I like to watch anime, play video games (mostly J-RPGS), and workout. That's about it. I'm not a very social guy, but if you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you... and ummm.... yeah.... Enjoy life how ever you see fit, and don't let other people judge you for who you are. Live for yourself, not for others. etc...etc... Favorite Visual Novels: If you don't like visual novels that's great, keep it to yourself. I myself enjoy them, so don't try to make me feel bad about liking them, it won't work.

Thanks for the feedback as to why Gintama is popular well for a start its in shonan jump so that is a good start and its an alternate setting to the era just before the samurai died out and together with the Sengoku period they are the most popular eras of Japanese history in entertainment. It has a lot of gags and funny references to other series and traits within anime and makes fun of them the only problem is the story on the whole is a disjointed mess and while the story arcs are far superior to Fairy tail's own it is still a mess of a series.
However Gintama doesn't do mindless fanservice like Fairy tail does and goes for a pretty funny approach and while it doesn't have a concise story its humor is more entertaining than Fairy tail's own. However considering you hate Excel Saga I would probably advise you to stay the heck away from Gintama but I like how it takes the piss out of common tropes in series but I don't take Gintama's plot too seriously so I enjoy it more that way. If Fairy tail relabeled itself as an ecchi comedy rather than action adventure or typical shounan I would have far more respect for it as the action and adventure is just far too shallow. Also Gintoki the main character is much, much, much better than that joke Natsu.
