Going into this anime, I was expecting very much to come out of it, due to the creative storyline that we haven't seen before and the unique characters that we first encountered. Coming out, I was upset that it didn't quite get as high as I wanted. Don't get me wrong, this was a beautifully done anime, but there were quite a few plotholes that left me wondering why certain things happened the way they did.
There are a few plotholes in this anime that I find... upsetting. For example, *possible spoiler* in one episode, Merry lets out what Yumeji called an "ultimate move". Did we ever see this again? Nope. It just simply never happened again. Without an explanation on things like this, it was just like, "...why is this happening...?" *possible spoiler end* Also, I don't recall if we ever see the main bad guy. That was a bit disappointing, because I wanted to see exactly who he was and what he looked like, not some vauge description from John Doe (who, by the way, didn't appear much often, to my dismay).
There are many things I liked about this anime, however, the details being one of them. I enjoyed how, for each muma, they had a different eye pattern, so you could tell who was talking and who was not. I also thought that the details put into each daydream was pretty good, especially the daydream with Yumeji's first encounter with John Doe, as with the tuna cans and the random fish bones. The different muma themselves were also creative, both appearance-wise and personality-wise.
There were no characters that really bothered me in this anime. One characters I really liked was Mystletainn. I found her to be a strong enemy, both strong and a bit crazy, which are good things to put into a villain. Some characters, though, didn't really make as many appearences as I had hoped thay would. For example, Pharos Heracles, the main antagonist, didn't even appear once! How could you even do that?! A person who is suppost to be very powerful and is the leader of an organization like this should bother to show up once in a while.
The overall concept of this anime is unique and creative, earning it a high score in my book. While they left some things hanging, I feel that mostly anyone will enjoy Yumekui Merry and some of its concepts of life and dreams.
