This is me. I've just started watching anime, mainly becouse of my interest in non-american animation movies. I like animation movies and series that seperates themselves from the american childish themes, and deals with something more important(in my opinion). I'm not very into anime yet, but know a lot about experimental animation for adults from France, Germany, Czech Rep. and Russia.

Yes, I heard Naked City by John Zorn. It's pretty cool, but not my genre... I prefer atmospheric music. But there is one album I like from them: Absinthe. And for Mike Patton, I like Delirium Cordia from his Fantomas project.

Me too I'll leave you a note of how I liked your recommendations.

I like Dodheimsgard (especially 666 International) and Boris (Feedbacker is really good!) :P but Shining, a bit less... I you like Dodheimsgard, I would recommand you Ved Buens Ende (post black metal, really good) and for Boris, Asva is very good (experimental drone/doom metal by Stephen O'Malley (Sunn O)))) and a lot of other musicians with trumpet I think...)

I see that you put a lot movies, music and books on your profile, it will be a great list to discover new things, thanks :P

If you like experimental music, try these ones: Älymystö, Andrew Liles, Bo Hansson, Cyclobe, Death Ambient, The Gray Field Recordings, Irr. App. (Ext.), Mimir, Nurse With Wound, Organum, Randy Greif, Volcano The Bear, Teatr Yada... Some of my favourites :P

If you like a bit of metal, dark ambient and/or neofolk, I could also recommand you some bands if you want. ^_^

Thank you. I'll give another chance to Svankmajer for sure (I just have a bit of difficulty with his films that there is no music...). And well, I know a lot of Japanese surreal animation, but like you, I'm new to surreal animation outside of Japan. I listed somes movies to check someday not a very long time ago (didn't have the time to check most of them), but this list included Begotten, Santa Sangre, The Blood Of A Poet and many others like Last Year at Marienbad, etc. I watched the beginning of Begotten, but I was a bit bored after a time and didn't finish it yet. I didn't really like the "music" and the art, but it was somewhat interesting. And I like Delicatessen a lot, and I'll check the other movies you recommended for sure! I don't know Rune Grammofon, but I'll check it and I probably came across some experimental norvegian music as I like a lot of experimental music.

Thanks again!

And you should check Ryan Larkin with his psychedelic animation "Street Musique". There is also Alexandre Petrov with "Le vieil homme et la mer" that is impressive, even if it's not surrealist.
