I read the first novel after a few of the anime episodes caught my attention. What an incredible treat! I read a lot of fantasy fiction by American and British writers, so I'm used to it following a certain pattern, but Moribito, while having some of the same elements, was so different. There is a lot that goes on in the novel, much of it very dark, yet it maintains an almost peaceful spirit throughout. If you watched the anime, you'll find that the novel starts out the same, but they branch off a bit. Both the anime and the novel are well worth watching/reading, though! I read the first book in the series and have only just discovered that the second has been translated... I hope the rest follow! I'm having a difficult time describing it, so I hope you read it for yourself, and if you do, I hope you find it as enchanting as I did!
