Bonjour♪Sweet Love Patisserie

Jun 10, 2015

This is the junk food of animes. . . I laughed like a maniac every time I saw the intro to this show with those beautiful bishonen cupcakes floating through the night sky on beds of confections while they tried really hard to croon out the melodic French greeting, "Bon Jouuuur dooooooo duuuu!" The desserts! The twirling while making said desserts! Who will the giant eyed girl pick? I spent the whole afternoon watching all of the episodes. Then, I called my friend and made her come over and watch it with me the next day and wash, rinse and repeat. (She loved it) It is terrible. It is over the... See full review

ICE

Sep 26, 2014

It is almost magical how bad this anime is. . . ICE broken down scene by scene: Scene 1: Once upon a time there was a girl with massive 90s hair who had a creepy overly curious brother. Her extremely creepy, overly curious brother asks her if she had hot sex the night before because she came home so late.  Big Hair calmly tells him, "No way bro I'm a virgin for suuuure." Sadly, Big Hair gets hit by a car on the way to buy more hairspray from the supermarket.  A creepy child talks about being in her mom’s belly. BOOM! THE FUTURE All the men are dead. . . for some reason. I... See full review

RDG: Red Data Girl

Jun 23, 2013

This anime had more holes in it than swiss cheese on top of a donut. I really wanted to like this anime, but, the entire thing, save for the animation itself fell incredibly short. Story: I have four words to sum up the plot. All Over The Place. . . I kept thinking I was missing an episode for some reason and "Why is this happening? and "I don't get why this (insert object, person, episode) is relevent?!!?" All of the of the plot lines never quite connected. I feel like this could have been resolved by there being at least 20 episodes instead of 12. Animation: The one thing... See full review

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann

May 6, 2011

I did not expect to become emotionally invested, crying actual tears, in a "mecchi" show that featured copious amount of under boob a giant battleship with a hard on. . . But, somehow or another Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann turned out to be so much more than that and won me over with its humanity and "Fighting Spirit." This is a very character driven show. The writer of this story does a great job in character development and believability. You will root for these characters, bad and good alike. You will come to understand their love, desperation, tenacity and courage. The plot ... See full review

Grave of the Fireflies

Apr 22, 2011

I do not often say that a movie or show is a must watch, but, I strongly believe that this film should be shown to every human, in every spoken language. We as a society have glamorized war.  War is not beautiful. . . War is downright ugly and sad. People who have not experienced war themselves, or are not close to someone who has, may not really have a true grasp on the horrors and devastation it can bring. This film takes off all of the glamor and shows you the ugly truth. . . and by doing so it becomes a timeless work of art. If you really think about it, for or the most part we only hear ... Lament of the Lamb

Apr 22, 2011

I think that this four part anime would have benefited greatly from having an additional 2-4 episodes. This small addition would have allowed for more substantial character development and plot cohesiveness. The animation, for the most part, fit the mood. . . dark and depressing. However, it was a bit off putting to me that the "love" interest Shou Yaegashi looked almost exactly like the main character Kazuna Takashiro. The sound effects were sometimes a distraction from the show itself. . . (example episode 2) I do, however, feel the ending song was a nice fit. The characters had real ... See full review

Ouran High School Host Club

Apr 18, 2011

This show helped me through one of the darkest times of my life. . . I know, I know . . . Dramatic much? YES! Without getting into all of the details, life in general was sucking in massive proportions. It really was to the point where I no longer felt the energy or need to do basic things. . . Soooo laughing and general merriment was completely and utterly out of the question.  However, to try and silence the running commentary going on in my head, I would sometimes put something on (TV, radio, CD). Generally, I would lose interest after a few minutes and go back to Gloom Town Pop. 1 . ... See full review

Trinity Blood

Apr 18, 2011

This Show Made Me So Angry Why? Because it brought back a feeling. . . Do you remember dressing up for Halloween as a kid? You: Giddy with excitement to trick or treat at the house down the street with awesome decorations because you just KNOW they are going to give out the best candy. BUT. . . When you get there, you, with your little hands stretched out, your heart bursting with joy. . . are handed an inedible pair of wax lips instead of a lollipop. Trinity Blood is the wax lips of my anime collection. It had the potential to be truly great and nose dived into epic failure at the... See full review

Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei

Apr 18, 2011

What If I Had Died!   Shaft Animation Studios has produced another quirky and hilarious series that fits in well if you loved the art styling, and sheer episodic randomness of the likes of Arakawa Under the Bridge. This is a character driven story that pokes fun at anime stereotypes as well as itself. But be warned it has a very high ratio of fan service if you are not into that. . . There are also many pause and rewind moments, as you will not catch everything that is going on in the classroom (especially the blackboard) if you are frantically reading subtitles like... Comedy

Apr 18, 2011

This anime is a visually stunning piece of art. In a short ten minute jaunt it tells the story of a young girl who entrusts the safety of herself and her village to an anti-hero for a price . . .  It rapidly sucks you into a world reminiscent of a water color painting awash with black, yet still manages to at times be so lighthearted. Helping this story along is the ever beautiful and haunting "Ave Maria" by Schubert which made it feel all the more ethereal.   To me it raised the questions: What would you do/give to save your family and your home?Would you be willing to...
