Soul Eater

Dec 22, 2009

Honestly, I tried to watch this one because it was rated rather highly and people I've heard talk about it had good things to say but frankly, there was only one character that didn't get on my nerves completely and the rest of the show was completely pointless, repetitive, and idiotic. There didn't seem to be any real story to it so I'm frankly bemused as to how it got 50+ eps. Perhaps it did pick up after a while but 6 eps into a show and it couldn't hook me, more over it annoyed me, kinda gives me the impression that the rest of the show isn't going to be worth my time. Especially at 51 eps...The... See full review

Amagami SS

Jan 2, 2011

For me this show was an unusual yet welcome concept. Take 6 girls, 1 guy, and tell a love story for each pairing separately through the same year of the guy's life. At first I was thinking that the progression was extremely fast for a 25 ep show but as I figured out later, it was more akin to 6 4-5 ep shows based on the same characters. If you still don't understand what I mean read the whole review and then post below if you're still confused. Story: Each story had its different merits, some I liked more than others but none I disliked except for the final episode which was a story in of itself... See full review

The Legend of the Legendary Heroes

Jan 24, 2011

I wasn't sure how I would feel about a show titled Legend of the Legendary Heroes when I first saw the translated name. I mean how unimaginative can you get? Still what you get is far more than what the title gives you... Story: Firstly, I would like to state that this is a bit more than I would normally give a show that's "incomplete" since it's still got a second season yet to be produced. The story through this 24 episode show isn't done and so on the basis that there is a second season on the way I rated it as high as I would having seen the second half already. Now, onto the actual story's... See full review

Otome Youkai Zakuro

Sep 13, 2011

A sweet tale weaved with your typical parts. Story: All in all, there wasn't much here that you couldn't find in half of the other shows like it. A pretty standard fair with oddly drawn characters thrown in to make it seem unique. The progression had a very little stagnation but the fact that it was only 13 episodes didn't leave much room for padding. It was still a cute little rom/com set in what I can only assume to be an alternate world where monsters and humans lived side by side. Animation: A very prettily drawn show, lots of detail and well designed characters and buildings. It's not something... See full review

Sakurada Reset

Dec 24, 2018

This was one very hard to follow story, due to not only a lot of time skipping you are also challenged with timelines being altered almost every episode. More over, often things are left unsaid or unexplained so that the mystery is left for later episodes to explain. It takes a lot of memory and comprehention to keep up, not something everyone can do. Perhaps, in that way, it can be considered a failure as a show. Story: What starts out as a story about a boy trying to help a girl detached from her emotions to find her humanity again eventually evolves into a multifaceted story that deals with a wide... Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero

Jan 3, 2013

So the hero has vanquished the Dark Lord, spared the life of the Dark Lord's daughter, and saved the kingdom, what does he have left to do? Why, do it all over again! Story: While it probably isn't the first story ever to do it, it was the first one I've ever seen with this concept. Picture if you will, the aftermath of the hero's glorious victory and now he has wanders off in search of a new adventure?  Nay, he takes his booty and runs back to his home world where hilarity and many action packed hijinx ensue! I went into this anime with little to no information on it and I'm kind of glad I did... See full review

The Fruit of Grisaia

Dec 15, 2018

Patricide, suicide, pedophilia, sexual assault, canabalism, sprinkle some blood, gore, and few bewbs and we are only scratching the surface of this show. Seriously, the writers dug deep into humanity's darker side and ran with it for a while, and yet it's packaged in this super sweet looking rom/com with some action. If that's what you're looking for btw, might wana look else where. this one goes into the deep end a few times... consider that fair warning, spoiler free just incase though ;) If you have a high tolerance for such previously mentioned shenanigans, I heartily recomend giving this one a... The Princess and the Pilot

Jul 23, 2012

Yes, another reivew where my Overall score doesn't refelect the actual scoring of the rest. Story: The Princess and the Pauper er Pilot. Cute story, well told over the corse of a few days with mild flashbacks. Sadly, the main reason that I liked this story was also ultimately why I didn't like it... Unfortunately I can't explain why without dropping a major spoiler and that is something I don't do in my reviews. Animation: Nothing I wouldn't expect from an anime from this era, and perhaps that's made me a bit jaded in this regard, still the designs were well done, beautifully presented and in the end... Dance in the Vampire Bund

Sep 3, 2011

Story: Thankfully the story had substance to it but the ultimate issue here is that it's based on a manga that's still ongoing so has very little closure. Whether or not they plan on more seasons I don't know and even so that probably wouldn't change my opinion of this show much though I would admittedly watch them should they become available. The main problem I had with the show as it's inconsistency, it had a few conflicting problems with their plot developments which I think could have been avoided had they just planned for it better. I think this had a lot more potential and seems to have a lot more... See full review

Jan 13, 2010

Story:I didn't really expect to enjoy this show as much as I did, and while there were a few things about it wasn't overly impressed with the story was entertaining, compelling and satisfying. It was also quite unique and nearly believable in it's realistic portrayal of possible technology bridging the spiritual and real worlds accidentally. The fact that we aren't too far away from the technology represented in those glasses adds a healthy dose of reality to the show's theme.Animation:At first I wasn't sure if I really liked the characters designs too much, but soon it grew on me and I ended up loving them... Lets just say, this show commited a sin that I will not spoil for those of you actually wanting to see it. Though it grates on my nerves that I can't forcefully enough steer you clear of this show. My only real warning is if you're really into the Disney style story book ending, look elsewhere, you won't find that here. Everything else about this show was average at best, and I'm thinking about the only thing that's made it so popular is bouncing boobies on a scantilly clad tsundere. Bout sums it up... Princess Principal

Dec 30, 2018

Questoin: Is this show any good. Answer: Not even remotely. Premise was preposterous, plot was pretentious, and over all execution was a snore fest. What little drama they had here was about as feels inducing as a wet paper sack. Story: There were major problems here, ranging from predictable to a fault all the way to competely nonsensical decision making from various side characters which were obviously done just so the plot could be moved in a certain direction. The stink of poor writing and plot management was all over this. Time skips, without warning or reason served to make me just face palm. It's... See full review

Problem Children Are Coming From Another World, Aren't They?

Mar 10, 2015

A perfect example of what happens when Dues Ex Machina runs rampant. Story: I guess there was a story here, but it's disjointed and unfinished nature left more than a little something to be desired. What makes it worse is the fact that it had real potential to be a great anime but fell so short of the mark because it never went anywhere that you're just left with a bitter taste. Animation: Actually a decent looking show with it's stylized characters, well done scenes, and everything else having a solid flow to it. I can't say... See full review

Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040

Mar 13, 2013

This title deserves a little bit of background information because it's got a rather sordid and colorful past. The original version of this show was dropped by one production company only to be picked up and sued by another production company for breach of contract. As a result, the story/series Bubblegum Crisis (2033) was never truly finished (going through a long drawn out legal process), it had a few OVA's to try to correct that but was never well done or received. 2040 is essentially a remake from beginning to end of the story proper. It did spark several spin offs during that period, but I have not... See full review

Hanasakeru Seishounen

Jan 23, 2011

In any great anime there are a few intangible qualities you just might miss when you've got less experience with it. In many ways this can be a blessing because you come across a title like this one that on the surface is actually pretty good if you're still fresh into anime in general. Unfortunately the flip side is also true being that you begin to notice the little things that can unravel a perfectly good anime into one that just irks you too often. This title, for me, is such an example of what happens when you become so familiar with something that you notice all the little flaws turning a gem into a... See full review

Sumomomo Momomo

Jan 19, 2011

This anime was a oddity for me. It had the queer ability to make me laugh my ass off while at the same time annoy the hell out of me. Story: To me, the main premise of the show was kinda dry, or in other words just lacked much in the way of substance. Frankly I don't think they were trying to hard here since I believe their main goal was to be funny, thankfully they at the very least achieved that. In the end, they did get kind of serious with it but they didn't try to shed the comedic value that they cultivated from episode 1. If you're looking for a great story, you're not going to find it here, if you... See full review

Log Horizon

Nov 29, 2014

My review for Sword Art Online v2.0 Lite.... >.> *coughs* Ok so the timing and resemblance to SAO is going to make it compared to that anime forever. Which is frankly a shame, as the two shows are completely different in flavor.

Story:

So the first few minutes in or even if you read a synopsis somewhere, you get the idea that the premiss behind the show isn't any different from another recent and very popular show. There are subtle differences to start but it's undeniably the same, still, as things progress you will quickly see more and more differences in how the story unfolds and where... See full review

Mardock Scramble: The First Compression

Sep 28, 2013

I went into this movie without a clue about it except it's future setting and I must say the first 5 minutes of the movie really set the tone for the whole thing. Very blunt and graphic progression through out. Don't let my "grim" account of it in no way shade my enjoyment of this title. I decided not to do a full on review yet simply because I haven't seen the 3rd (and what I assume to be the final) movie in this series. And a such, to me, the story and experience is yet incomplete. Not that I shy from giving reviews on an incomplete viewing but I have to have very strong feelings about the... See full review

We Were There

Jan 30, 2011

Aaah, teenage angst at it's worst.... Story: What can I say, I haven't seen a more bland, prepackaged, and overly used subject matter in a while but this pretty much takes the cake. It really doesn't get more basic or over used than this, and sadly, without resorting to major spoilers, I can't really say anything else here. I can say, though, that I've easily seen 10 different manga, 20 other anime titles, and 50 different movies, which have used the same format of which about 80-90% of them did it better. Animation: About the only thing that actually was somewhat decent but had it's own failings to go... See full review

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi

Nov 8, 2010

HSDK has the dubious distinction of being my #1 anime of all time. It's the only anime series I've watched more than 10 times now and continue to do so as time goes on. It never fails to bring a smile to my eyes, yes eyes, a task infinitely harder to do than just making me smile with my mouth alone. It's an anime who's sum does not equal it's parts since the only thing I rated at a perfect ten here was it's characters. Story: Truth be told there's not a huge amount of story here. Boy meets girl, boy gets beaten up by girl, boy falls in love and tries to become a martial artist to protect a girl that... See full review

Red Garden

May 26, 2010

Right off I'd like to say if you decide to watch Red Garden I highly recommend you also watch Dead Girls afterward. Being a kind of after story well concludes the girls endings that Red Garden kind of leaves a bit open.Story:There was a lot to this title, I enjoyed it once I got past all the melodrama. At first it kind of went a story telling in a pulp fiction style, and poorly at that, but thankfully it moved away from this style and continued in a more linear fashion. It had pretty decent progression from ep to ep and made it well worth watching after you're into it. Really only the first ep was hard to... See full review

Story:The story itself wasn't so bad, all around it had a good message, it progressed well and I enjoyed watching it. I wasn't overly impressed but it wasn't a complete botch job either.Animation:There really wasn't much to the anime that wowed me, it was obvious CGI cell shading style character designs but it was well detailed in it's vehicle and city designs. Still, for current tech it was sub-par.Sound:Sounds were pretty easy to ignore, nothing really stood out and yet to me that's a good thing. 7 is a pretty standard score for me to give this category unless something in particular got my attention in... Divergence Eve

Nov 18, 2009

This review was pulled off the forums from an old club I used to run, the format is different for that reason but still applies here.Overall Score: 6.5 What can you say about this to start off that doesn't touch on the overly obvious? The A-P tag "Boobs in Space" is more than obviously well earned. The gravity defying, Jell-O consistency, uniformly sized, and rather large boobs of every female character other than the token loli (android) made for a challenge to see past. This anime can only be sumed up in 1 word... eh?I found myself saying that repeatedly throughout this series from the very begining, literally from the first 2 minutes in I said it for the first time.Story:There was potential here, sadly poorly managed plot timing and shotty story telling really ruined it completely. If the show wasn't a overall failure I might have tried to finish it.Anamation:The running theme of the show was inconsistancy, the artwork ranged from very well done to nearly early 90's quality, aka very poor. That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Mar 3, 2019

How one of my favorite shows of a season became one of my least favorite shows of a season. Let me preface this with I read Slime Reincarnation’s light novel but not it's manga adaptation before watching the anime, and I've since learned that the anime follows the manga way more than the light novel. As such, the characterization differences I found jaring and frankly insulting to my intelligence. Story: It’s not particularly original but it is slightly unique in its concept. Take the lowest (or one of the lowest) tier monster there is and have him become the stupidly OP MC for your story... See full review

Dec 21, 2018

This story made no sense. Start to finish I was scratching my head at the choices and actions of various characters. More over this story changes gears so often it's like watching a writer with ADD trying to write 5 different stories at the same time. Biggest problem of this one was character writing but the plots randomly fast and slow pacing didn't help things. Story: The premise, though not very original, was interesting. And really the way it was selling itself for the first half of it I figured we were going to get a fun time with a group of crazy superpowered kids rescuing other superpowered kids... Cuteness incarnate carries the entire show on her back. This was one of my top anime when I originally saw it and obviously loved it. Revisiting it now I can see that I was suffering from moe overload. That's not to say this wasn't a worthwhile revisit, just that the show (sans rose colored glasses) was rife with problems, and that I am willing to forgive most of them due to the character writing on a single 5 year old. Story: Main problem this story has is it's premise; a 17 year old male highschool student with poor judgement is given guardianship of a 5 year old girl. Especially taking into... See full review

I was hopeful and optomistic that an old favorite aged well over the nearly 10 years since I saw it the first time. Sadly this one managed to irk me on several points. For the record this is a review of both seasons and not just the first. Story: If I had to describe the main feeling I felt watching this show it would be frustration. Misunderstandings on parade, he misunderstands her, she to him, they to them... it's kind of a never ending layered onion of misunderstandings. In my ongoing quest to watch my own top anime list, to see if the shows stand up to the test of time, I decided to pick this little gem of a show and I was glad I did. Story: Very few shows I've seen have the fully contained story in a single season, of those that do very few pull off the feat well. This is among those enjoyable few, then and now. Story is relatively distinct and still straight forward, ranges from ploding along to sudden jumps forward in plot but they don't tease you with information.
