Oh, Tegami Bachi... I was actually first introduced to this anime by my brother, who had bought the first volume of the manga and told me to read it. Honestly, when I first read the description, I was like, "People who deliver letters and fight giant robot bugs... Am I getting this right?" Now, I am so happy that I didn't put the manga down right then. This anime was actually very well done, despite the limited setting it was given. I'm actually surprised that this anime isn't more well-known. It was one of the best that I have seen in a long, long time.
The story itself was very good and unique, which I like. It may seem strange and boring at first, but it definately picks up if you give it a chance. The only problem I have with it is the amount of fillers. Honestly, most of this show is made up of fillers, and after a while, I found myself saying, "Okay, can we just get on with it?" But, despite this, they somehow managed to place comedy in the secret dark undertone this anime has. The whole thing wasn't meant to be a comedy, of course, but they still ended up getting out a few laughs from me, and a few tears, too. Nothing really makes me cry, but I found myself tearing up a couple times when watching this. Excellently done.
Even though this anime takes place in the dark land of AmberGround, I found that the visuals were stunning. The use of colors on th elimited palette was amazing. Props to the art/animation team that worked on this. I also enjoyed seeing the little star-thingies whenever a Gaichuu was defeated.
This part was probably just me, but I loved the background music they had when we were looking at people's memories. I felt that either it fit really well into what we were focusing on or I just overall loved it.
This is where I have the most complaints. But first, a note: Despite everybody hating how often Lag ended up crying, I actually enjoyed it. It shows that he really does care about people, and it makes him look really cute. However, that said, I don't like how he got into everybody's business all of the time. Sure, we wouldn't have a show if he didn't, but why not, instead of creating fillers where he does this, actually have episodes where we can focus on the main storyline and have Lag use his ability for better purposes? Lag aside, though, Niche is the one that ended up bothering me the most. Don't get me wrong, I ADORE her, and I would love to have her as my dingo, but I found her to be a little... Mary-Sueish. Of course, she is ignorant of how things really work and about what love is, but... She's just so overpowered! *What I'm about to type may count as a spoiler, but I don't think so because you learn this withing the episode right after you meet her* I understand that she's the Child of Maka, but... Wow. She can cut through steel, it appears that she has no weaknesses, her hair has no limit... I love her to death, but I just wish that they had brought down her power level just a bit. Everyone else to me was fine (especially Gauche and Zazie ~ <3).
Overall, Tegami Bachi is excellent, and I recommed it to everyone. Sure, it has a couple things you may not like and a LOT of fillers, but if you can get past that, I think you'll find that it's really great.
