My first interaction with anime was in July of 1997. I was up late one night after finishing 6th grade, about to move to a new place. I saw Beautiful Dreamer and Galaxy Express 999 the movie on Sci-Fi channel. I guess that was the moment that changed my life forver :)
Now I'm in the Navy. I have one daughter with a son on the way. I plan on getting out of the Navy sometime in the next 5 years to persue a degree in Japanese Linguistics, along with whatever other stuff I feel like studying at the time.
I've recently been thinking more and more about Masamune Shirow's works and their significance in real near-future life; my current profession as an electronics technician may serve as the medium needed for the inspiration acquired from his works to guide me into the cybernetics field of study.
I feel that Japanese music has had a profound impact on my interests and my life also. Utada Hikaru and Yoko Kanno have been my two most listened to artists. I listen to a variety of Japanese music though, such as Melt Banana, and some late '80s punk metal that I picked up off the net.
I'm not sure why Japanese media and the culture that I've thus far been exposed to has had such an influence on my interests. I don't think I need to know why, although people often ask, and I don't have an answer for them.
Hopefully I will find what I've been looking for all these years when I've finally put it all together.
