumble over a caged female, with the moral lesson of drugging drinks to get them into your chambers. A story of this mature calibur... Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts 2

Nov 7, 2011

Story: Baka to Test was never big on plot, and the second season is no different. Starting off with a pair of beach episodes and a festival, then moving to an onsen that begins to feature some of the Shoukanjuu, and finally moving back to the school setting for... stuff. Do I care that the plot isn't particularly good or memorable? Hell no! I just care about the comedy and events that lead up to comedy irregardless of actual plot or depth and it delivers the comedy from the first season in spades, mileage may vary. The same jokes get reused here and I still found them enjoyable. It's easy to see how... See full review

School City Valanoir

Oct 28, 2011

Story: There's this girl, and she goes to a new school of fighting. She gets into a fight with one of the most powerful gals in the school and kicks her ass despite having no talent. She then wins an eating contest of riceballs (?) and she and the one whose ass she kicked end up in a grotto. All that crap isn't spoiling anything and it's purely generic, grade A crap. The plot's existant for the first half but is tossed aside in the second with a horrid ending. With subs, the plot makes no sense. Without subs, it makes a bit more sense but still crap. It was so bad the translators couldn't even bother... See full review

There's this crystal, right, and it turns into a large shield. With guns. Or I think it was a crystal, as these mecha are blinged up with gold plating and ruby sapphire emeralds galore. And the giant golden blade that turns the school into a rainbow beam blasting flying ship? That can buy North America. All the bling is pretty much all the good in this. Relatively good, as that gun shield thing was pretty cool. It's essentially crap, with kids manning four or so bots transforming multiple times, kicking gems that can end poverty, punching jewels, some sort of flying... stump thing in space. It's a trailer... See full review

Is this a Zombie? OVA

Oct 13, 2011

Story/Fanservice: After the Highschool of the Dead OVA, I expected that 95% of comedy(/ecchi) OVA's are fanservice riddled boob fests of fanboobs. With some comedic hijinks thrown in. And bouncing. What does that have to do with this OVA? Everything. It has boobs, comedy, bouncing, adorability, Yuu and fanservice for the ladies. Usually it's half and half but this is like third and thirds. Or something. One's a festival that gets ludicrously hilarious after the prize is announced and gets more twisted, another is about a scroll and more hilarity and the last one is a game of.... cards? Like how someone... See full review

Story: Men getting abused by their wives by sitting on them, sticking them in their cleavage, kicking them, smacking their ass with brooms and all sorts of crap for 2 minutes. Yay? Animation: Looks like scribbles. Marker scribbles. It remains consistently ugly for a 60s animated short. Sound: Just like the animation, it's consistent. Absolute crap and annoying, but consistently ass. Characters: Ha! Men get abused and their wives who abuse them. The cast right there. Overall: Absolute garbage. By the time you finish this, you could be halfway through that dribble. And that two minutes can be better spent... See full review

Afro-ken

Sep 21, 2011

Story: Um.... what? There's this dog, right? He has a 'fro. And he's called Afro-Ken, as in "afro dog". And there are these other dogs, they have names like that or something. And there are minute segments of Afro-ken being food, trees or something that changes his 'fro. Yup. That's about it. It's just that and has pretty much no plot whatsoever. I just gave it a point for there being an interview for some reason. Animation: I've seen worse. Lot worse at the time of it's watching. The dogs were varied and the 'fros always get some points from me. It will never win any points for having good... See full review

For the Popee the Performer MM, where Funny Pets made everything look better two fold minimum. Story: In Russia, you get thrown in jail for three years for missing a day of work. Capitalism or something. Damn pigs. And for being a mafia boss. I learned that on some comments for the show but otherwise wouldn't have known. What does that have to do with anything? It's the basis of the plot I guess; two rabbits in jail. With a tranny chick, a frog that eats him and some assorted guards in doors that provide the basis of the jokes and episodic plot stuff for the first third. It's not that hard to explain and... Funny Pets 2

Story: How the hell did this shit get a second season? The first was supposedly kid-friendly but turned out to be a violent sadistic shitfest but sources tell me that this was on some late night porn show. Or a dirty, innuendo, sleazy boob fest that caters to the demented and criminal-minded. Origin aside, it's the same as before but with more violence, more sexual content, more creepy ass Moon and more retarded hijinks. A few examples as the review goes on but one involves a frog, musical sperm or offspring from some offscreen Frog/MP3 player action. And that first episode. Oh god. Fucking nightmares... Story: Minute bites of stand-alone episodes with 2/3 being sadistic black comedy. Nothing deep in the minute storyline but all have more or less a conclusion in the minute lives of whatever is going on. And when I say sadistic, I also mean twisted and funny if you're into killing and laughing at other people's expense with violence. Lots of violence. Animation: From the creator of Acid Trip: The Anime and in the same world, lovingly called Cat Soup, the animation looks the same minus the completely messed-in-the-head events. It's simple in it's style but kinda charming; blood aplenty as bodies go... See full review

Popee the Performer

First off, a shout out to the group I did this with, I couldn't have made it through without y'all! And to LinkSword, who brought us into this mess. Story: At first, two freaks at a carnival (Circus) nobody goes to. They never had customers or visitors because of a psycho bunny and a dog who never reveals his face. Apart from the shit premise, it's episodic. But that doesn't mean each stand-alone episode is good or can neglect story for laughs. Or whatever episodic anime does, this does it bad. Rats gnawing on your nuts bad. You will lose braincells at the macabre, morbid and sadism that runs rampant in... See full review

Story: This didn't even need a story. If it just had mecha, explosions, ham and manliness with a barebones plot to push all that forward, then it would have been awesome. But you get a plot to go with your larger-than-life mecha and overblown speeches. The plot starts off simple and could have simply ended at 12 episodes in but with the time-skip at that half-way mark, you're getting another story that could have been a second season. And that story, is made of awesome once it picks up.

It's not simply the "fight for freedom" that does it but how as it continues, it gets bigger... See full review

Disclaimer: Swearing aplenty but completely warranted for the Moon alone. And I've learned that the harlot's name is Funny. Yeah.... She's still a ho. Story: At the start of every god-forsaken episode, the Sun and Moon crash land on some planet and move in with a whore. It's shown after a creepy full moon opens it's mouth and spaceships pour out. The Moon, probably the driver is most-likely high or drunk or both and gets them both stranded. Basically it's nonsense, hardly important. Violence Jack 2: Evil Town

Aug 18, 2011

Story: I thought this was Hell Bomber, or Harem Bomber. Harlem- whatever. Not Evil Town, which is what the location is called and not just the OVA. It's stupid indeed but it's quite accurate. The synopsis gives a surprisingly lengthy description of the anime but to sum it up: Violence Jack is freed, protects group C and kills a lot of people. That's about it apart from more violence and rape, but it's to be expected from something called Violence Jack 2: Evil Town. A subpar story is too good for this midnight showcase. You shouldn't even expect anything shallow from the story. It would have been simple... See full review

Find Your Anime Buddy Presents: Ping Pong Club; A Tale of Horror, Some Ping Pong and Ass Disclaimer: Shit is a common word used to describe things that come out of a thing's ass that isn't limited to ping pong balls. It's also used to describe just about anything in this wretched show of debauchery and senseless events. With man asses.

Story: I'll be frank. It's like someone took a shit and called it Shit, but the censors wouldn't allow a show called that so they instead called it Ping Pong Club. I had expectations for this, moderate, middle of the road but off to the crappy side; decent... See full review

Yosuga no Sora: In Solitude, Where We Are Least Alone

Jul 23, 2011

Story: Curse my unfortunate soul for expecting something like Amagami SS (Roughly the same format), but I didn't get my floating in a forest like in the OP, or much floating at all. That's a big problem right there as the OP decieved me. Pushing that minor problem aside, it felt that things were moving a bit too quickly and that I couldn't really get a heartfelt emotional feel about the relationships. I like my romance stuff to make me feel the love, to make me care. While I did feel notes of sadness and happiness here and there, it wasn't enough to make it a song of emotions.

When it... See full review

C: The Money of Soul and Possibility Control

Jul 20, 2011

Story: When I first read the premise of it, I didn't know what to expect and after the first episode, even less on what what would come next.  After watching the last episode, I don't know what to think of it. On one hand, it's a tale of a man and his scantily-clad asset (What he uses to fight in the District) kicking butt while using vast amounts of black cash and on the other hand, it's so much more with what's at stake in the Financial District. The risk behind it all and the effects of each battle add an extra dimension than mere battles of property damage. It's not entirely a predictable... See full review

Spice and Wolf

May 27, 2011

The premise doesn't do it much justice, as it sounds dull. A travelling merchant and a wolf deity (A goddess of the harvest) travelling up north, engaging in serious business and economics at a slow-pace. As boring as it may sound, it turns the economics into something compelling and interesting, or at least I saw it that way. This definitely depends on what you find fun, as even though it explains the economics and logic of coinage and currency, this isn't everybody's cup of tea. Economics is half of the anime while the other half is the banter and dialogue between Horo and Lawrence. Fortunately, it's... See full review

Cat Soup

May 27, 2011

Cat Soup can be summed up as "What the *%@$". The art is odd-ball and bizzaro, there's no dialogue, no script, hardly any developed characters (Strange ones at that) and that's not even touching the "plot". The point of Cat Soup isn't about the plot but the journey; the places you will go and the people you'll meet, as messed up and crazy as they are. There's the elephant made of water, the pig that is cruelly taken apart (It gets worse), the man with the mask and spiked speedo and everything else. To mention it all would ruin the surprise and those are just the screenshots. I don't... See full review

Hetalia: World Series

May 10, 2011

I can't tell you how I found Hetalia but it was worth finding. Axis Powers was pretty good and World Series continues the trend of history overshadowed by comedy between the Axis and Allies and everybody inbetween. If you liked the former, there's more of the same stuff to make you enjoy this one. Never liked it? Scram. Never watched it? Start with either one. The plot boils down to snippits of history, historical events and whatnot portrayed with cuteness, cats and bishounen. Loads of bishounen. But that's for latter sections. The story is whatever it wishes to focus on. Either being shipwrecked, the... See full review

You're watching this because you watched Highschool of the Dead and want something else by that name. You know that HotD is senseless, shameless fanservice with jiggling, bouncing and large, ginormous, back-breaking boobs. And, you know, zombies with violence. With boobs. And you, the reader, know that since it's an OVA, it lacks anything sensible or redeeming. But it has all of the above, minus the violence. Fractale

I expected something in the vibe of Spice and Wolf: two people (More or less people) travelling together with banter and lots of talking through beautiful locals sans the logic-defying enjoyable economics with peaceful stuff that may appear to be boring but is really engrossing in some strange way. Fractale isn't entirely that but it does have beautiful scenery and a beginning mostly filled with wonder and peace and to me, a wish to explore it all. When They Cry: Kai

Apr 20, 2011

For all the unanswered questions you get by the time you finish the first season, you wonder if the second will answer them all. The answer is no, but would there have been enough time to? In it's defense, it answers quite a bit while providing backstory and motive, as well as what's behind it all. It answers the main question and a few others while providing it's own and answering them in turn. It is Higurashi, so more questions are to be expected. The arcs still retain most of the comedic moments (Still hit or miss) of the first season but lack the blood and violence we've seen before. Not to say that... See full review

Rio: Rainbow Gate!

Apr 19, 2011

I finished Rio: Rainbow Gate! for April's Monthly Marathon, when otherwise I wouldn't have watched it unless I wanted something sleazy, perverted and filled with fanservice with no redeeming value. I had my pride on the line after saying I would watch this and I question if it was worth it. I admit that I got some enjoyment out of it, guilty enjoyment but overall it was crap. I guess I should start with the story, so here goes: Rio needs to get 13 gate cards to become the MVCD, Most Valuble Casino Dealer. Smash boom pow, there you go. That's essentially it. The title translates to Star Driver: Takuto of the Radiance, so right off the bat you know you're in for something camp and silly. If you can bypass that, then you can't avoid the first episode's name, Galactic Pretty Boy. You can't make this stuff up. And then Takuto goes on about he's going to lead a fabulous school life and we're not even at the five minute mark. It gets worse (Or better, but more camp) but that lies in the "charm" of this farce. Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts OVA

Apr 4, 2011

Baka to Test; it may be stupid but it's at the point of being stupidly fun without moving into annoying and this OVA is no different. As the synopsis states, it's an adaptation of the Festival arc in the manga. It's recommended that one watches the first season before watching the OVA as to not miss out on some of the references to events seen in the first season. You don't have to, as this is simple minded fun and can be enjoyed without knowing what happened before (And that the first season was pretty episodic at times). I don't know the first rule of Mahjong nor how you score. The only thing I do know is that it might have originated in China and that it involves tiles and ham. That didn't prevent me from enjoying an OVA based around it. Mudazumo Naki Kaikaku doesn't teach you how to play but it doesn't need that crap and neither do you. This is all about the ACTION. All about the raw EMOTION and BADASSERY that mahjong has to offer! THIS represents the serious business side of Mahjong in the political world! For here... nothing stops you from playing mahjong. It blows the original series and the other OVA and everything else that deals with School Days out of the water, shoots it up, blows it up, shanks it, beheads it and goes on a parade with the remains. It's that ingenius.

The story is pure gold. A guy running around with women chasing his bones? Genius! Cut and print! We'll make millions! They want to give him their chocolate and knowing who he is, they'll give him a lot more than that, believe you me. the story is brilliant in it's... See full review
