Makoto puts very little emphasis on the character design.He`s rather using the highly detailed background to set the mood and transmit a certain emotion.You should also watch The place promised in our early days and, my personal favourite in terms of animation (which is breathtaking), 5 centimeters per second.Considering he draws every single frame by himself, with no help what so ever it`s unreal how good the animation is.However...don`t expect highly detailed character design, he likes too keep them undeveloped
