Some of you might already know this, but this is for those of you who do not. There is a brilliant translator out there, toiling away on the newest stories by Junji Ito. His name is Daniel Lau and he is a god among men.
For some background, Junji Ito is, quite simply, one of the greatest living manga artists. This may seem like a bold statement, considering that I've only read a few of his stories, and the ones I've readhave indeed had flaws. But his imagination and creativity and his deep understanding of how to properly tell a story have led me to believe that he has the kind of potential I've never seen before in a storyteller in any medium
His stories have been steadily improving over the years, and as I download these newly translated stories, I am both excited, and just a little scared. He specializes in horror story, and each of his tales has left some kind of mark on me. When I watched the movie Friday the 13th, I was startled. And when I watched the movie Saw, I saw grossed out. But when I read a story by Junji ito, it induces a kind of unease in me that lingers long after the story is finished.
I'm in the same boat as you right now. I haven't read any of these new stories. I'll give you updates as I read them. For now, I suggest you go to http://www.daniel-lau.com/ and download everything.
