Nodame Cantabile: Finale

Mar 30, 2010

Intro...Nodame Cantabile: Finale brings about the end of story of Chiaki and Nodame.  Having each had various successes in their lives, they finally have to work out just how they are going to go on in life.Story: 8.5It's unique and lovely to find that the Nodame Cantabile storyline still runs true throughout these final 11 episodes.  While it has the true entertaining factor that we've come to love from these series, it does however appear to run out of steam and wraps the story up in such a way that you really feel as though you've been cheated out of what you were expecting.  Don't get me... Himitsu: The Revelation

Jan 3, 2010

Intro...The development of MRI (Memory Resonance Imaging) has led to a whole new method of investigating crimes.  Section 9 uses the brains of the deceased victims to find out exactly who or what caused the deaths of the person.Story: 6.2I must admit that I was intrigued by the idea of looking into peoples brains once they've died.  The concept, while incredibly unrealistic, does create a solid foundation plot which continues throughout the series.  Its strange to see how the crimes can be solved from the victims viewpoint.  While this strong permise continues throughout the series, it... The Garden of Sinners Movie 1: Thanatos. (Overlooking View)

Jan 3, 2010

Intro...Shiki can see the lines of death on all objects, with her eyes of 'death perception'.  Cue the start of 7 films, each exploring an aspect of her life.Story: 10Made up of 7 films, even after having watched the first one (and loved it) I was surprised and delighted to find that another 6 were lined up.  I mean, I watched them as they were being released over the years and yet I've felt that every single one of the individual film adds something or builds upon the gentle plot woven throughout the films, and still manages to make each one individual, with its own sense of self.  The story... Xam'd: Lost Memories

Dec 24, 2009

Intro...A chance encounter changed a boys life forever as he was entrusted with the power to protect the world.Story: 10I think that this should get some special credit for this section.  Not only was the story original to make it unpredictable as to what was about to happen, but it was the first series where I didn't feel as though I was watching episodes.  Skillfully woven, the entire story was delivered in such a way that it was more like watching a Studio Ghibi film where every single second of it drew you into the enchanting world, making it seem that as you were watching, the story was... School Days

Nov 1, 2009

Intro...Boy loves a girl he sees on train...his friend helps him set them up.  Then decides she loves him as cheats on said girl.  Then it all goes barmy.Story: 5This story had more potential than I've seen in most other anime, yet somehow it fails to deliver upon this promise.  The first half of the series was encapsulating, drawing you into the plotline and if I was to describe it, then it would be like you cut yourself and someone had just pour lemon juice on it.  I mean, it really made you feel for the characters involved and twisted the knife to get some more raw feeling out it... Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence

Oct 30, 2009

Intro... 3 years after the disappearance of Motoko, Batou is assigned with Togusa to investigate a string of murders by sexaroids, female androids created for sex. What they find is a series of events delving deeper into the world of man-machine interface than ever before. Story: 5 To put it simply, Innocence is nowhere near the same level of storytelling as the first Ghost in the Shell film and to some people, this may come as a massive disappointment.  However, I felt that although the film was somewhat lacking in the plot department, there was enough of it that the same quality of... His and Her Circumstances

Oct 30, 2009

Intro... Being the number 1 student in her school, Yukino is incredibly vain.  So much so, that she actively goes out of her way, to keep her image as perfect student at all times (except when she gets home). Having been glorified so much, she experiences a shock when Arima overtakes her in the exams.  On top of this agony which torments her, she lets slip her true behaviour...to the one person she hates, Arima! Story: 7 It’s rarely that the title of the anime can sum up the series really well, but with His and Her Circumstances, this is an exceptional to the rule. ... See full review

Monster

Oct 21, 2009

Intro...When a top neurosurgeon decides to save the life of a boy over the mayor of the town, he hadn't anticipated awakening the monster within...Story: 9For me, Monster is one of those series which is incredibly long.  While most other series of this length suffer from a storyline which gets subjected to filler, Monster doesn't.  Instead a beautifully woven plot underlies all the episodes, leading like an avalanche trying to gain momentum, before it realises it travelling too quickly, taking everything in its path with it.  For me, the only reason why this series doesn't get the perfect 10... Mizu no Kotoba

Oct 18, 2009

Intro...Getting just small snippets of conversation in a cafe and a tiny window into the lives of those who are there.Story: 8I must admit that sometimes shorter animes tend to be better at conveying more information across than those which continue on for the standard length of time.  In the same ways that Pale Cocoon, Voices of a Distance Star and Eve no Jikan are each short series that give barely anything other than story, so to is Mizu no Kotoba.  Its actually hard for me to talk about the story because lasting only 9 minutes is ratrher a short amount of time, but for some reason, you find... RahXephon

Oct 17, 2009

IntroAyato has been living an ordinary life for 17 years.  Hoever, he's just about to find out, that the world he believed in is not what he thought it was...Story: 10I must say that I am biase when it comes to this show.  Rahxephon for me was one of the first animes that I ever watched and still to date remains in my top 5.  The reasoning for this lies mostly within the story of the show.  There isn't that many shows out there where the writers would spend a year writing it and adjusting the storyline before even starting on animations, just so they had it right.  It portrays... Demonbane

Oct 13, 2009

Intro...Some books decide to take human form and with evil mages about wreck havoc on the world...(at least I think that's about it!)Story: 2 D is for Dreadful D is for Dire D also happens to be for Demonbane… …notice the trend. I rarely ever say this about an anime, but this is perhaps one of those ones out there that never deserved to have the time and effort wasted on making it. The plot tries to mix mecha and magic together, ultimately failing in a quagmire of typical power-ranger style fighting, whereby they fight each other with magic before retreating into their vast... Ani*Kuri15

Oct 8, 2009

Intro...What would happen if you were told that you had only 1 minute of animation time to do whatever you wanted?  This is what happened when they asked 15 people to do just that...Story: 8Because Ani Kuri is somewhat different from your standard format, the idea of story cannot be compared to that of a normal anime.  Instead, you have to look at the individual 'episodes' of 1 minute long.  How much story can you show in a 1 minute clip?  The answer depends on the animator and some of these clips show incredible depth while others are just painful to sit through.  However, since... Voices of a Distant Star

Oct 6, 2009

Intro...Split by distance, two close school friends exchange text messages and as they get further apart, they take longer to get there.Story: 10Voices of a Distant Star is one of those series that get's viewers simply because of its reputation.  And if there was any anime out there that deserved that, then Voices is certainly the one.  Its hard for me to talk about the story without having spoilers, as being only 20 odd minutes in length, everything in the anime is somewhat critical to the plotline.  But that's what makes it so good.  The story is a simple, yet beautiful tale of how two... BLAME!

Oct 5, 2009

Intro...I normally like to introduce the anime just a bit and give some background on why my review is the way it is.  Unfortunately, that can't happen for this one.Story: -1I know what some people will say, that you can't have -1/10 (it wouldn't let me do this, hence the 0.1/10) .  However, for this show, you seriously can.  In terms of story, these 6 episodes offer in terms of time about 14 minutes in total.  The entire first episode has no dialogue and from there what "story" is shown is disjointed and simply not even worth the time that was spent making the thing. ... Clannad After Story

Oct 4, 2009

Intro...Following on from where we left off from Clannad, Clannad After Story explores the life of the characters once they've left school.Story: 10The original Clannad had characters which were likable and a plot which made the watching brilliant.  When I first heard about Clannad After Story, I was somewhat apprehensive, after all, more often than not the sequal to a series is never as good as the original.  What I was not prepared for was that not only did the story deliver the high standard from the original series, it actually took the step and went one better.  It seems that the small...
