Lunn wa Kaze no Naka

on Jun 13, 2016

Story This anime is a story about a boy who falls in love with a girl on a poster.  The boy was constantly bullied by his classmates and teachers, and was feeling lonely when he came across a poster with a girl on it.  He takes the poster, pastes onto the wall of his room, and names her Lunn.  He then begins to treat the poster as if she were his girlfriend.  However, when the bullies learn about his feelings towards the poster, the bullying worsens and event unfold which lead the boy to consider suicide.  Fortunately, the poster talks him out of it... Pupa

on Jun 9, 2016

Story There is a reason why most short-length episode anime are either slice of life and/or comedies.  It's because slice of life and comedy are fairly easy to pull off in shorter episodes.  However, more serious, darker, and more complicated stories are much harder to pull off in such a short time span.  Pupa is a prime example as to why darker, more complicated stories shouldn't be adapted into short-length episode series. Pupa's story is fairly interesting, but it suffers from many major flaws.  The biggest flaw is that the pacing is all over the place.  Some... See full review

Pale Cocoon

on Mar 21, 2016

Story It's a post appocallyptic future where humans live underground.  The main character excavates digital data on what Earth was like before.  However, he is the only one who is still interested in excavating the data since everyone else (including his girlfriend) has given up hope and wishes they never excavated the data in the first place.  The story can be a bit slow at times, but I personally think the slowness actually helps with the overall atmosphere of the show.  The twist ending also helps.  I do wish there was more to it, though.  That said, it is a... Story This is basically a story of love, loss, grief, coming to terms with said grief, and moving on.  Be prepared for many "feelz" in this movie.  Then there's the plot twist that will make you change your perspective on things.  The only thing really negative about the story is that some of the subplots feel slightly under-developed (which is probably due to the movie being only an hour long).  That said, the story is still quite enjoyable and will probably make you cry. Animation The animation is quite beautiful and well done. ... See full review

Plastic Nee-san

on Mar 3, 2016

Story To be honest, this series doesn't actually have a plot.  It's just the random antics of three high school girls and several side characters.  The humor can be somewhat crude at times, but I also found it quite funny (though some episodes are funnier than others).  In my opinion, episode 8 is the best. Animation The animation is fairly decent for this type of series. Sound The background music and opening and ending themes are okay.  They aren't anything amazing, but they aren't terrible either. Characters The... See full review

The Garden of Words

on Jan 30, 2016

Story Basically, this is a story about the developing relationship between a high-school boy and an older woman who meet each other during rainy days.  While the story is somewhat simple, it makes up for it by being beautifully told. Animation The animation is absolutely gorgeous!  Really, this film is downright beautiful to look at, especially the rainning scenes (which are probably the best looking rain scenes I've ever seen animated). Sound The background music is quite lovely and during the times where there is no background music playing... See full review

Kono Danshi, Ningyo Hiroimashita.

on Jan 26, 2016

Story Basically the story is about a lonely boy who meets a merman and takes him home with him.  The boy and the merman's relationship develops over the course of the OVA as they deal with various issues.  While the story isn't particularily groundbreaking (and can be a bit melodramatic at times), it is a cute and sweet story that has a good balance of funny moments and serious moments. It's also well paced and has a satisfying conclusion.  Animation  Like it's predeccesor, the animation is a little choppy (due to the low budget) but makes up for it... Story Basically, the story is about this boy named Kakashi who for whatever reason is the only one who can fight these aliens in order to prevent them from invading Earth.  In order to protect the public, Kakashi lives in a house thats isolated in the middle of nowhere, and his only source of human contact are two guys that live in that house with him.  To make things worse, Kakashi has amnesia (which is never really explained except that it might be related to the fact that he can fight aliens).  As the OVA progresses, Kakahi begins to wonder if he has any family or friends... Story This is basicaly a 27 minute movie about a girl meeting a boy who has a monster/alien/whatever and them fighting another boy who has two monster/alien/whatever things.  The plot isn't very deep and leaves alot of things unexplained, but it makes up for it by being an entertaining and fun action fest. Animation The animation is great!  The backgrounds are quite detailed and the action scenes are awesome.  I also liked watching Cenco transform as well. Bikini Warriors

on Jan 20, 2016

Story First of all, there really isn't any over-all plot in this show.  It's just a series of 4 minute long episodes that follow the episodic misadventures of four scantily-clad women.  I will say that those who like eichii/sexual-humour/fanservice will probably enjoy this show more than those who don't.  However, I will also say that this show does have at least some clever RPG parody elements and some moments I genuinely thought were funny.  Also, most of the episodes were pretty well paced (except for the last episode, which randomly mashed up almost every... Tokyo Marble Chocolate

on Jan 16, 2016

Story Tokyo Marble Chocolate is a cute 2-episode OVA that tells the story of an insecure couple.  While it does have plenty of the cliches that you tend to see in romantic anime, it also has two things that help it stand out.  First of all, we see both characters' sides of the story (one side per episode) which is a neat concept.  Secondly, the mini-donkey adds a bit of crazyness and comedy to what would have been just your regular romance anime.  While the story isn't all that deep, it makes up for it by being cute and light hearted.  It also helps that it has a... Story While the story may not be all that unique, it is told in a well paced and charming way.  It is fairly simple but quite entertaining, and it's overall a satisfying experience. Animation Put simply, the animation is awesome.  Not only is the animation very smooth, but it also has a certain special charm about it. Sound The background music is really cinematic and well done. Characters Dispite the fact that this anime is only 25 mins. long, you do get attached to the characters.  This is probably the characters are... See full review

Black Rock Shooter

on Jan 7, 2016

Story The story may confuse those who watch this OVA for the first time, but it does make more sense after watching it for a second time.  Basically, it jumps between the two girls becoming friends (and later, their friendship starting to fall apart) in the real world, and the two girls fighting each other with super powers in some alternate universe.  The constant jumping will probably confuse veiwers; so, I shall offer a hint: all of the alternate universe scenes take place after the main girl merges with Black Rock Shooter.  In any case, the story is entertaining for... Garo The Animation

on Dec 27, 2015

Story Garo: The Animation is an action/fantasy anime that is based off of and/or a spin off (I'm not sure it's an actual adaptation or a spin-off) of a tokukatsu series called Garo.  I've never seen the original live-action series so I can't compare the anime to it.  That said, as a stand-alone series, this anime is pretty good.  While the story is nothing ground breaking, it does have some decent plot twists and it's pretty entertaining.  It takes a while for the main plot to get going (in fact, the anime feels somewhat episodic at times, especially early on), but... Story: This is a story a boy who lives at a boarding house with a bunch eccentric people.  The girl who the boy likes is also lives there and the boy spends the whole series trying to get closer to her while dealing with the various hiijinks that the rest of the cast does.  The story isn't very deep, but it's fun and cute for what it is.  It helps that there are plenty of funny moments. Animation: The animation is very colorful and is at times downright beautiful.  There are plenty of cute chibi moments as well. Sound: Both the opening... See full review

Death Parade

on Dec 14, 2015

Story: Death Parade is the sequel/follow-up to the short film Death Billiards.  At first, I was afraid that the entire series was going to be like Death Billiards (because while I loved Death Billiards, let's face it, it would get way too repetitive if every episode was like that).  Fortunately, the series does change things up a bit and even the episodes that follow the Death Billiards formula do vary a bit.  Also, while Death Parade seems episodic at first, there is an over-arching plot-line (and an interesting one at that).  I also like how it expands on the afterlife system... Wakako-zake

on Oct 25, 2015

Story To be honest, this show doesn't really have a plot per say.  It's simply about the main character, Wakako, eating and drinking, talking about food pairings, and so forth.  We do see some snippets of Wakako's work-life.  If this was a full length episode series then it would probably be boring, but since the episodes are only 2 minutes long (or 1 and 1/2 minutes if you don't count the opening) then this type of set-up works.  It helps that the episodes are well paced. Animation Some people may get turned off by the way Wakako's drawn, but I... See full review

Cardfight!! Vanguard: Asia Circuit

on Sep 30, 2015

Story This is the second season/series of Cardfight Vanguard. Compared to the first season, this season embraces the supernatural/fantasy elements alot more.  If you prefered the more realistic feeling that most of the first season had you may be slightly dissapointed, but if you wanted something more "Yu-Gi-Oh"-ish then you may like this season a little bit more.  I like the fact that it introduces new cards and the tournaments have new rules to spice things up.  The plot is still fairly predictable and there are some plot holes that you'll find if you really... Golden Boy

on Aug 31, 2015

Story This OVA series is basically about the misadventures of the main character Kintaro and he goes from one job to another and gets involved in various ecchi situations.  This series is mostly episodic with a new job (and a new girl) in each episode (though the last episode does tie in with the previous episodes a little bit).  Now, I'm not a big fan of ecchi series but this is definately one of the better ones.  Most of the ecchi scenes are hilarious and this series just has a certain "heart" to it that many ecchi/fanservice series lack.  Each episode is a... Girl Friend BETA

on Jan 4, 2015

I watched this series due to the Anime Lotto Club.  Anyways, I decided to review it. Story This is essentually a slice of life/school life type series that follows the daily lives of various girls.  The episodes range from pretty cute to kind of boring (epecially if you are not into "cute girls doing cute things").  The series does have it's heartwarming moments, though.  In my opinion, episodes 3 and 11 are the best. Animation The animation is pretty much standard.  It isn't great, but it isn't bad either. Sound The opening song isn't anything special, but... See full review

Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play

on Dec 25, 2014

Story: Fushigi Yugi has an enjoyable, albeit rather cliche and often melodramatic story.  Then again, maybe the plot wasn't quite as cliche back when it came out in 1995.  It's about a girl named Miaka who goes into a world inside of a book, becomes a priestess with seven companions, and goes on a quest to summon Suzaku.  Along the way, they clash with a group from an enemy country who seek to summon a enemy diety and the girl's (former) best friend, Yui, who was being manipulated into thinking the girl betrayed her.  The story rages from being lighthearted... Cardfight!! Vanguard

on Dec 24, 2014

Story: This series is of the "Card Game Battling" genre; so, the plot is fairly preditable (though there are a few interesting curveballs).  Unlike Yugioh (which goes all out with the supernatural/fantasy elements from the get go), Cardfight Vanguard actually starts off fairly grounded and realistic.  I personally like the fact that it starts off humbly and somewhat realistic and gradually works up to becoming more epic, but I can see how some people might find it boring.  This series takes awhile to really hit it's stride.  Eventually, the series begins to introduce the... Dark Cat

on Nov 24, 2014

First of all, allow me to state that this review is based on the dubbed version of Dark Cat.  I'm sure the original Japanese version of Dark Cat is better than the dubbed version, but I've only seen the dubbed version.  Since I can only review what I've seen, the score I give to this anime will apply only to the dub version.  Besides, I'm pretty sure the other reviews on Anime-Planet cover the subbed version with the original Japanese audio; so, it's about time for somebody on this site to review the dubbed version. Story The story is at least fairly interesting, albeit a bit of a... See full review
