Eh... I thought Cat and Snake arcs in Bake were way worse than this. I mean rape snake is rape, gang-rape op is gang-rape op (cat).
She's not a whore D:
I don't see how content subject impacts writing.
I have to be honest if I were to rate the genres from most relevant to least I'd put Romance near the bottom. Its not that its bad (well the cat and snake stuff kinda is and kanbaru yuri was lolnotgonnahappen) its just I like my Crab waifu violent and witty not dere-dere. While ep 12 was awesome (shitty hitagi > everything else still) I much prefer the Nise direction of making her near pyschotic. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'd prefer a yangire version, but its also not an unpleasant idea either.
Ya I thought Arararagi was totally cool about that kinda stuff, brushing off loli advances and kanbaru (till SHE raped HIM). Snail stuff is just um... well you can't just kill a staple of the show D:
Don't see how, I drop lots of shows in same or less amount of time.
Oh yes the romance stuff.
Now I don't have an answer for if Bake/Nise are harem, it really depends on how you define it. Gender ratio? Most definetly. Love interests? Maybe.
In a "liberal defintition" I'd argue that yes it is a harem show but in both Nise and Bake. Hitagi, Snake, Cat. I don't think you can say Kanbaru is and if you do based on what I'd consider just part of the humour of the show there's examples in both Bake and Nise. I don't think Snail is but I'm considering it from a romantic edge, if you meant harem in the more ecchi way sure include her but again, Bake AND Nise, so no "change" has happened.
In a "conservative definition" I'd say its not a harem, or at least its a harem that resovled itselft before it could truely form. Araragi rejects Cat and doesn't consider Snail (pedo looks in Bake aside) and teases the other two for lulz. So really its a monogomous pair from ep 5, which I assume is what you mean by "normal".
So I say its a harem as much as Bake was a harem, no matter which way you answer if Bake was or not.
Utena was mindfuck yuri xD animation flip flopped between good and bad and the only char I really liked was Utena but she's awesome. I'm not watching the TV show though as Utena was already on the edge of "quasi-yuri" (Utena really seems to like Red Sephiroth) and Stray Cat told me the TV ver is way more het. Also not sure if its 4 or 4.5 so that will likely change.
While I agree its more aggressive I don't really agree its more sexual.
First I don't think Monkey/Snail are really much different if at all compard to their role in Bakemono, just their scenes were more "animated" (pun intended). Also not going to touch on the sisters as they don't have a bake comparable and I didn't think their parts had much ecchi content (relative to the series) anyway.
The big issue from your post I got was Nadeko and really I see the change as a very welcome one. The first thing is well.....her arc in Bake was VERY sexual and VERY creepy. I'm much rather her try to awkwardly hit on him with some twister than the "look at me koyomi-oniichan" stuff that was in Bake, plus Arararagi, admittedly unaware of her feelings, explicty tries NOT to be a pedo where as in Bake he explictly was. So yes I'll take the aggressiveness as it makes the show less creepy.
If rape imagery isn't aggressive I don't know what is :P
As for Hitagi... I didn't think her bit was that sexual or at least not in comparison to the stuff she did in the Snail/Monkey arcs. Now it is aggressive and maybe CRAZY, but I thought she would go more yandere after seeing on wiki she doesn't just fade into background after Bakemono. And well um.... Me Gusta x9001
As for the writing.... there is definitly less frames with quotes and what not but thats really due to Shaft being able to animate those parts (and both CR and CMS didn't sub the beginning wall of text, WTF). I dunno I really can't say I noticed a real drop in "quality" other than the sequences were short so it was hard to compare/notice. I mean I can say Bake had better written parts but then at the same time I can think of worse parts, and that's more sample size than anything. I mean hell my fav ep of bake (1) the first bit with his monologue and talking to cat wasn't that good, it was kinda boring where as I can't say Nise has been boring once. Oh and its funnier. On an individual basis (from writing not the plot) I'd say Crab/Monkey have been worse and Snail(!!!)/Snake were better than the Bake equalvalent. Quite frankly snail was enough for me to say Nise is better but it is less NisiOsin and more SZS.
Bouncing off your comment to Shatner, I think it's only sexually aggressive for these first couple episodes, apparently it's going to get pretty serious fairly soon. I look forward to it, but I can't complain with Sengoku fanservice ;).
