11eyes

Jul 7, 2012

11eyes, in the beginning, showed potential to be a "10" or "9" grade anime. Some shows went on and grew the beard. This one, on the other hand, devolved into something else. However, this wasn't exactly a devolution into the worst of the worst.

Story - 4/10

The anime showed pretty strong potential to be a very good supernatural themed story. The concept was used before. This did not discourage me from watching it though. One can use mediocre concepts and turn it into gold. I first saw this aspect as gold. This view, however, devolved and the story slowly but surely turned... See full review

5 Centimeters per Second

Jul 12, 2012

From Makoto Shinkai (Voices of a Distant Star, The Place Promised in Our Early Days) comes 5 Centimetes per Second, a movie that tells the story of two childhood friends in love, and how they try to keep their relationship going through hardships that life throws at them. Throogh three small stories, or episodes as they're called, we're told the tale of how they grow up and farther away from each other.

The movie tells of a love that's slowly torn apart because the lovers move further away, both in heart and home. It's underlying themes are beautifully incorporated into the story; about growing up... See full review

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero

Oct 2, 2012

Finally an anime where the protagonist is not some lame fool, with his balls cut off. No weak as jokes where the male lead is a pussy and only has cheesy one liners. This has all the elements of the best animes. School life, fantasy, some elements of a harem, fighting, etc. with the lead as a handsome physically fit male, strong and confident, awesome girls, magic, fan service that has some depth. Great personalities among supporting roles. The only let down being that animes that are particularly awesome in most regards tend to have short life spans. Its strong story may reach past 13, and it has room for... See full review

Ai Yori Aoshi

Jul 7, 2012

The story itself isn't out of the ordinary......boy meets girl, falls in love and another 4 girls do the same. However, it is good the way the story develops around the two main characters. The male lead isn't an asshole nor an idiot and that makes him a likable character. The female lead is.....interesting......She doesn't know anything else besides her love for the male lead and it's kinda interesting to see how the story develops around her.

There is no tragedy to make the plot a little more complicated (except the facts concerning the past of the main male character which I won't spoil for you)... See full review

Ai Yori Aoshi Enishi

Jul 9, 2012

After loving the first season of Ai Yori Aoshi, I decided to give this second season ago. Hoping that this anime will be as good or even better than the first, I went into this anime with high expectation. Now, did this anime live up to the hype? Well lets see.

Story (4/10)
Now, the story was decent and they made the best in what they were doing but in all honesty it didn't feel like a follow on at all, I mean you get to know each characters background a little more which is always nice but you want to see more one how our two love birds are doing and are they making any progress. But in the end... See full review

Akane-Iro ni Somaru Saka

Jul 7, 2012

Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka is an anime that hurts itself by raising expectations and failing to meet them like clockwork. It goes out of its way to repeatedly build from mediocrity only to plunge itself back down to the point where you wonder why you even gave it much of a chance. It's someone jumping out of a 3 story building and landing on concrete, only to climb back up and jump over and over again. Until the person's bones are mush and the series limps to its god-awful ending.

As a series in general, Akane-iro ni Somaru Saka (from here on, Akasaka) is passable, I would go as far to say it's decent... See full review

AKB0048

Aug 5, 2012

With the large amount of questionable things AKB0048 attempted, this show was inevitably doomed to fail. The large casts of characters, the doubtable synopsis, & its variety of genres clustered together just to name a few. Most ridiculous of all, the director expected AKB48 singers, a real-life, popular idol group, to successfully convert into voice actresses. Furthermore, most soundtracks in the actual anime will be inserted directly from AKB48's popular debuts, and this all just seemed too convenient to work out. Thus, I walked into AKB0048 expecting some terribly scripted dialogues, incorrect... See full review

Aki Sora

Jul 7, 2012

Aki-Sora isn't your run-of-the-mill brother-sister incest story. There have been too many OVAs to count where a boy and his step-sister(s) of no blood relation at all, made quite clear early in the story, have expressed their forbidden love. One of the attractive points of Aki-Sora, though, is that Aki and Sora are, in fact, full siblings. Finally, the 'I' in incest was dotted, and the 'T' in taboo was crossed, like the line that Aki and Sora cross when they give in to their desires for each other.

A point I find particularly appealing about Aki-Sora is Sora's twin sister, Nami, whom he is not... See full review

Angel Beats!

Aug 21, 2012

I have to admit that I first started watching Angel Beats because of two main reasons: the pretty visuals, and the presence of guitars. But once I began watching the show in earnest, I found a lot more here than I expected. Angel Beats is a show that keeps me guessing, and consistently tugs at strings I didn't know existed until they were pulled.

Basically, Angel Beats is about an afterlife in which a group of dead students refuse to 'move on' to the next life, because they have some sort of peace to make with the world and themselves. There's a unique mix of common school life against the... See full review

Another

Aug 5, 2012

Another was one of those series which had me waiting eagerly for Mondays to arrive and wishing that the weekend would end sooner. For twelve weeks, it was my priority above all else to watch this amazing series, and to be honest, I'm already awaiting the release of the OVA in May. If I had to say what makes it so incredible, I would cite the short series length, the clever plot with a brilliant resolution, and outstanding animation as the main contributing factors, although the promise of blood will probably be enough for most people to decide whether this show is for them or not. Although the violence... See full review

Aria the Scarlet Ammo

Aug 27, 2012

I really am trying to not become one of those cynical anime watchers who think the best has already come and never will again, but you’re really trying my resolve this year Japan. Hidan no Aria was a show that for whatever reason I had a great deal of excitement and anticipation for. I was won over by the early pre-production artwork without knowing really anything at all about what it was going to be about or the source materials. When I learned the seiyuu cast and the plot synopsis I was pretty sure what I was going to be in store for. In that sense I probably shouldn't have been disappointed at... See full review

Asa Made Jugyou Chu!

Jul 9, 2012

If you looking for something that's just plain old erotic and very well *hard boner* giving, then search no further as this anime OVA is what you been searching for. Sort of cliche part of the main character living in a all girls dorm and cross dressing to hide the fact he's a girl, but this is a twist where he's attending a regular coed school but he has a very well *horny and accidental thinking perverted things* teacher as a dorm mate (lucky duck)
well see how he manages it in a 1 episode OVA. Wished there were more.

Bleach

Jun 5, 2013

Bleach is one of the three so-called "mainstream shonen animes"; together with Naruto and One Piece these three are immensely popular, and the topic of endless comparison among their fans set out to prove that their favorite is the best out of them. They simply refuse to exit their fanboyism to view the series in an objective light, which is a shame, because they are probably missing out on great adventures, which is the case of Bleach in many ways. If you want my review short and good, give Bleach a try no matter what people have said, as it, despite a lot of shortcomings, presents a most... See full review

Bleach Movie 2: The DiamondDust Rebellion

Jun 5, 2013

Bleach: The DiamondDust Rebellion takes place in the Bleach universe, as the title may suggest. It focuses mainly on 10th squad captain Hitsugaya Toshiro, so if you're a fan of him, you'll enjoy this movie, and if you're not, you might not find it interesting. If you're neither of the former, like me, you'll probably enjoy it too.

The story isn't the most original story you'll see, as it follows the theme of revenge based off of a grudge from the past. Said revenge will be executed by obliterating everything. So there's nothing special in that department. Toshiro gets involved in this act of... See full review

Bleach Movie 4: Hell Verse

Jun 5, 2013

I'll admit, I had a blast watching this movie! It has a lot of cool fights and an interesting plot. The plot isn't all that unique though, that's the only part that is disappointing. If you've seen the anime Bleach, then you know how their 'arcs' go. Bleach tends to do the whole "someone gets kidnapped, Ichigo has to go fight a ton of people and then save them! The end." That's exactly what happens in this movie too.

It starts off with a somewhat of a flashback to when Ichigo fought Ulquiorra back in Hueco Mundo when he turned into a crazed hollow. That caught my attention because I... See full review

Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru

Jul 7, 2012

Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru is I'm in Love with my Little Sister in english and from the title we can already see where this OVA is heading. The story doesn't incorporate many different elements to fully flesh out the story however considering the length of the OVA it is very much understandable.

Story: The story was not your most original however actually incorporating the genre of incestuous relationships is for me a first for anime. The story is basically as you know it, forbidden love that cannot flourish for obvious reasons and the emotional conflict that comes as a result. There isn't much... See full review

Brighter than the Dawning Blue

Aug 9, 2012

Finally, a romantic comedy done right. Even though I'm a guy, I have seen many romantic animes and this is probably one of the best. This is one of those feel good stories that leaves you with a smile upon your face. There is nothing new here or out of the ordinary but the ending is highly satisfying. So many animes start out strong but in the end they fizzle out. Luckily, this isn't one of them. The comedy is light without going over the top and the music is rather gentle, no pop stuff here. Give it a try, you'll love it. (You can also cry if you want to.)

"Bungaku Shoujo" Movie

Jul 11, 2012

In this review I want to use Bungaku Shōjo’s style of associating stories with various tastes. I don’t know about the rest of the world, but in my country there are vitamin C pills sold at the chemist’s. Those pills consist of sweet coat to prepare you for bad thing, bitter middle layer, where the actual medicine is located, and honeyed core to wash away the after-taste. Bungaku Shōjo has that kind of a story.

The first OVA has Japanese girl talking about some story written by the Russian classic author. I was impressed, not by the story, but by the whole concept. That... See full review

C³ is an Action, School and Ecchi kind of theme to it that I came across from a reccommendation of another Anime and seeing some good pointers on it, so decided on giving this series a little spin and well this is what I thought of it.

Story - (6/10)
Yachi Haruaki is a high-schooler who’s always been naturally immune to curses; for this reason, his father keeps sending him cursed tools, called “Waas”, in order to free them of said curses. One day, he receives a mysterious, heavy box; this reveals as an instrument of torture called “Fear in Cube”, whose human... See full review

Canvas ~Motif of Sepia~

Jul 11, 2012

I suppose this anime was decent at best. I didn't really expect much out of 2 episodes, so I guess it did exceed my expectations. The story was rushed, but I guess that's to be expected. The art and animation were also very poor, but you can't really expect more from low-budget OVAs. The characters had a surprising amount of depth to them. They acted in ways that really exceeded my expectations. They actually had deep and complex emotions, unlike you ordinary OVA character, so I came away impressed by that. Overall, it wasn't a total waste of time to watch this series, but it wasn't a life-changing... See full review

I went into viewing ChäoS;HEAd without a great deal of expectations. Having read through many of the reviews and hearing some firsthand accounts on it I got the impression that it was going to be an average at best experience. However this was a show that I had been very interested in seeing since it started airing. For me it’s a great example of not believing everything you hear.

The story starts out as a pretty interesting mystery involving a number of grisly murders and a high school boy who believes he has witnessed one of them and is being fed information about future killings before... See full review

Chobits

Jul 13, 2012

The typical perverted boy meets beautiful innocent girl but with a twist the girl is a robot! As much as I loved this anime the story really wasn't too original or inspiring. Many places where is is just a fan service but the detailed gothic lolita styled dresses give it an up in the art category.

As for the characters they are typical and not liable to change much throughout the series. The robot twist does add a little points in this category though.

The theme song and the two ending songs were wonderfully chosen and the voices where well done as well.

Watching it was pleasant... See full review

Clannad

Clannad. Made as a visual novel by Key, made into an anime by Kyoto Animation. This combination has been seen twice before, in the series Air and Kanon. Both are well-known among anime fans, and mostly positively received. And anyone who has watched either or both of the two previously mentioned will definitely have their expetations of what Clannad will offer. These expectiations will probably, in a way, be fulfilled; yet Clannad is certain to sweep you along and astound it with its gripping tale.

Time and time again a “used to be popular” franchise releases an OVA, in order to revive itself and Da Capo: If just felt like another attempt to do so.

Da Capo: If is a Harem, Romantic, Comedy, Drama(?) that follows the same old story as its previous incarnations, not sure where it fits into the timeline though. Junichi is a guy who has somehow attracted a large female following. Although this time round the magical aspect is played down and Kotori fans are offered some fanservice, since the all important “what if he ends up with Kotori?” question is answered. Like most of... Dusk Maiden of Amnesia

Dusk Maiden of Amnesia. Even that title alone may convince some viewers to watch this series. But what you may least expect would be a ghost troll (a hot ghost troll if I may add) hanging out with the main protagonist on a daily basis doing cute little things here and there.

The story covers the Paranormal Investigation Club, a club that deals with the supernatural. From there, we have the other members starting with Teiichi Niiya, probably the only normal member of the group. He maintains an unusual relationship with our ghost troll Yuuko in which despite her flirtatious and mischievous attempts... See full review

When I saw the first episode, i was dying to write a review on it, but I knew it wasn't fair to write a review after just watching the first episode, so I forced myself to watch the second episode.

Story. 1.

How many times have you heard this story? Some nerd transfers into a new school, he's a loser and doesn't stand out, but somehow he gets surrounded by beautiful women who all want to have sex with him. Too many times to count. The story is overdone, and needs to stop.

Even at first glance, Fortune Arterial seems... shakey... generic. Whoever said "don't judge a book by its covers" probably didn't look in the right book section because, indeed, Fortune Arterial is shakey and very generic. The experience of watching Fortune Arterial is comparable to eating rotten food (not that you would ever do it voluntarily)- the experience is horrible for the first half, then after eating it for a while your taste buds already dead so you feel that it's passable. Animation (8/10)
Quite nice and steady animation. The character designs are a bit on the simplistic side, but they are nice to watch. Funny scenes are drawn very well, and there are quite a few of them. You will find a lot of ecchi (especially panty shots and the "top part") in this series, but not just light stuff. In my honest opinion this series does touch the border of hentai with some scenes...
