I pointed out your "mistake" and you still wonder? Just read my own Xamdou review and find out what I mean.

I can understand dislike for both TTGL and NGE.

TTGL walks a fine path in its race towards insanity and if you can't stay on it naturally it'd just seem insanely stupid. A friend I tried showing it to completely hated Kamina and was completely unable to continue watching. I generally sympathize with main characters so this show worked out for me.

NGE intentionally has hugely flawed characters which may turn some people off of it. It may be credited with changing the industry at the time but nowadays it's not as spectacular. Thus, the more noteworthy characteristics nowadays are its absurd levels of character deconstruction but I would guess less people enjoyed it because of that specifically. However, it'd be insane for me to not put it on my list ; it's what really turned me on to anime in general, it's what turned me on to collecting anime on DVD, and I still put it on to watch some episodes.

I'm not sure what Figure 17's online availability is but I'm sure it's out there. If you have any trouble finding it let me know. We can probably figure something out.

I can see why you'd put a limit of 5-10 favorites on DVDs since everything on your list is available on DVD save for Denno Coil. Well, and technically InuYasha Final, if you wanted to include that in InuYasha, but I'm not familiar with Viz re-releasing InuYasha in a more condensed form than the season sets so that would be a pricey pickup anyways (especially if it's out of print.)

If you're ever undecided on the DVD vs Blu-ray for series you start to collect, perhaps actually seeing them would be helpful. I haven't acquired the blu-ray versions of any of the titles on your list (Moribito and Ouran are available) but I have pre-ordered next week's Twelve Kingdoms Part 1 blu-ray release.

I've made attempts to narrow down some of my favorite of favorites in the past and managed to narrow it down to 20 series (which jumped up to 21 when Brotherhood was simply too spectacular to not put on there.) I went ahead and edited my Favorite Anime list with these titles. Make of it what you will since I'm not claiming that these titles are inherently superior.

Just a bit lethargic from the smoke and worried about what I should do with my anime DVD collection if any of those fires get too close to home. Otherwise, intrigued by this event happening so close.

You've actually watched a good amount of stuff. More than I'm actually used to seeing by people contacting me out of the blue (but those are mostly Youtube users so it's probably expected.) Do you also happen to collect any anime on DVD/blu-ray?
