A list of sad moments in anime (and maybe manga, too). If it isn't obvious from the title, this will contain spoilers, and many of them. This growing list should contain a bunch of anime ranging from depressing anime to not-so-depressing-but-with-sad-moments anime. You can see the list in the tags, and ALL of those anime will be spoiled, except if a rare thing happens and the death/or other sad moment is spoiler-y (don't count on this, though.)
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. So don't say you were spoiled, okay?
This is in no particular order, and I may order it later with a list. Since this is (most likely) a growing blog post, ordering it would be tedious. Click the damn fullscreen button.
Oh yeah, and (SPOILER ALERT FOR THE ANIME "CLANNAD!") I have never seen "Clannad," (or the second one, or whatever!) so don't you dare say, "Waah, but Nagisa's death was so SAD!" Maybe it is, but I've never seen the anime! (END SPOILER!)
Naoto and Naoya's backstory ("Night Head Genesis"). Gosh, I just started this anime and already found this. Here you go. A video of the first few minutes of the anime. How would YOU like to be thrown out of your own house?
Hatori erases Kana's memories ("Fruits Basket"). As my first manga, "Fruits Basket" holds a special place in my heart. Hatori's backstory made me tear up when I first read it. Basically, his lover, Kana, finds out about his secret (he's under the zodiac curse). She is completely accepting, which makes him feel true happiness (he was unhappy until meeting her). Unfortunately, Akito wounds his eye and Kana goes into grief, thinking it's her fault. Seeing her destroying herself, Hatori makes the decision to erase her memories of him. (About the video, I couldn't find any non-AMVs, so here's an AMV of it.)
Kanon and Jessica's deaths ("Umineko no Naku Koro ni"): Perhaps my second favorite pairing in the show. Her sacrifice is so touching and their little talk was heartwrenching. And, no, nobody uploaded a non-AMV.
Satoko's torture and death ("Higurashi no Naku Koro ni"). Despite the high number of gory scenes in the anime, Satoko's resilience and maturity in this one really struck me as being the saddest. Rika's suicide takes a close second. (Yes, this is the censored version; the uncensored one is dubbed, and the "Higurashi" dub kind of sucks.)
The annihilation of the Uchiha clan ("Naruto"). Even though Sasuke becomes a little too depressed because of this, it's still pretty sad. (This is an AMV.)
Havoc's death ("Darker than Black"). I had a hellish time choosing between her and Yuka's father's death. Ah, well. (This is yet another AMV.)
Maes Hughes's death and funeral ("Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood"). Oh... this is on everyone's list, really. When I read it in the manga, I practically bawled my eyes out. And yet I cannot bring myself to hate Envy. (The funeral video is an AMV-sort of thing.)
Kanae's death ("Elfen Lied"). As the saddest anime I've seen, I had some decisions to make. The dog scene is in second, but Kanae's tears just pierce my heart. I don't care about the herp-derp dad, though. (Sucks how the dub is inferior to the subbed version, but get over it. Also, this may be considered disturbing, as with, you know, most of the anime.)
L's death ("Death Note"). An obvious choice, but it really had to happen. Watari's death is pretty sad, too.
Shimizu Megumi's "death" ("Shiki"). The irony in this is that she'd been dead for a while; that's why I put quotation marks in the title. Sure she was kind of a bitch, and was incredibly shallow, but something THIS gruesome and painful? Also, considering how obsessed with looks she was, this is even more ironic. (In case you're wondering what she's saying, it's something like this [I don't speak Japanese, but this is the gist of it]: She's never liked the tiny, unfashionable village, and has always wanted to move to the big city. She wasn't planning on staying; actually, she was on her way to the city. If they'd just let her go, she would never bother them again. However, and this is me, NicoNicoDesu, speaking, if they let her go, everything would happen again. She would have to feast on blood and turn others into shiki, causing a repeat of what happened in this village.)
I'll add more later; my computer's starting to lag. Ugh.
