Currently watching and enjoying: Great Teacher Onizuka
I also play OSU. A fun, rhythm game for the PC that uses all kind of music but mostly anime, J-Pop, and etc due to popularity. Should give it a try.
I don't hate or dislike any particular genre of anime. For me, there's just anime. Anime that have good things in them and bad things in them. One or the other overpowers the other, and only the subjects that you love that seem to appear in the shows will really give perspective.
I really have distasteful mouth for the generic unoriginal anime. I'm tired of seeing and hearing about an average guy surrounded by near-perfect women. With this mindset, I wouldn't have been able to find and enjoy the many great shows I know now. Although there are many animes out there that will bore you to death because of the unoriginality and only appeal to ecchi, there are gems out there that you can miss with such a destructive mindset.
What I'm trying to go for here, is that you shouldn't dismiss anything at face-value. Give it a try even if it has bad ratings. Everything has its ups and downs and maybe you'll love more aspects more than those you'll hate
