Akira was a lot of fun to watch. The characters are reasonably interesting and the futuristic / rebuild "Neo-Tokyo" setting is quite good (although not unheard of these days, with all the futuristic / post-apocalyptic settings).
Giving a proper description of the story is a difficult feat. It's a combination of government conspiracies, ESP powers, motorbike-gangs, mystery and mindfuck. There was just so much going on! Long story short: I enjoyed it, laughed at the simple minded and yet highly successful gang leader, and thought the entire thing was build up pretty well. They could've easily made a 13-episode show out of this and still keep up a good pace. It´s definitely not a show to watch drowsy; good attention span required!
