How one of my favorite shows of a season became one of my least favorite shows of a season. Let me preface this with I read Slime Reincarnation’s light novel but not it's manga adaptation before watching the anime, and I've since learned that the anime follows the manga way more than the light novel. As such, the characterization differences I found jaring and frankly insulting to my intelligence. Story: It’s not particularly original but it is slightly unique in its concept. Questoin: Is this show any good. Answer: Not even remotely. Premise was preposterous, plot was pretentious, and over all execution was a snore fest. What little drama they had here was about as feels inducing as a wet paper sack. This was one very hard to follow story, due to not only a lot of time skipping you are also challenged with timelines being altered almost every episode. More over, often things are left unsaid or unexplained so that the mystery is left for later episodes to explain. It takes a lot of memory and comprehention to keep up, not something everyone can do. This story made no sense. Start to finish I was scratching my head at the choices and actions of various characters. More over this story changes gears so often it's like watching a writer with ADD trying to write 5 different stories at the same time. Cuteness incarnate carries the entire show on her back. This was one of my top anime when I originally saw it and obviously loved it. Revisiting it now I can see that I was suffering from moe overload. That's not to say this wasn't a worthwhile revisit, just that the show (sans rose colored glasses) was rife with problems, and that I am willing to forgive most of them due to the character writing on a single 5 year old. I was hopeful and optomistic that an old favorite aged well over the nearly 10 years since I saw it the first time. Sadly this one managed to irk me on several points. Patricide, suicide, pedophilia, sexual assault, canabalism, sprinkle some blood, gore, and few bewbs and we are only scratching the surface of this show. Seriously, the writers dug deep into humanity's darker side and ran with it for a while, and yet it's packaged in this super sweet looking rom/com with some action. In my ongoing quest to watch my own top anime list, to see if the shows stand up to the test of time, I decided to pick this little gem of a show and I was glad I did. Story: Very few shows I've seen have the fully contained story in a single season, of those that do very few pull off the feat well. This is among those enjoyable few, then and now. There are lots of things I liked and disliked about this show and for the most part I really hope it gets a sequil. Mainly I say this because of the massive amount of loose ends just left all over the place. The main protagonist being the biggest glaring issue of them all, more on that later. Scary woman meets laid back amnesiac; trials, tribulations and troubles ensue. Story: I wasn't expecting this to be very good in all honesty. The synopsis sounded out right dumb. But when I watched this for the first time, and yes there has now been a second time which is why I decided to write this review, I was more than a little surprised at what I got. How many ways can we mess up a free sequel? Let us count the ways. Story: There is a story here, it just doesn't matter very much. It's really way more about the infrequent and poorly executed fights so in the end they skipped substance for eye candy and failed horribly. Animation: For an "action" anime the fluid colorful style is sure to turn some heads but it clashes horribly with the high tech theme which is often way more ridged. So for such a short film at only 45 minutes I've gotta hand it to the writer in the ability to tell a sweet love story as this in so little time. It wasn't perfect, and it wasn't easy to follow but for the most part the anime was well worth the watch. A perfect example of what happens when Dues Ex Machina runs rampant. Story: I guess there was a story here, but it's disjointed and unfinished nature left more than a little something to be desired. So in one of my random viewing sprees of anime, this was a title I decided to muddle through after realizing what the show was gonna start doing. Sure enough they started dropping like flies. It wasn't until later that I found out the anime had almost nothing to do with the original work from the manga. Moral of the story; no one is without their scars, I think? Well, it's a very endearing love story too. Story: A wonderfully paced romance with speckling of comedy but a bit too much drama for my tastes. Which probably means if you're into romance dramas with a little comedy relief you're probably going to love this one. The epitome of all that is wrong with Mecha shows, this one made errors beyond that even... Story: OK, so there was a story here, but they glossed it over the whole way, half the time I wasn't really sure what I was watching except a poorly executed romance of the three kindoms clone, complete with both science and magic. I went into this movie without a clue about it except it's future setting and I must say the first 5 minutes of the movie really set the tone for the whole thing. Very blunt and graphic progression through out. Don't let my "grim" account of it in no way shade my enjoyment of this title. This title deserves a little bit of background information because it's got a rather sordid and colorful past. The original version of this show was dropped by one production company only to be picked up and sued by another production company for breach of contract. As a result, the story/series Bubblegum Crisis (2033) was never truly finished (going through a long drawn out legal process), it had a few OVA's to try to correct that but was never well done or received. 2040 is essentially a remake from beginning to end of the story proper. Finished my 2nd time through BL and BL2, when I first watched this series I was floored, I didn't really know much about the series at the time but was told I had to watch it. It instantly made its way into my top 10 and has never moved since. So, does the show stand the test of time? Absolutely. So the hero has vanquished the Dark Lord, spared the life of the Dark Lord's daughter, and saved the kingdom, what does he have left to do? Why, do it all over again! Anime's that stand the test of time, language conversion, and even culture differences. This title didn't make it. Originally when I saw this anime I wasn't very deep into my anime/manga obsession and I truly enjoyed, nay, loved this anime. What I saw was the subbed/Japanese "original", what I'm reviewing is the dubbed/American "conversion". The first time I saw Shuffle! I was enamored of it, several years later after browsing my Netflix options I found they had the show available for streaming and figured what the heck. Several other shows I've found the same way, having watched them again, did stand the test of time and English conversion, will this one follow suit? Story: At first glance this sells itself as just another romance story set in Rome, not that there are tons of anime set in Rome but the romance aspect is a dime a dozen. What you get, however, is a very complex network of relationships and back stories to go with just about every support character as well as the 2 mains. A sweet tale weaved with your typical parts. Story: All in all, there wasn't much here that you couldn't find in half of the other shows like it.
