Wolf Children

Mar 3, 2013

I wasn't really sure what exactly to expect when I heard of this anime. A mother taking care of werewolf children? Sounded pretty damn silly to me, but I gotta say I was surprised in a good way with this film. This movie comes to us from the director of works such as Summer wars and Girl Who Leapt through time, so I had somewhat high expectations and this movie doesn't disappoint.  Story- The story centres around Hana a young women who happens to fall in love with a wolf who can somehow turn into a human and procreate with humans. Now this is where your suspension of disbelief comes in, at first... See full review

Windy Tales

Apr 2, 2013

Windy Tales is a slice of life series. A REAL slice of life series, as in it's actually realistic things that happen to the characters. The artsyle is very strange and it will put off many people, but those that are willing to give this title a chance will be rewarded. Story- First of all, this is an actual slice of life show, so don't expect the characters to be super quirky and and to have all this interesting well timed dialogue. This is a very realistic show and realistic things happen. If a dad facing a middle age crisis goes out and buys a motorcycle he will crash the bike and break his leg... See full review

Usagi-chan de Cue!!

Mar 10, 2013

This is a short ecchi OVA about a bunny girl named Mimika who just happens to fall into a harem situation with our main character Haru. Theres nudity and fanservice galore and also a few fights here and there. Story- So the story starts off with Inaba, a rough delinquent girl who happens to be fighting on the roof (yes he have some very smart characters here), while she manages to defeat her opponent she falls off the roof in order to save this rabbit and somehow ends up "merging" with it... yeah this is never properly explained. So now Inaba shares her body with the rabbit called Mimika... See full review

Upotte!!

May 6, 2012

After all my years of anime watching I've found one anime that rises above the rest and shines brightly even in a season with such titles such as Fate/Zero, Lupin III: A woman named Fujiko, Eureka AO and Sakamichi no Apollon. This anime is such a unique telling of a story that is so essential the anime universe, that it will surely  praised and remembered for generations to come. Indeed this anime will revolutionize the anime industry and become the quintessential anime, that every other anime is compared to. I've watched almost over 1000 titles of anime and none compares to this anime. This is the... See full review

Tsuritama

Jun 28, 2012

The first episode of this anime set my expectations of this anime way too high. I was really amazed at the animation, vibrant colors and detailed backrounds of this anime. It was like nothing I had seen before and so it really effected my viewing experience of this. Maybe if I just expected a typical bishie, fanservicy anime with no real plot ,my score would have been higher, but yeah what came after this was just a complete mess. *spoilers ahead* Story- The story is about these four guys who fish... yeah >_> Oh and one of them is an alien and his ancestor is in the sea and causing ships to steer... Tokyo Tribe 2

Jul 9, 2012

Okay so to start this anime is not for everyone... and by not for everyone I mean thats probably only going to appeal to a select few individuals which include myself. So this anime is pretty much about the Yakuza life. So don't expect any highschool girls with mini skirts and moe bullshit. The OST conists mostly of rap music and its got that "urban" feeling to it that you can also find in some other anime like Michiko to Hatchin and Samurai Champloo. Story- So the story primarity focuses on the two characters Mera and Kai. its pretty much a revenge tale and also somewhat a tale of redemption... See full review

The Skull Man

May 12, 2012

I was really surpised there wasn't already a review for this, considering the studio that made it and the premise for the show. It kind of feels like what Darker than Black might have been if it took a more subtle and darker(pun intended) tone... well until the end. In a way I guess the ending was fitting for this series, but it also felt a little too silly/ideal Story- The story is mystery at heart, but there is a lot of great action and good char development that you can expect from a Bones series. The main premise is a reporter named Hayato is investigation a series of murders that seem to all connect... See full review

The Garden of Words

May 31, 2013

I've been looking forward to Garden of Wal- I mean Words for quite some time now. By the now quite famous Makoto Shinkai and his studio CoMix Wave. I've always enjoyed the visual aspect of his films and this certainly doesn't disappoint. However it is quite lacking in other departments. Story- To sum it up shortly the story is about the relationship between a younger boy and an older women. While it is somewhat different from the average romance drama, it still has it's problems. If anything I think the story suffers most from the movies rather short run time. The film is only about 46 minutes long... See full review

The Dog of Flanders Movie

May 5, 2012

This movie is very depressing, I would say on the same level as Grave of the fireflies, if not more so. So if you don't want to be depressed and potentially cry buckets I highly suggest avoiding this. So does this movie have any worth aside from being an emotional tear jerker? Honestly, not much... its very apparant that the movie is trying to elicit a specific reaction from you and without that its just a cliche sad story, with some light religious themes thrown in. *Spoilers Ahead* Story- So theres a kid and his parents died... aww thats already pretty sad right? Wrong! It gets even worse and we... See full review

The Dagger of Kamui

Jun 20, 2012

Being a fan of the good old hack n' slash anime ninja movies, I had to check this title out. I wasn't really expecting, much I didn't really get all that much either. Story- Okay so the story is about this guy named Jiro and he is framed for killing his own parents. Well except he did kill his own father, but he didn't realize it was his father. So he vows to take revenge on the one responsible, a monk looking dude by the name of Tenkai. So theres Iga and Koga ninja clans in this (surprise surprise) and they're duking it out and what not, but our boy Jiro is a lone ninja and he has a special dagger (guess... See full review

Souten Kouro

Nov 18, 2012

*WARNING* This anime contains exessive amounts of violence and blood, if you cannot stand those kinds of things, this anime is defintely not for you. Also this anime is very heavy on manliness. As such sits near the top of a short list of anime that I would consider Manime or manly anime. This usually means things such as manly admiration, manly tears and ofcourse minimal to nonexistent female presence. Okay now to the review. Story- Souten Kouro or "Beyond the Heavens" has quite a unique setting in being set in China during the Han Dynasty and being looesely based on the events of... See full review

Sin: The Movie

May 13, 2013

I came into to this with very very low, expectations, mostly because of some screenshots I had seen with some of the worst cg in anime I had seen and considering this was made in the later 90's I can't blame them that much. Aside from the cg though I was actually pretty pleased with this anime.  Story- The story takes place in a futuristic cyberpunk setting and follows the exploits of HardCORPS (great name btw), an elite police force tasked with the job to eliminate the crime in the city, most notably the fucking zombie mutant things running around murdering and converting people into their... Shinkai no Kantai: Submarine 707

Feb 20, 2013

So we got a good ol' sci-fi 90's OVA's with minimal plot and fairly forgettable action and characters produced by Teoi animation and... J.C Staff? Don't they usually only do crappy schoom romcoms? well apparantly they did some crappy sci-fi OVA's as well and one of them is this little gem? Well not really, I'm sure all 9 (currently) other people whov'e actually seen this will agree that there was a reason it has been forgotten. Story- Now there isn't anything inherently bad about this, its just that it isn't at all memorable. So the story focuses on the crew of this submarine. They're brought to... See full review

Sci-fi Harry

Aug 31, 2012

So I felt like checking out something different and this seemed like a good choice to me. Something kind of dark and fairly serious with some decent characters. Also an anime that didn't take place in Japan for once, was pretty refreshing. Story- So the story centres around our main character an American highschool student named Harry. Harry gets bullied a lot in school, because hes quiet and weird/awkward. One day however he finds out he has psychic powers and the story progresses and escalates from there. If there is a dub in your own language I suggest you watch that, because this anime has... See full review

Some anime are just so manly that they no longer can be considered mere anime. They fall into the rare niche genre of MANIME!. Anime for men! Yes this anime is very manly! Its so manly infact I cried manly tears several times during my time watching this. If anything I'd say it was Silver Fang Gin, but instead of dogs... it actually had people and was much more realistic... but thats not saying much considering how realistic Silver Fang was >_> Story- The story... is very contrived, prepare to suspend you disbelief if you plan on watching this anime lol. Apr 29, 2012

Story- Typical good guys(Gradians) v.s evil colony/hive mind type aliens(Bacterians). Some decent twists here and there, but nothing noteworthy. This series is based off the Gradius and Salamander game series. Which are oldschool 80's schoot em' ups. Animation- Actually pretty decent. Lots of great actions scenes with many ships, lasers and explosions. and the boss battles were particularly well animated. The characters looked pretty standard for 80's animes though and the ship designs were pretty boring too. The bosses looked badass though, especially the last one. Sound-The only memorable themes are... See full review

Well this is a strange little OVA... well not very little considering its 12 episodes, which is the length of a regular TV series nowadays, Just goes to show how things have changed I guess. Anyway this is pretty much an ecchi romcom, much like the ecchi romcoms of modern anime, except it was made in the 90's which means its better right? Well not really =/ Story- So the story follows the life of a College reject and country boy named Touma Inaba, who has his dreams of getting into a good university crushed when he fails his entrance exams and has to enter a cram school. Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas - Meiou Shinwa

Aug 28, 2012

Now warning in advanced, I was a pretty big Saint Seiya (or as they called it here, Knights of the Zodiac) fan back when it was airing in Canada. It was like the dream anime for a kid, along with stuff like DBZ. So when this OVA started airing I was immedietly interested and began watching, if for nothing atleast nostalgic purposes. I was pleasently surprised with this prequel. Story- So this OVA is based on a manga and is actually the prequel for the original Saint Seiya series. The main story is pretty much a good v.s evil tale and they make it all the more easier to identify who is evil and who... See full review

Roujin Z

May 8, 2012

This anime is one of those rare gems that you find occasionally, that once you start you know has the potential to be very good. Its even more fulfiling to find out by the end of one of these that your expectations have not only been met, but exceeded. With a unique premise and a definite direction this is by far one of the best stand-alone OVA's I've ever seen. Also I'd like to note that this feels much more like a movie than an OVA and rightfully so considering the running time of about 1h20m. Story- So your probably wondering what could be so unique and interesting about this anime that sets it apart... See full review

Redline

Mar 3, 2012

Story- Okay so Redline doesn't have the best story ever, but some of the sub-plots are somewhat interesting, but unfortunanatly are kind of underdeveloped. Like who was the dude with the pink car pimping two girls at once? We can only assume a role-model for JP and the whole thing with Funky boy and the Robo world government... Yeah this anime didn't really need such a convoluted plot a nice simple race would have been fine, but I don't think it really takes anything away from the show. Maybe setting it up for more movies/OVAs in the future for explanation =/ unlikely but possible Animation- This is... See full review

PSYCHO-PASS

Mar 27, 2013

Fair warning, like most reviews in existence my review is quite biased and I was influeced by the "hype" factor concerning this particular anime. Quite a few factors influenced my hype for this title including the production studio (Production I.G), the setting (futuristic cyberpunk) and the writer (Mr. Urobutcher himself). Pretty much what I was expecting was Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex season 3, with awesome plot twists. What I got... wasn't completely unexpected, but at the same time I couldn't help but feel disappointed with it.  Story- As I mentioned before the... See full review

Mar 8, 2013

So this is the sequel to Lingire warrior Papillon Rose, which was a one episode OVA and I guess at some point someone thought they should make this into a 6 episode OVA... both of these titles are ofcourse awful.  Story- So this story takes place 1 year after the events of the first OVA and somehow the main characters have all lost their memories. So now Tsubomi (Papillon Rose) must band her previous allies together to fight the evil minions of Night Queen and her henchwomen monster of the week style. There are some pretty crappy plot twists later on and aside from that it's very predictable and very... See full review

Well being the lazy individual that I am I didn't want to watch all 26 episodes of Panzer Wolrd Galient, instead I decieded to settle for this OVA series that covers the series in 2, 1 hour OVAs.... seems legit. The 3rd OVA is a special side story... but not really. Story- So the stroy is that theres this kid named Jojo(hehe) who has to save the kingdom from this bad guy named Mardar. Theres these awesome centaur themed mechs, but the main character uses a more robotic/knight looking one to my disapointment. So yeah Its prety much just Jojo trying to save his kingdom with some minimal plot twists... See full review

Well there are flashbacks of his school life, but yeah this romance is about a young guy (try to guess his age lol) and a girl that hes liked since junior high. He also works as a waiter and has two friends and a homolust boss... but thats not really significant. The end is also a bit of a twist, whether in a good or bad way is up to you to decide. Mar 10, 2013

I'll try to keep my review short, because this is only about a 40 min OVA, but basically its a good old 80's sci-fi OVA without all that much context behind it. Story and Characters- So the story focuses on this kid named Kouji who just happens to find  this military mecha suit prototype called Madox-01. He somehow finds himself piloting this thing, but at the same time needs to rendezvous with a girl he likes. So he races against the clock to meet up this girl while trying to avoid the military which is trying to reclaim the suit with their own suit (well I guess its more of an Exo-skeleton armor... Yeah the animation is slightly better and the colours are more vibrant but its all in vain due to the terrible loli fanservice. Honestly I don't think anyone can watch this anime without feeling like a pedophile. Well... this I'm not really sure what to say about this 5 episode OVA called Kizuoibito (Wounded Man). Pretty much its Kazuo Koike worst anime adaption. Its not as interesting or visually appealing as Crying Freeman, nor is it as gut wrenchingly hilarious (if you have a weird sense of humor like me) as Madbull 34. Well I guess a part of that has to do with the fact that its his earliest OVA dating back to 1985.  Story- So the story follows the main character Keiske who is trying to get revenge for his dead highschool sweet heart.
