Story The story has some noticeable problems... Firstly, the show really doesn't come into its own until the second 'arc' starts about halfway through it. Until then, there's lots of mulling around and very slow buildup of a story that ends up never getting resolved. Also, there are a LOT of...

Story This is a very hard show for me to review. After all, it comes from Shinichiro Watanabe, the guy behind Cowboy Bebop, which is quite possibly my favorite anime ever. So I had really high hopes, and consequently really high expectations for this show. Still, I will do my best to review it...

Hi VivisQueen. I was indeed a very active anime watcher/reviewer/fansubber from about six years ago to about three years ago. However, I was mostly active on the APN forum, not in the AniRec database (which at the time was what I guess is now the main APN site). Last I checked (which was not that recently) a lot of my old reviews are still available there under the username -=Masakari=- on the forum, and that's where my profile is. I actually have not been watching anime for the past few years, largely due to having a lot less free time than I used to. However, if you have any questions, comments, or just want to chat, feel free to drop me a line.In any case, thanks for the message and have fun!

I've never quite been able to give up anime because it's a great way to keep the child in me alive. The child in me happens to be Sakura Kinomoto; the adult in me is turning day by day into Eva...

Battle Angel Alita

YOU MIGHT LIKE

Heat Guy J

Both Battle Angel and Heat Guy J feature a combat robot as their primary (or one of the primary) characters. Both shows have a lot of action in them, although the action in Battle Angel is more gory and violent. Both shows also have stong dramatic plots or themes underlying the action, and explore the quasi-parental relationship of a scientist with a robot they have created.

Heat Guy J

Armitage III and Heat Guy J both feature high quality animation, a primarily action-adventure oriented plot, and focus on interaction between robots and humans, with both imagining the kind of human-like relationships that might develop between anthropomorphic robots and humans.

Cowboy Bebop

YOU MIGHT LIKE

Heat Guy J

Both Cowboy Bebop and Heat Guy J take place in an environment that is a mix of sci-fi and reality. Various technologies exist that don't exist in reality, but other things, like guns and cars, seem the same. Both shows have lavish animation budgets and clever directing, and both feature a group of characters that develop a bond even through their apparent differences. Both shows also have plenty of action, but in the context of a plot, and never simply gratuitous.

Macross Plus

Both shows prominently feature a love triangle between the primary characters, and both shows have a strong sci-fi/mecha action component, dealing with the characters involved with testing an experimental mecha weapon or weapons. And while both may seem to be action shows at first, they are in the end more about the drama and heartbreak that results from the secrets that the characters keep from each other and the changes they go through when opportunity is thrust upon them.

Saiyuki

Both shows feature a lot of action and a strong central plot that is advanced by a succession of shorter plots (although Saiyuki is more 'episodic' than ZOE is), but both also gain a lot from a cast of characters with great personal dynamics. Both feature a group of people traveling together on a grand quest while trying to iron out personal differences, and both feature a 'family' dynamic, with a strong central 'parent' figure, an innocent (but incredibly powerful) child figure and two 'sibling' figures that serve as a middle ground.
