Because the series is outstanding for the most part (while the last two episodes were badly executed, I appreciated the weird existentialist argument they made) but the movies are utter tripe. End of Evangelion is animation wizardry without any kind of coherence and wit, and the other one, the name of which I can't remember right now, is just a mish-mash of scenes from the series. What's the point?
I am however interested to see how they end the recent movies. I haven't followed them because they are simple copy-pastes from the original, but if I hear from others that they deliver a decent ending to finally round off the franchise, then I'll watch them for closure.
