Hataraki Man

Dec 9, 2019

Hataraki Man follows the everyday life of Hiroko, a hot-headed, workaholic woman who works in a weekly magazine, and is as good at her job as she’s bad at managing her love life.  Each episode focuses on a task given to her and how she manages to get it done, usually sharing the spotlight with certain key characters (like salesman Chiba in episode 8). For a show made in the 2000’s decade the art and animation sure is good. I especially liked how each character has very distinguishable features, making it easier to tell apart each other. The animation The soundtrack of this show is fine... See full review

How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?

Sep 22, 2019

From the creator of Kengan Ashura comes Do You Even Lift, Girl? "How Heavy Are the Dumbbells You Lift?"; an anime that will make you want to stop being a couch potato, hit the closest gym you have and do your best to get more ripped than Barnold Shortsinator Arnold Schwarzenegger. SAIDO CHESTO! There's not much to say about the story in this show since it's premise is fairly simple and it's not really a story-driven show. It follows the trials and tribulations of Hibiki, a highschool girl who noticed she was getting... See full review

Rosario + Vampire Capu2

Jul 9, 2019

As many might know Gonzo is known for making a few really good shows; some decent stuff; a bunch of mediocre to bad anime; and Rosario + Vampire Capu2, a show so bad it inspired Miyazaki to state that “anime was a mistake”. Right from the start you can tell this show must have been some sort of bad, late april fools joke directed to the manga fans because about ¾ of the anime are bad filler. The worst offender is the 8th episode, which is just 22 minutes of bunch of unfunny short sketches. There’s also next to no progression or character development until the last ¼ of... Kirara

Mar 8, 2019

Kirara is an OVA that has caught my attention a few months ago because of its original concept (and because I’m a sucker for ovas/series from the 80s), but it turned out to not live by my expectations. Wanna know why? Then go ahead and keep reading. The show tells the story of Kirara, a 24 year old girl who dies in a car accident on the day of her wedding and is sent 8 years back, when she and her future husband hasn’t started dating yet. On paper it sounds good, but the execution left a lot to be desired since they tried to cram way too much content in too little time. It’s especially... See full review

Mecha-Ude

Jan 16, 2019

Everyone who knows me knows I have a soft spot for crowdfunded anime (among other things). Mecha-Ude in particular got me interested on it since I found about it, and once it was available I couldn’t help but watch it immediately. But, did it live up to my overblown hype? Keep reading if you want to find it out! The story is the typical stuff you find in a shounen. While it wasn’t bad by any means it was quite predictable and not even the twist manages to be surprising (in fact, you can see it coming from miles away). This also affects the characters because most of them are walking stereotypes... See full review

Lord El-Melloi II's Case Files {Rail Zeppelin} Grace note - A Grave Keeper, a Cat, and a Mage

Jan 3, 2019

Anyone familiar with the Fate franchise knows that it has way too many spin-offs and they should stop milking it once and for all. As if getting different iterations of the same story, a cooking anime, or a magical girl show that’d make anyone look at the viewer with disgust wasn’t enough now we got a mystery show featuring Lord El-Melloi II in which he has to solve different cases and fend off any mage that might go after his own... Sequence

Jan 2, 2019

There are some shows that we can’t help to hype for some reason or another, be it because of its visuals or a renowned staff behind the show, which turns out to be a disappointment. Sequence is one of those cases but, what could have gone wrong with this OVA? Let’s start with the positive bits of this show, the art and animation was really good. Animation was really fluid and both the backgrounds and the characters’ design are pretty even by today’s standards. This OVA looked better than a lot of the stuff we get nowadays, even if it is more than 25 years old! The soundtrack was... See full review

Dies irae

Dec 29, 2017

Have you ever wondered what happened if someone took the concept of nazis trying to cause the end of the world from Hellsing Ultimate and tried to play it as straight as possible? If you didn’t, then let me tell you this show is a perfect example of how that’d turn out and why is a really, really bad idea. If I had to describe the plot with just one word that'd be "messy". The story is pretty much an incoherent string of ideas that barely make any sense. Why do the nazis nutzis want to open the 8 swastikas that'd lead to the end of the world? No one knows becuase the... See full review

Rosario + Vampire

Dec 24, 2017

From the masterminds in Gonzo comes this err… “deep, thought-provoking” tale of a high-schooler named Tsukune who didn’t manage to get marks high enough to enter his high-school of choice but, due to unforeseen circumstances, he ends up in a high-school for youkais! As if that wasn’t enough for him he has to hide the fact he’s a human from his peers or else he might end up dead (good thing the school has the convenient rule that every youkai must keep his human form in the school grounds). At least for him he befriends a vampire girl who happens to be uber-powerful and... See full review

Scum's Wish

Sep 4, 2017

Anybody who knows me well is aware that I’m attracted to dark stories in the same way a bear is attracted to honey, or Thrawn to anything lewd and/or related to Popee the Performer. That said, after reading the synopsis of this show (and hearing that it’s somewhat similar to Aku no Hana, another show I liked) I just had to check it out. Scum’s Wish tells us the story of Hanabi, a high schooler who fell in love with her teacher and childhood friend Narumi, who meets a classmate named Mugi who also fell in love with another teacher. After some time getting to know each other they decide... See full review

Ao Oni The Animation Movie

May 29, 2017

From the deepest pits of DEEN's hell comes Ao Oni - The Animation, a movie which has the dubious honor of being the worst thing DEEN has ever made (and it looks like it'll remain that way for a while). The movie features a group of students who are investigating the story of Ao Oni for a school project and, a few hours later, they learnt he hard way there's a monster in the school and they are trapped inside with no way out. Judging from this one would think this is going to be a snoozefest... and they'll be right. The first half of the movie is really dull and feels like it's thrice as long while the... See full review

Kemono Friends

Apr 16, 2017

Kemono Friends is a CG anime that aired back in Winter 2017 and turned out to be the sleeper hit of the season but, was it really that good or it just succeeded for some unforeseeable reason? The show is about Bag-chan, a little girl who’s lost in the middle of a giant park and surrounded by anthropomorphic animals. There she meets Serval and then the duo starts an adventure to the library to learn what animal she’s supposed to be. It’s kinda unclear what’s the target audience of this show. On one hand this is a cute animal girls doing cute things show, but on the other it airs... See full review

The Asylum Session

Mar 2, 2017

The Asylum Session is a movie done by Comix Wave which tells the story of Hiyoko. A girl who ran away from home because her father forbade her from becoming an artist (awesome parenting by the way!) and ended up in an abandoned stadium where she met a bunch of artists with different motivations. Concept-wise is interesting since it's not a theme that's usually tackled, but the execution was disastrous. The movie ends up being an insipid dreck that will put even the most enthusiastic viewer asleep. On top of it even the action scenes towards the end are dull! Like the plot, the characters are... Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi.

Feb 26, 2017

Adaptations from otome games suck more often than not, but when an abusive relationship is added to the mix then there’s basically no hope for the show. Kuro to Kin no Akanai Kagi is far from being an exception to this rule but, how much did it suck? This show is about a hikikomori who, after having a weird dream, decides to leave her room and go outside. So far there’s nothing out of the ordinary, but shortly after she’s approached by a creepy hairdresser who offers to cut her hair for free. Anybody with a little bit of common sense or sense of self-preservation would have run away from... See full review

Aki no Kanade

Feb 11, 2017

Aki no Kanade is a movie which was released back in 2015 for the Anime Mirai Tamago project, and also is one of those cases where you can’t judge a book by its cover. First things first, the concept of this anime is quite original. There’s no other show that tackled the concept of becoming a taiko drummer. The execution could have been better though. It’s true you can’t do much more with 22 minutes but it tries to shove much in too little time and, while important bits are handled nicely, the time-skips can get a bit jarring. The animation was on par with the standard of these... See full review

Robot Girls Z

Feb 4, 2017

Robot Girls Z is a short comedy that many would disregard based on its name and or looks (that’s it when they aren’t wondering if it’s related to Dragon Ball Z) but, is it really as bad as it looks? Like in many shows of this kind, there’s almost any plot and instead there’s plenty of slapstick comedy to fill the voids. Some shows manage to compensate the lack of plot with interesting characters; a good sense of humor; and/or a proper pace, but that’s not the case of Robot Girls Z. All the characters in this show are forgettable at best, most of the jokes are unfunny to... See full review

The Great Passage

Dec 28, 2016

At first glance one could disregard Fune wo Amu due to how unappealing the topic of the show is, but somehow the show turns out to be quite interesting. Surprised? keep reading to know why. The show tells the story of Majime Mitsuya as he becomes a part of the team on charge of making "The Great Passage", a medium-sized dictionary. As dull as it might sound the show manages to keep the viewers interested by giving more relevance to the interactions between the characters, and it even manages to introduce a romance subplot which flows naturally without ruining the pace. Many shows attempt to do... See full review

Katanagatari

Dec 25, 2016

Katanagatari is the adaptation of one of the novels written by NisiOisin, the creator of the well-received Bakemonogatari (surprising, isn't it? /s). As expected this show has plenty of dialogue and exposition (bordering on Seinfeldian Conversation from time to time) which is mostly used to add some depth to a very simple premise. In any other show this could have worked fine, but given Katanagatari is an action show this doesn't benefit it much. Of course when you have a show that relies on giving huge amounts... Kowabon

Jul 8, 2016

Short shows tend to be overlooked and they are usually underrated just because their episodes aren't longer than 15 minutes, leaving some hidden gems among the trash. Is Kowabon one of those gems or does it actually deserve it's average rating? Kowabon's episode not only are 3 minutes long but the series itself is episodic, which means there's not much room to develop a story. As if that wasn't enough, the episodes are so formulaic you can predict what's going to happen in the episode right after watching the first 30 seconds of it. Also in all the episodes technology is involved (as well as the... See full review

Jul 7, 2016

When I started this movie I had little to no expectations since I haven't heard of it at all and the average rating made me expect a mediocre movie at best, but little did I know that what I actually found was a surprisingly good movie.   Asura is a dark tale that takes place in medieval Japan during a severe famine and people is desperate for food. Enter Asura, a child who was almost eaten alive by his mother when he was a baby, and soon after abandoned. 8 years later he's shown as a child fiercer than any beast  who would try to eat anything to survive; birds, rats, and even other... Jan 21, 2016

I started watching this series on a whim because it was short and needed something to watch while on the bus, which aren't long enough to let me watch a full length episode properly. Like any series that's 4 minutes long, it suffers a lot in the story department due to it's length and the characters aren't well developed. Of course not everything was bad or below average, the animation was quite pretty and the characters were well drawn. Also the voice acting helped to make them look even cuter (the twins are so cute Rena Ryuuguu would want... See full review

Inugami-san to Nekoyama-san

Jan 8, 2016

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a sucker for Shoujo-ai/yuri series and I'm attracted to this genre as much as a bear is attracted to honey, or a fujoshi to yaoi. After getting to know this anime I decided that I wasn't going to just watch it but also review it! So here I am, leaving my impressions about this anime. As expected from a show whose episodes are no longer than 4 minutes (which also happens to be an adaptation of a 4-koma) there's not much story, just enough to get the setting ready and let the characters do the rest. Speaking of the... Black Rock Shooter OVA

Jan 8, 2016

Back when I started this OVA in 2010 I wondered whether this was going to be a good OVA or just an excuse to cash in on Black★Rock Shooter's popularity. Curious to know what I thought about it? Then go ahead and continue reading. This OVA had the potential to be a good one, but it had some very big issues that made me not enjoy it. For starters the plot is very confusing. Why is Black Rock Shooter fighting Dead Master? What is their relation with those middle school student? What's going on? None of those questions get answered and instead the viewer is left puzzled. Yuru Yuri

Dec 24, 2015

Secret Santa 2015 Review I've been planning to watch this show for a long time ad the event was the final push I needed to start watching it. Here's what I thought about it: Yuru Yuri is basically a "cute girls doing cute things" kind of show, which means there's no overarching plot and it ultimately depends on the characters and their hijinks. Sadly it takes a lot of time to actually get funny (in my case I started to enjoy it from episode 6 onward). To make matters worse, the mood changed completely in the penultimate episode and added some unnecessary drama that didn't last... See full review

Pretear

Secret Santa 2014 review Pretear is a story about Himeno Awayuki, a girl whose father has remarried a rich woman, and is rejected by her stepsisters. As if that wasn’t enough for her she meets the Liefe knights and learns she’s a Pretear, a magical girl whose duty is to help the aforementioned knights preventing Fenrir to absorb the life energy of all the living things. It follows a monster of the week formula for half its duration, which for me was the worst part of the series, until the plot starts to thicken and we start to learn more and more about the characters, as well as Fenrir’s... The episodic structure of the series makes it a bit repetitive, since the only thing that changes in the episodes are the job, the girls and the circumstances around them.  That doesn’t mean it’s boring, actually it’s quite... Secret Santa 2012 Review I have been thinking on watching this for a while, but I either procrastinated on doing it or I jurt wasn't in the mood for it. That's until someone rec'd me to watch it in the Secret Santa event, which gave me a reason to watch it, and I'm glad I did it. Story: When one read Chobits’ premise the first thing one thinks is that it’s your typical anime where the pervert male lead finds a woman who ends up living in his house. Aug 26, 2011

Story:  It's plot is almost non existant and it's just an excuse to show fights, fights and more fights. It can be summed up by saying "an evil organization goes after the participants of a martial arts contest, and then the participants join forces and suceed at defeating the organization" without missing any important detail (and it's not a spoiler becuase it's totally predictable). Animation and sound: Despite being the strongest point of the OVA, the animation was mediocre. The music is pretty much forgettable.  Characters: As you can imagine after reading the story part... I watched this movie some months ago, so I'd probably miss some details on this review. I haven't read the manga so I'm no going to compare it with the manga (which as far as I know is better than the movie). Story I found the story quite interesting and well executioned. The plot revolves about a virus called "Medusa" which almost instantly petrifies it's victims. A big pharmaceutical company gives the chance to 160 people to survive by freezing their bodies and waking them up several years after. When they wake up they find that everything has been taken over by monsters, and they have to... See full review
