My friend loves the original songs by Jin and every spinoff imaginable, so I decided to start reading the manga and watching the anime. Story: Let me get this out of the way: Despite being confusing at times, the story is not very complex, it is just rather convoluted. Multiple characters, drawn together because of their supernatural abilities related to sight (which are very inconsistent, more on that later), form a weird gang called the "Mekakushi Dan." There are hints at previous relationships of the characters and bad guys that pop up out of nowhere and love interests who might be in... See full review
I decided to read this manga because I saw how short it was. I thought that it would be a quick read, and I would use it as a way to pass the time. Haha, universe. You're so funny. Story: Fukurokouji Meguru's sister is dying of heart disease, and his fundraiser-gone-wrong has shattered his hopes. Desperate, he agrees to join a shady lottery-style game to earn the money to pay for his sister's procedure. Unfortunately, this is actually a high stakes game--survive psychological torture among ten other people for ten days, and you're rich! Lose, and you lose not only your mind, but your life. Oh, but the... See full review
"Onani" means "masturbation. "Masturbation Master Kurosawa." Now, about what do you think this manga will be? A parody of "Death Note," perhaps? Story: Kurosawa Kakeru has an interesting daily routine: He goes to a stall in the girls' bathroom and masturbates as he pretends to have violent sex with a random classmate. This is working quite well for him, but one day an antisocial girl discovers him in the stall. They talk, and it turns out that Kurosawa's passion for justice and righteousness is matched by the girl, only she believes that anyone she dislikes deserves to... See full review
I'm not the world's biggest food manga fan, and I'm not afraid to admit it. However, I decided to give this shoujo a try. Story: Kazami Najika, an orphan girl living at a wonderful little orphanage called Lavender House, is accepted into the elite section of a rich-kid school. She goes to the school in search of the boy who saved her and gave her a silver spoon--her "Flan Prince." At the school she meets more rude girls than the people Yagami Light kills... but she also meets a kind pretty boy and his tsundere-like brother. And, for half of the whole series, this is basically the... See full review
I don't know about you guys, but this is one heck of a title. Seriously, "Kill Me Kiss Me?" HELL YEAH! Story: The story in volume one is about a girl who learns that her idol goes to her school so she convinces her cousin to become her and she becomes him (she's now a guy and he's now a girl) so she can meet her idol. This is kind of pointless, because the rest of the volumes (two through five) revolve around a completely different story: Que-Min Ghun is a hot-headed former delinquent who can beat up any guy. She falls in love with Jung-Woo Im (the actual guy from scenario one) and vows to... See full review
I am mildly depressed right now—I was (stupidly) working on my review without saving it or anything when I clicked the wrong button and lost it. I will try to forget that I am pretty mad right now and will try to create a coherent review. Story: There’s a new game going around called “Rabbit Doubt.” It’s basically the same thing as the card game Mafia, except that a wolf replaces the mafia. The rabbits choose to hang one rabbit within their group. If the hanged rabbit is actually the wolf in disguise, they survive! If it’s just an innocent rabbit… yeah&hellip... See full review
"Teenagers scare the living sh*t out of me/They couldn't care less, as long as someone will bleed/So darken your cloaks or strike a violent pose/Maybe they'll leave you alone, but not me!" Story: Kamiyama Itsuki is just like any other high school student except for one itsy-bitsy little detail: He is obsessed with death. Morino Yoru is just like any other high school student except for [...] detail: She is obsessed with death. Yep, this is one of THOSE stories. The two of them have an odd relationship. Do they want to kill each other, kill themselves, kill everyone else, burn the world down... See full review
I love a good horror manga, so when I found this, I was ecstatic. Story: A weird urban legend has been circulating--a gothic lolita asks if you need a sister, and depending on your answer, strange things will happen to you. Itou Kazuki is taking out the trash one night when he sees a dirty girl sitting atop bags of garbage. He's mildly disturbed (who wouldn't be?) but goes on his merry way. The girl then asks if he needs a sister. I believe the correct answer would be "purple beanstalk." Unfortunately, Kazuki does not know that this is the correct answer (-.-'), and he has a sister. He tells... See full review
There are a lot of overrated manga in this world. Enter "Blue Exorcist" ("Ao no Exorcist"). Story: Okumura Rin is your typical teenage boy. However, an unfortunate event involving MOTHERF*CKING SATAN causes his adoptive father to die, and Rin to learn that he is the bastard offspring of Satan. He then starts to go to a school for exorcists (because typical shounen hero is going to save his friends and "kick Satan's ass!") and meets a bunch of characters along the way. (And his douchestreetcar of a brother is his teacher.) This sounds pretty cool and less generic than it... See full review
Is this my first one-shot manga review? Booyah! Story: Toshiki-kun is "inept," and cannot seem to do anything school-related particularly well. He's a little upset about it, but then he finds the "Ability Shop" (think Yuko-san's shop in "XxXHolic") and is able to be granted any ability. However, he loses some of his life span every time. Soon after, he's no longer viewed as worthless by his classmates, and he is happy. No spoilers (despite the fact that this is only a chapter long), but I will say that the ending is one of those "Let's eff up our moral and make this... See full review
The novel "Battle Royale" is an incredibly well-done character-driven survival story. Of course I wanted to read the manga! (A quick note: "Battle Royale" is one of those stories which is difficult to review without spoiling. Spoilers will be marked, though.) Story: In the Republic of Greater East Asia, there is a reality TV show called "The Program." On it, students fight to the death. Nanahara Shuya is a popular, rock-and-roll-loving student. One day, instead of having a class trip, his classmates and he learn that they are the newest participants in the "BR... See full review
Back when Tokyopop was the manifestation of Kami-sama (at least, in my mind), I saw a bunch of advertisements for an interesting manga called "Mugen Spiral." I finally got around to reading the damn thing only recently. Story: The premise sounds really good, if you're a fan of "InuYasha" or shoujo. (And there should be A LOT of people who fit that description). Suzuka Yaoyi is a teenager in a long, long, long, LOOOOOOONNNNNNNG line of family mystics. A million demons want her power, so they try to defeat her (but, unfortunately for them, Yaoyi always manages to find the Mew Aqua and... See full review
This is a review for Soumei Hoshino's reverse harem manga called "Alice in the Country of Smexy Bishounen." The Japanese name is "Smexy Bishounen no Kuni no Alice." It's supposed to be based off of Lewis Carroll's classic tale. I've read the original book and, well, this isn't very similar. Story: The story of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" has been retold many times and in many media. The animated Disney® movie is fantastical and lovable and probably one of my favorite movies (and is pretty faithful to the book). The one with Johnny Depp is a total letdown, and it's... I thought the "Darker than Black" anime was a kickass action show, so I was thrilled to find the manga (it came second, just saying). I eagerly read it, and can easily say... THEY TOTALLY EFFED UP THE ANIME! Story: There are basically two intertwining scenarios in the manga's two volumes. The first follows a young girl named Kana. Her dad is dead, but, one day, she sees him walking down the street. Kana is startled, but then is determined to find him once again. Her only lead is the name he said--"Klang." (At least, I THINK it's Klang. I don't really care.) She's strolling along... See full review
I reviewed the anime version of "Fruits Basket" a while ago, and I hate the low review I gave it. This being the first manga I continued after reading volume 1 (okay, it was actually volume 6, but shut up!), I truly love it. Here, to complement my review of the anime, is my review of the manga. Story: Honda Tohru is a goody-goody girl living on her own in the woods. After the tragic death of her mother and father, she was to live with her family. However, since she didn't want to burden them (and because their rude and inconsiderate of her feelings), she decided to make it on her own. So, she... See full review
If it isn't obvious, CLAMP seems to love their own work. The crossover manga of "Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle" and "XXXHolic" also includes plenty of past works. Story: Syaoran is good friends with the princess Sakura. However, something crazy happens and Sakura passes out. Syaoran meets the witch Ichihara Yuuko, and she tells him that Sakura has lost her memories. Yuuko will give Syaoran the power to cross worlds and collect these memories, but Sakura will forget her love for Syaoran. Syaoran, desperate, agrees. So now he travels the worlds with the wizard Fai and the samurai... See full review
Aha! Here we have yet another manga which falls victim to my "choose a random manga or anime and review it" strategy! Congratulations! Story: "Busou Renkin" (or however you want to spell it) is about a boy named Muto Kazuki. He is walking around one day (or whatever the hell he was doing) and is nearly killed by something. Well, actually, he IS killed, but a girl named Tsumura Tokiko gives him an artificial heart-thing and saves him. Kazuki is now able to fight, Shounen Jump style! (But that makes sense. T.T) If you have never read a shounen manga in your life, this story may sound... See full review
The epitome of sexy friendships, "Beast Master" is a short manga which has girls everywhere swooning. Story: Kubozuka Yuiko loves animals, but, unfortunately, suffers from Sakaki ("Azumanga Daioh") syndrome, so animals hate her. The persistent Yuiko won't give up, and she ends up meeting Aoi Leo. Leo is covered in blood and has feral-looking eyes... but Yuiko isn't afraid of him! Well, turns out Leo is a little like a beast, and Yuiko tames him (SPOILER ALERT XD). So, if the title didn't make it obvious, this is going to be a kind of S/M-type shoujo romance. Well, it's actually more of... See full review
Arakawa Hiromu's smash hit manga "Fullmetal Alchemist" inspired an anime series, a remake of the anime series, a few movies, and a sequel. So it should come as no surprise that this is perhaps one of the most popular anime/manga franchises of all time. Story: The story of "Fullmetal Alchemist" covers nearly every topic out there. The Elric brothers, Edward and Alphonse, are state alchemists working for the government. (Okay, that was kind of redundant.) Having lost an arm and a leg (Ed) or a whole body (Alphonse) in an attempt to resurrect their dead mother, the brothers set forth to... See full review
