Hello there Sakido. I've actually read a bit of the Lensman novels, but that was ages ago. As I recall they were, well... alright for the founding saga of space opera, but the movie really wasn't anything special.

The Lensman series were created by Edward E. "Doc" Smith, one of the grandmasters of SF alongside Heinlein, Asimov etc. He couldn't possibly have raised objections against the anime, because he died, regretfully, 46 years ago. The thing is, in the original, the lens were not as hyped as in the movie, but I believe that, for a 1988 film, this is the kind of action expected.
