Kids on the Slope

Dec 29, 2013

Secret Santa Review - 2013 Sakamichi no Apollon(Kids on the Slope) is a slice of of life set in post-war Japan. The animation reflects this with a rustic color scheme and simple character designs. A story about two boys from broken families who find solace in jazz music, Sakamichi no Apollon follows these boys through their high school years. As a 12 episode series, this means that the narrative can feel a little rushed at times. Overall I thought this was an excellent show, and the ending really threw me for a loop, in a good way.

Xam'd: Lost Memories

Dec 28, 2012

Secret Santa 2012 Review Xam'd: Lost Memories is an anime I've heard of before, but honestly knew nothing about- which was nice. There's just something diffeabout going into a new series with absolutely no expectations or preconceptions. Now, on to the review! Story: The plot of Xam'd is fairly simple, although not always easy to follow. Akiyuki, the main character, is your average school boy until 'something weird' happens and he's forced to cope with both the changes within himself and in the world around him. There really aren't any shocking twists to be found, but by the end of the series... See full review

I... Honestly don't know what to think of this OVA. It was enjoyable, but I honestly didn't really understand... Anything.

Oreimo

Dec 26, 2010

While it didn't have much depth(character or plot-wise), Oreimo is a touching story about sibling love. Lighthearted and humorous, the story of incredibly normal Kyouske and his too-perfect sister(with a bad attitude) Kirino was oddly compelling. There's a lot of things that could have been done better, but the heart of the story was (mostly) innocent sugar-coated sweetness, and that's really what fluff is all about, right?

Video Girl AI

Dec 25, 2010

Video Girl AI is a sweet romance, although the ending was a little confusing. It didn't really explain anything, which is more than a little frustrating. However, it was a cute little love story that kept me guessing until the very end.

Akira

Dec 24, 2010

This movie was... Incredible. I really didn't understand what was going on during most of it, but at the same time, the story was so compelling that I just couldn't stop. I still have a lot of questions, but I have a feeling that was the goal- to make you think, really think. It simply blew my mind, and in a good way.
