11eyes

Jul 8, 2012

After hearing one of my favorite online reviewers worship this anime, I was practically tripping head over heels to watch it. Also, since it is difficult to review this anime without spoiling, I will include spoilers; however, they will be marked. And this review may contain some language... Story: "11eyes" starts off seeming like your typical slife-of-life: boy and girl are friends at school, but girl obviously is a little more friendly (cough cough wink) with boy. Satsuki Kakeru is said boy, and that girl is the little cutie-patootie named Minase Yuka. However, the story gets a bit weird when... See full review

Zombie-Loan

There are awful anime. There are excellent anime. There are bad anime. There are good anime. And then there are anime so average it's scary. Story: Kita Michiru has a good amount of frenemies at her Christian school. However, she has a secret--when she removes her Harry Potter glasses, she can see rings around people necks which signify how much time a person has left to live or if the person is already dead (Shinigami eyes?). She always wears the glasses so she won't have to see these horrible, horrible things. (Hello? If I had that power, then it would be awesome.) One day, she meets two boys who have... See full review

High School DxD

Sep 15, 2012

First and foremost: If ecchi is well-done, GREAT. If it is the whole effing plot, NOT GREAT. Story: Bosom. Breasts. Boobs. Tits. Ta-tas. Knock--OH SHUT UP. I'm sure there is more to this show than just THAT. There is--pantsu. Seriously though. The near-constant ecchi and nudity detracts from the REAL plot. A young pervert, Hyoudou Issei, is busy trying to simultaneously grope his classmates and look up their skirts when he finds a girl who wants to go out with him. This is suspicious in itself, but Issei is overjoyed at the fact that such a kind, charming girl (with large breasts) wants to be with him... See full review

Danganronpa: The Animation

Sep 7, 2013

Edits will be done in bold. My humble review of a show commonly known as "Dang it, Grandpa." (Shouldn't it be more like "Doggone Rumba?") Story: For people who have played the video game, this should be old news, but the story is that a young boy is invited to a school which he thinks is basically Ouran High. But, no, it is actually a death trap with a sadistic cartoony bear as its principal. There are a bunch of other people at the school who are equally surprised to hear that they are part of a game in which only those who get away with murder ("To tell the truth, I am... Corpse Party: Tortured Souls

Jan 19, 2014

DISCLAIMER: I have never played the original game, but I have watched a LP of it. Story: The story is typical fare--a bunch of highschoolers get shipped off to a creepy place dripping in atmosphere. Now what, pray tell, does this anime in particular do to make this interesting? Uh... Well, they do make it pretty scary... Truth be told, this is one of those anime that will, at times, manage to make you pause the episode, turn on all the lights, and keep watching. However, "at times" refers to about two or three scenes in the entire anime. The anime does really well when it ups its already... See full review

Btooom!

Oct 30, 2012

Edits will be done in bold. One day, the world decided what we really need is another "Battle Royale" rip-off. Story: Sakamoto Ryouta is good at an online game called BTOOOM! Actually, he's very good. Actually, he's superb. Actually, he is so good he is unable to recognize a TIME BOMB. The antisocial guy finds himself on an island, where he discovers a few supplies and nothing else. He is confused, but drinks all of his tea because it apparently makes you less confused. He looks at his hand, sees a gemstone, and realizes this is like BTOOOM!. He looks in his pouch and finds little cubes... See full review

BLAME!

Jul 25, 2012

It's not often one comes across an anime with a total run time of half an hour. "BLAME!" fits this description quite nicely. At six episodes, each running for five minutes, it should be interesting and pretty weird, right? Well, that was right on the money. Story: Can I explain the story of "BLAME!"? Not really; there is no story. According to Anime-Planet's plot summary, Kirii (you spell that however you want) is a human who is surrounded by androids and clones. He is supposed to collect "net-genes" and try to find remaining humans. Whoever wrote this summary must be A.)... See full review

Kaze no Stigma

Jul 21, 2012

"Kaze no Stigma" ("Stigma of the Wind") is GONZO's animation of the light novel series. Unfortunately, the creator of the light novels passed away, thus abruptly ending them. We thank the creator for the series and hope he/she rests in peace. Story: Ayano, heir to the mighty fire magic-using Kannagi family, gets a major shock when her cousin returns after a long absence. Due to the fact that he was unable to wield fire magic, Kannagi Kazuma (now Yagami [heh heh] Kazuma) was exiled. However, he is now able to harness the powers of the wind, another element entirely. Black Lagoon

Jul 11, 2012

I recently finished this anime, so I decided to review it. That is all. Story: I'll just be repeating the summary on this site, so I'll make it brief: Your typical Japanese adult man gets kidnapped and stuck on a boat with a potty-mouthed, hot-headed young woman; a black guy who may as well be the one in every stereotype out there; and the geek who lives next to his computer. Our typical Japanese adult male joins his kidnappers, and then sh*t gets serious and stuff starts exploding. The unoriginal (and ridiculous) nature lowers the score of the story, but let's admit it: It sounds freaking... See full review

Another

Jul 2, 2012

Story: While I found the story gripping, it most certainly has been done before. It seems like most horror anime nowadays copy the "Higurashi" formula of "boy moves to new town" idea. On the other hand, the deaths were unique... but also very over-the-top (kind of like "Battle Royale," minus the guns). I didn't mind; I found it kept the story interesting, but you might disagree. Animation: The art designs for the characters, overall, is nice: idealized, pretty character designs. However, the characters themselves look pretty generic: sure, they have natural hair... Amnesia

Aug 8, 2013

I just deleted this review partway through writing it. I have to learn. Story: One day a girl wakes up not remembering anything. A floating harlequin appears before her and claims to know everything about her. And instead of doing the logical thing like blaming the events on LSD or something, Heroine (we never get her name—more on that later) believes what Orion (that’s Pennywise the Clown gone shota) tells her. Oh, and before I go any further in ripping this show to threads, it is based off of an OTOME GAME. OTOME GAME. OTOME GAME. OTO—don’t make me say it again. Basically... See full review

Devil May Cry

Dec 16, 2012

MY MONTHLY MARATHON ENTRY! Now, just to be fair, I have never played the "Devil May Cry" videogames. I would probably have a different view of this anime if I have played them, but this is my anime-only review. Story: Dante owns the titular shop, a shop that does anything if there is money to pay for it. His general lifestyle is sleeping, eating strawberry sundaes and pizza, and being flat-out broke and in chronic debt. When he isn't doing this, his is dealing with one of the most annoying children in anime, or he is fighting demons. Actually, it's less a fight, and more a massacre on any poor... See full review

Code:Breaker

Dec 2, 2012

I started watching this anime later than most of the other fall 2012 ones, but fear not! I shall update as I catch up! Story: While nothing we haven't heard before, "Code:Breaker" breaks the generic shounen mold by making the lead a girl. Whoopdeedoo, what a concept! Bitchmeister Sakurakouji Sakura (what kind of a name is that?) is adored by all, but is nonchalant about this and just goes on with life. That it, until she sees a boy burn to death a few men. Instead of running for the hills like she should, she swears to stalk this boy (who just so happens to now go to her school) and stop... See full review

PSYCHO-PASS

Nov 24, 2012

Yet another anime of the fall 2012 season. Story: The story of "Psycho-pass" is a bit difficult to explain, because the initial premise is more of a background than an actual storyline. Tsunemori Akane, a young woman living in a sci-fi version of (what is probably) Japan, becomes a police woman/detective/mediator and is whisked away into the dangerous underground world of the police force. The official gun of the show is specially designed to eliminate only criminals, who are identified by their psycho-passes. Most of the police force, and the people under Tsunemori's loose control, are actually... See full review

K

Nov 18, 2012

Edits will be done in bold. My most anticipated anime of the fall 2012 season... Story: Isana "Shiro" Yashiro is blamed for murder after his doppelganger is seen shooting a man in a recorded video. Shiro believes he is innocent, but since the public always believes in a viral video, Shiro practically receives the death sentence. Ooh, me next. Hmm… “Gangnam Style” must mean that all Koreans are perverts who dance at the most random moments, right? Moving past that slight plot hole is the actual “plot.” Unfortunately, what initially looks like an awesome... See full review

Le Portrait de Petit Cossette

Oct 28, 2012

I was going to try to find an art quote, but screw it. Story: Kurahashi Eiri is just like any other young man out there. Well, except for two things: 1. He has a fancy glass goblet with some gothic loli... ta... cons in it. 2. He has a bunch of women who love him for some reason. The former is probably more important, especially since that's basically the gist of it. Cossette (really? She has a last name?) is a young doll-girl with blonde hair and pale skin who, somehow, ends up befriending/S&Ming Eiri. Yep, you saw it coming: Absolutely nil is explained properly in "Le Portrait de Petit... See full review

Black Butler 2

Sep 30, 2012

The first season of "Kuroshitsuji" ("Black Butler") was pretty damn cool. I don't normally like episodic shows, but the random escapades were balanced by enough serious arcs to make it work. Not to mention, the humor was chuckle-inducing, the darkness was great, the guys were h-o-t, and some of the characters were flamboyant and fabulous (I'm looking at you, Grell-sama). And then they had to go and add some bitches and eff up the whole franchise. Story: Little Blonde Slut and his demon butler, Sebastian 2.0, have a war to the death with our original protagonists. And a prostitute... See full review

Deadman Wonderland

Aug 13, 2012

"Deadman Wonderland," a newer anime which aired on "Toonami," combines torturous prison sentences with an entertaining amusement park. Need I say more? Story: Igarashi Ganta is living the normal life of the Japanese schoolboy: He plays with his friends, blushes around his crush, and eats ice cream. He's happy living his average life, and never expects anything more. The latest craze is a cool amusement park known as "Deadman Wonderland." Two of the workers are examining her, and one accidentally drops a key within two meters of her. Aw, f-- The two men are quickly killed, and Lucy escapes, completely naked except for her helmet. Future Diary

Aug 3, 2012

When it was released in 2011, "Mirai Nikki" (I'm not going to bother with the "TV") became a smash-hit. Practically everyone was praising the survival-horror anime. I never got into it; I don't know why, it just never managed to catch my interest. But when an anime I was watching didn't work, I switched over to episode 1 of "Mirai Nikki." I was hooked, and before I knew it, I had seen more than a third of the series. So it really pains me to say how much it disappointed me. Shiki

Jul 30, 2012

Vampires have gotten a bad rap lately. First and foremost, we've got that "Twishite Saga" crap trying to pass off as good writing. And then we've got the movies, which are even worse. (Though I must say, props to Kristen Stewart for managing to portray only one facial expression for the whole series.) There are those "Vampire Diaries" books which started out okay, but which are now just "Twishite" with a less funny name. Even anime! "Vampire Knight" is by no means an awful manga/anime combo, but it's far from great and isn't doing the horror genre surrounding... See full review

When They Cry: Higurashi

Jul 26, 2012

Before I started to watch anime, I was scared of anything and everything. So then, I picked up my first volume of manga--one of the earlier volumes of "Bleach." I was so terrified, I couldn't even look at "Bleach" for a few years. So I decided to overcome my fears and watch a horror anime (horror manga would come later). I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep, but I didn't want to be such a wimp. Therefore, I started to watch the only horror anime of which I'd heard. I missed the first episode, so I watched the second. Darker than Black

Jul 25, 2012

There are many "mature" anime out there. There are many dark anime. There are many depressing anime. With some of them, the name makes them seem innocent (case in point: "Comedy"). "Darker than Black" sounds like a dark anime... seriously, what IS darker than black? As with most anime I watch, I saw this in an AMV and it looked cool, so I decided to watch it. Story: A dome encases the world of "Darker than Black," so the sky is completely fabricated. PRESENT DAY. PRESENT TIME. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-- Story: Iwakura Lain lives in the present, where the Wired (the internet) is a popular place to be. Of course, no one is foolish enough to associate the Wired with the real world, no. But when Lain receives an email from a girl who recently committed suicide, Lain starts to change. Soon, she starts to see no difference between the real world and the Wired--but is that really a bad thing? "Serial Experiments Lain" practically pioneered the "mindf*ck" genre. Umineko: When They Cry

Jul 22, 2012

When "Higurashi no Naku Koro ni" became the horror anime hit of the century, the "reset" storyline and crazy bloodshed became well known. So another VN, "Umineko no Naku Koro ni" followed. It has the same style, but became less popular and isn't as well-recieved. Story: The Ushiromiya family is invited to join the head of the family at his mansion on an island. They gather and enter the enviable house. There is a picture of Kinzo's (he's the head of the family) former mistress, Beatrice. However, rumor has it she's a witch-- the Golden Witch, to be precise. Maid-sama!

Jul 21, 2012

As far as school life/maids/tsundere romances go, not many are well-recieved. School life embodies boerdom, maids sound like ecchi or borderline hentai, and tsundere characters tend to be hated by many. The tags for "Kaichou wa Maid-sama!" include these... so how on Earth is this anime so popular?! Story: Ayuzawa Misaki spends her school life as the tough student council president, and the rest of her time working at a popular maid cafe. Ghost Hunt

Jul 20, 2012

Once upon a time, there was this new show on Cartoon Network called "The Othersiders." It was about a group of kids who went to haunted places, trying to decide whether or not spirits really resided there. The show was not actually scary, it was more the suspense (and heavy breathing of those poor middle schoolers) which made it creepy. Why do I mention this? Because... Story: ... Black Butler

Jul 19, 2012

I, like 99.99% of the people who watched this show, watched it because Sebastian is pretty damn hot. Luckily, this show is more than just a bishie-fest... kind of. Story: Phantomhive Ciel, a child who just so happens to be the owner of a toy company, lives an extravagant life in Victorian England. He has a household of servants, most of whom cannot do anything servant-like. However, there is that "one hell of a butler"-butler, Michaelis Sebastian. Comedy

Jul 16, 2012

I decided to watch this because it's only 10 minutes and it earned high scores, for the most part. Plus, I'm kind of a sucker for obscure anime and manga. Story: A young girl tells of her meeting with the black swordsman, a mysterious man who loves to read books. That's really the gist of it, but it is very well-executed. Actually, it would be well-executed even if this wasn't 10 minutes long. Since it is, it is freaking incredible. Animation: A feast for the eyes. Plus, I've been wanting to watch "Blood+" for a while. Story: Saya is a woman. She kills these creatures with a sword. She then goes to a school near an army base... and... um...
