Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

on Nov 12, 2012

The Story The story itself is very simple, but interesting. In a post-apocalyptic world exist vampires, ghouls , ghosts, daemons and similar things. And that also means that there are people (or half vampires) like D, the protagonist, who hunts them. Since the human hunters are very good at what they do, supernatural beings are almost extinct.  The story starts when a young girl is kidnapped by a vampire and D is asked by the girl’s father to bring her back alive if she is a human or her head if she has become a vampire. He sets of to find her and he meets group of hunters who are on the same... read more

Sword of the Stranger

on Oct 27, 2013

So based on a much larger and probably better manga version Sword of the Stranger brings us great animation with fluid battles, great coreography and nicely done backgrounds. After all the animation was done by BONES. And BONES knows it's animation. But... It's a BONES anime. This means it often relies on exterior and just that. And this is one of the best textbook examples of a shallow, empty exterior. Set in kendo era Japan it follows... A guy with a sword. I can't really say anything else about him. He is just and only a kind heart swordsman. It's not bad that he is kind hearted and all that but come on... read more

Serial Experiments Lain

on Nov 20, 2012

The Story When talking about good anime things that come to mind aren't really related to boring. But the thing is Serial Experiments Lain is without any doubt the most boring anime I have ever watched. This of course does not mean it is not good, on the contrary Serial Experiments Lain is probably the best written and among the most original anime I have ever seen. If I would be comparing this to literature what comes to mind is Kafka and his work. SEL is an excellent anime for quite a few reasons, it has an amazing atmosphere, it keeps you guessing and the thing it does best is making you... read more

Ping Pong The Animation

on Jun 27, 2014

So why is Ping Pong such a special anime? It is a blast not only for the senses, but for the mind as well. As it was directed by Masaaki Yuasa, the man behind Kaiba and Tatami Galaxy it is no wonder. But let's not get ahead of ourselves. What is Ping Pong? Well my friend it is a show about Ping Pong, the only thing more boring than regular tennis. But Pinky-sama why is it a good anime if it focuses on something as boring? Well, simply because it does not focus on the sport, but rather because it focuses on the characters. Basically the same thing that makes Neon Genesis Evangelion the best mecha, use the... read more

Monster

on Dec 12, 2012

The Story If anime had a style period Monster would fit in somewhere between realism and romantism. In fact I feel wrong calling Monster an anime, it has no humor, it's not fun, has no fanservice, no badassery, no overblown romance and it's school life free. The story is told slowly, minding evrery detail  and it mostly consists of detective work regardles if it's actual detectives doing their job or the protagonists simply investigating. Pieces of the puzzle slowly start to take their place, and interpretations of certain facts begin to change. It is also told on many levels as many different... read more

Mirai Nikki TV

on Sep 23, 2012

Well let us see, did I enjoy this anime? The answer is no, this is by far the worst anime I have ever seen. No other anime gets close to it. The story revolves around Yuki and Yuno, 14 year olds who need to kill 10 (11) other people (all of which have diarys that tell them the future in different ways) to become god of time or something like that. Sound interesting? It sounded good to me. But then I watched the series, and I regret that. The plot is so badly written it is well a masterpiece in bad writing. The amount of plot holes is simply amazing, I was actually stunned. Since an essay could be written... read more

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni

on Nov 5, 2012

The Story The story is is it's basis very simple; it is devided in arcs where you watch characters die in various ways (the shock effect in this anime is ok, nothing too explicit if you ask me but than again nothing is disturbing for me). The Hinamizawa village is a small place in the middle of nowhere and in it moves Keichii, a 13 year old boy who meets a lot of girls and plays with them and does cross-dressing, normal things boy do at his age. But obviously no loli with an axe is a safe loli. And then shit gets serious as he gets cursed by something called Oyashiro-sama’s curse n’ stuff and... read more

Hellsing Ultimate

on Jan 17, 2013

The Story Hellsing… You will not be watching it for the plot. The story follows Alucard, a ridiculously over-powered vampire on a crusade against Nazi vampires and Catholic sociopaths. Sounds ridiculous? And it is, the story is horrible.  While the first few episodes were mildly coherent and okay in terms of why Alucard goes where he goes and what he does, after episode five it rapidly goes downhill. Plot twists will be revealed without any premise or reason *cough* Walter *cough* and will serve only one reason – giving Alucard people, vampires, ghouls or Catholic soldiers that look like... read more

Gun x Sword

on Oct 15, 2012

Story The story is a nice mix of Trigun and  Cowboy Bebop. It starts with 10 episodes where Van, a badass with a black treanch coat in the desert with a mecha that comes from space, and Wendy are basically questing and looking for someone;  Van for the man that killed his waifu and Wendy for her brother. When they reach him the plot gets serious. A lot of characters are introduced; every one of them is a very interesting one with their life goals and ambitions. But the best part about the show is the shounen parody; know those annoying speeches villains have before the fight? They are stopped... read more

Gunbuster

on Jan 8, 2013

The Story It was boring and I was scrolling through anime list and I stumbled upon Gunbuster, a quite anime made by the craziest studio of them all, Gainax so I had to pick it up. What can this be compared to and what is it like? It feels like Tengen Topa Gurren Langann (64.3% chance I spelled it wrong) thrown back into the 80s. The story is quite simple yet really epic, the protagonist is a crew member of a space ship sent deep into space to fight…. You guessed it space monsters. Simple and at the same time somehow refreshing since it is very different from the anime we see today. The story is... read more

Ghost in the Shell: Arise

on Jun 30, 2013

I had my hopes up, I was hoping 2013 would bring a few interesting anime. One of the anime I really wanted to see and enjoy was Ghost in the Shell: Arise, as it turns out a prequel to the first move, one of the most important and artistic cinematographic works ever made. But as soon as I started watching crap just started piling up. First things first, the animation, a huge element of the first movie that had a lot of beautiful imaginative work combined with fitting gritty hand drawn animation and magnificent visual exposition that in just a few minutes showed us how the world looked and how it was run. In... read more

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

on Sep 2, 2013

This will be more of a rant than a review, but bare with me. The story went like this: Space war between space squids and human. Humans lose. Protagonist gets teleported to Earth that is now covered by sea. And basically this is the point when it starts being bad. It was so aimless and so empty, I could literaly hear Nietche saying: "If you stare long enought into the abyss, the abyss stares back at you." We had no plot, the characters didn't explore things like how life is on space and how different the cultures are, they spent 2 out of thirteen episodes on fanservice (mind that it was... read more

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

on Jul 16, 2012

Could be some SPOILERS! Story 7.5/10 It follows a young aristocrat who becomes friends with a misteryous man called Count of Monte Cristo. I did not read the original book but it seems to follow its plot. You dont get a feeling that you are watching an anime. I felt like I was reading a book from realism. It is a story about revenge. And it can be quite philosophiycal at times. Not too much but it has an intelegent feel to it. And it is a seinen. Which is good. Animaton 8.5/10 Well the animation is not realy good bit it has a wonderfull style. I have never seen anything like it. So it was refreshing... read more

Fist of the North Star

on Mar 26, 2013

In a cruel post-apocalyptic world only the strongest can survive. And the strongest one is Kenshiro. The one who can stand up and fight the darkness. Okay, enough with the dramatisation. The story is basically what we can call moe with a small twist, instead of kawai girls we get a huge number of giant men with temper issues. And as the kawai girls play in a band and drink tea, the men in Fist of the North Star cut other people in half or if they are feeling sadistic make their heads go boom. And therefor we get a farely predictable plot (that actually does pick up pace somewhere around the middle, but... read more

Angel Beats!

on Dec 5, 2012

The Story Very often some anime are endlessly hyped as being the most dramatic, sweetest, romantic, philosophical and whatnot. Angel Beats is one of those so I decided to check it out and see for myself. I have to say it was underwhelming. The story revolves around a bunch of 15 year olds who have died or are in a comma. And fuck me they ended up in a fucking high school afterlife thing. In it they try to kill the student council president, some angel program... stoic loli. And do the most reasonable thing, which is of course defeat God. I don't want to enter ontological ramblings about God being absolute... read more
