Absolutely looooooove this manga! Although there are, of course, some creative liberties taken, this manga tells the story of the historical figure, Ludwig II of Bavaria, who was thought to be mad, having spent much of his fortune building dream castles and supporting the works of the composer Wagner.
I love You Higuri's works, and this one was no exception. Fantastic storytelling, simple but beautiful art, and classic, heart-warming characters. This was one of my first yaoi and I wasn't sure how comfortable I would be reading it, but I loved the relationship that developed between Ludwig and Hornig. Although that's a big focus in the manga, it's far from the only one, and you get a more complete idea of Ludwig II's life. The ending had me in tears the first time I read it despite the fact that my first set of copies was in Japanese and I had to keep looking back and forth between the page and an English translation. It was well worth the effort then, and I was delighted to see that an English translation was published in America.
