Well I have to admit it's not every slice of life anime I dislike. Mainly when watching anime, I prefer the ones with fantasy elements in them. It doesn't have to be all too realistic to me. I also find slice of life anime - for most of the time - lacking the excitement and tension to keep me amused. I'll give you some examples of slife of life series I watched:

Usagi Drop: ranked as 15th best Anime on this site. While it deserves praise for its art style and characters, nothing ever happens in this Anime. It bored me to no end. No cliffhangers, no tension, ... In my review of it I stated: I can only guess that Usagi Drop has been that appealing to the large majority of viewers because it excels in realism, but that’s not what I’m looking for in an Anime. I’d rather watch the news if I ever feel the need for realism and getting bored.

Working!: It was more fun to watch than Usagi Drop. The characters all had their typical characteristics that always showed up throughout the series (like an everyday comedy serie, for instance). But the settings never changed, the story didn't show any development... you could easily skip five episodes and still nothing would've happened. I want my Anime to show some progress, and that's what most slice of life anime lack.

Welcome to the Nhk!: This was a slice of life anime I enjoyed. The story made me laugh a lot, there is actual progress and character development, we get to see a fine conclusion at the ending, the stories and backgrounds of the characters are so ridiculous you never take this show too seriously and the irony in this series is just priceless. And the furniture talks, so that's a plus :D

So in general, I don't dislike all of them, only the ones that are too realistic and serious. I watch anime to enjoy myself, to take a step outside of my everyday life, to be amused. I want to see some cliffhangers, plot twists, tension, and most of all: story development with a good ending. Most of that you rarely find in slice of life anime.
