Soul Eater Not!

on

Story | 7/10 Absolutely adorable and beautiful to me, but lacks essential build-up. It was more focused on Tsugumi and friends, leaving little screentime for the villain’s development. However, it still had that little touch of mystery to it. I also very much appreciated the bonds that were made and sustained. The story was simple and well-executed. It also further humanized the experiences new students of the D.W.M.A. go through. Although Soul Eater Not! is certainly not like the original Soul Eater series, I find this anime is best appreciated for what it is in its own right. I personally enjoyed... See full review

The Wind Rises

on

Story | 8/10
Fast-paced telling of a story that emphasizes the significance of dreams. "The Wind Rises" also leaves one in awe of the technological development of Tokyo, Japan during World War II. Though I found some parts of the story could have been a little further elaborated, the film itself is still a masterfully told tale.  The story of "The Wind Rises" takes place during the era of World War II. So it is a film that very well presents to the Western audience one of the Japanese perspectives during WWII. This movie also presents two sides of the same coin: a... See full review

Kannazuki no Miko

on

Story | 7.5/10
First of all, I enjoyed this anime and its story. But its concepts aren't all that original. I've seen the miko (priestess) theme in a few anime before. However, the story was little crumpled altogether. The ending was puzzling, but I will not spill the details. Given it's such a short anime, I find the general details too spoilerific to share. Animation | 8/10
A little choppy when it comes to the battle scenes, but still considerably action-oriented. But I do love how much color there is throughout Kannazuki no Miko. The character designs are lovely, but at the same could have a... See full review

Princess Tutu

on

Story | 8/10
This anime's story is very well-executed. I really like how each of the episodes were each somewhat of a retelling of a fairy tale, story, or play. The concepts throughout Princess Tutu are interesting and captivating. What I enjoyed most about the story is that it is reenacting a storybook and how it takes place in a world where fantasy and reality converge. The story of Princess Tutu has enough comedy to make you laugh and smile dearly, as well as some tragic elements thrown into the mix. However, I found the story a little too predictable. But being what it was, a story being a retelling... See full review

Kami nomi zo Shiru Sekai 2

Story | 8/10
Conquering the hearts of young women has never been so comedic and cute! I love this series because of how capable Keima Katsuragi is in filling the emptiness in the hearts of young women. The story seems a little dull for me, but I like the comic relief found in some of the episodes. Comparably-speaking, I enjoyed season 1 more. However this 2nd season is more realistic and heartwarming. The "God of Conquest" captures four more loose souls. However in this season Keima has more of a challenge with a few of his targets. The Laws of Eternity

on

Story | 8/10
Thoroughly presents brief explorations of each higher dimension in the Spirit World. Also shows the power of the Divine and Light. Answers about life on Earth and the afterlife are revealed, though such answers are still considered theoretical to many people on Earth.   Animation | 8.5/10
The animation is beautiful. Many vivid colours and themes. The landscapes are well-done. The Nine Dimensions were displayed spectacularly. The transitions through the dimensions were also visually great. The designs of the human characters were simple, while the designs of the spiritual... See full review
