High School DxD

Aug 22, 2012

Sex, lewd thoughts, and imaginations. Here's an interesting little trivia: Did you know that the average man in our world today think about sex nearly every 56 seconds? Fact or fiction, you decide. Of course, this is all normal. I mean, our minds is filled with all sorts of imaginations and dreams whether it'd be finding the perfect girlfriend or going on your first dream date. In this anime known as the High School DxD, our protagonist Hyudo Iseei goes from a lecherous second-year high school student attending Kuoh Academy to someone he hasn't began to imagine before.

At first glance, the title... See full review

Omamori Himari

Aug 22, 2012

If your that person that can't stand that pathetic weak main character or gets annoyed by bouncing breasts, I definitely suggest you cross this anime from your list right now. However besides that, Omamori Himari does live up to its harem and ecchi genre. Before I continue any further, just remember this is a review and not an synopsis.

Story (7/10)
The whole demon thing didn't capture me from the start. Truth be told, when I started watching episode one I didn't expect much and I almost dropped it. After finishing the series though, I told myself,"Hey! that wasn't half bad at all!"... See full review

Angel Beats!

Aug 21, 2012

I have to admit that I first started watching Angel Beats because of two main reasons: the pretty visuals, and the presence of guitars. But once I began watching the show in earnest, I found a lot more here than I expected. Angel Beats is a show that keeps me guessing, and consistently tugs at strings I didn't know existed until they were pulled.

Basically, Angel Beats is about an afterlife in which a group of dead students refuse to 'move on' to the next life, because they have some sort of peace to make with the world and themselves. There's a unique mix of common school life against the... See full review

Shuffle! Memories

Aug 9, 2012

Shuffle! itself was an excellent harem anime that brought together unique characters, a strong feeling of drama, and a rather unexpected conclusion. Shuffle! Memories, however, failed to deliver any form of new development to the series. It essentially provided fans with a complete summary of the original series without providing anything new in terms of story or character development.

The story of Shuffle! Memories, if you can so call it that, is basically a complete recap of the original series. That's it. There are no new characters, no new developments, and no new scenes in terms of story. The... See full review

Shuffle!

Aug 9, 2012

Shuffle! is a classic Supernatural, Harem, Romance, Comedy, Drama that feels fairly average to begin with but it’s full of surprises as you go on. My overall score may be somewhat biased but this show is just truly amazing. ^_^

The story is just your basic harem anime as it follows a male protagonist (Rin Tsuchimi) an average high school boy who lives with his childhood friend Kaede (girl). Of course to make this a harem there are more girls included into the mix (5 in total) and not to forget the all important supernatural element to the show, by adding gods and demons to the plot. As the... See full review

Spice and Wolf

Aug 9, 2012

Wolf and spice can be summed up fairly easily. Be prepared for ALOT of dialog. In essence, its about a story about merchant trading during medieval times. A time when the word of the catholic church was more important than anything else and anyone else was deemed a witch or heretic. Since it is set in such archaic times it would be a perfect fit to have an anime about merchant trading.

Ever since i was in middle school I used to play video games with trading and how prices rise and fall from location to location and how supply and demand and even risk margins for investing in certain things to turn... See full review

Tayutayu -Pure my Heart-

Aug 9, 2012

I wouldn't watch this if you haven't seen the Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity- series and if you did don't watch it expecting it to be anything like the series. This is really just some random short stories that don't seem like stories at all.

Like I said there small stories in each episode, they're kinda dumb but were pretty funny, but there wasn't really an overall story to the series and it doesn't follow anything like the Kiss on my Deity show.

The art was the same for the most part, and the scenery came out looking nice.

The music for the show really made the small stuff more... See full review

Toradora SOS! Hurray for Gourmands

Aug 9, 2012

Oh God, why did I watch this...? *Sigh* It's not bad, it really isn't. It was just... Boring.

To start off, unlike it's parent series Toradora!, which revolved around a love dodecahedron of sorts, SOS focuses on... Food. While this is interesting at first, it soon looses its panache. There isn't really much plot to talk about. It's just talking about food and saying that it's delicious.

The art as well isn't great. As this is more or less a gag spin-off, the character models are all very chibi and seems a bit reminiscent of Haruhi-chan. What's interesting about the character designs is that... See full review

Toradora! The True Meaning of Bento

Aug 9, 2012

May contain spoilers-

Ahhhhh, Toradora! One of the animes that really made an impact on me, and after two years they released an OVA! You may be expecting some after story where Taiga could be pregnant (kinda hard for me to imagine though XD), she and Ryuuji are living in an apartment together or maybe even have kids! But much disappointment to a lot of people, it ain't. It's just another story of their everyday lives which could fit in perfectly if they placed this episode in the series. Some people could've gotten angry even. But I believe that this is a smart decision, to release a normal story... See full review

Tsukuyomi -Moon Phase- Special

Aug 9, 2012

I have to admit I did not really enjoy this special as much as I did the series. The artwork seemed to be very different to what I had seen previously, and they did use some strange techniques in the special. Gladly the characters were still recognisable, except for Seiji who seems to have aged considerably.

There were some odd moments, especially with grandfather and Elfried and an octopus (dont tell anybody), and poor Haiji gets the short end of the stick from Art. I did like Haiji as a character throughout the series and I had to admire her pluckiness once again.

The Twinns are still... See full review

Tsukuyomi: Moon Phase

Aug 9, 2012

This series is for those who prefer their vampires to be cute as kittens more often than they are dark and brooding. The mood of the series, like Hazuki's personalities, tend to alternate between the two, although it generally works better when emphasizing the moe aspects, which it does a lot. That said, people with an aversion to cat-eared girls and little-sister types are advised to stay far away.

The plot tends to switch between stretches of seriousness and levity: the first two episodes deal with Hazuki meeting Kohei and escaping the castle, then settling into a silly daily routine before... See full review

UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie

Aug 9, 2012

This story has a pretty cliche' storyline. Guy meets girl, then other girls suddenly appear in droves. Seen it before, right? Well UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie has a few twists that set it apart form other romantic comedies. First, because the main female protagonist has shared her soul with the male lead, she has regressed mentally and physically to the level of a six year old, which presents a whole new challange when it comes to romance. Secondly, the story is dramatic and serious when it needs to be, so the series has just enough drama in it to make it believeable.

The artwork is very clean and... See full review

Vampire Knight

Aug 9, 2012

If you think that shojo series are all flowery, romantic (comedies) and cheerful, you're quite wrong, and Vampire Knight will prove that more than anything else. Keywords for VK are drama, emotional struggles and tragic pasts. Throw in a dash of vampire, and there you have Vampire Knight in all its glory.

The story revolves around the students of the Cross Academy, which is divided into the Day Class for humans, and the Night Class for Vampires. The main characters, Zero and Yuki, both have very sad pasts; Zero had his family killed by a vampire, and Yuki's first memory was a vampire attacking her... See full review

Vampire Knight Guilty

Aug 9, 2012

First and foremost, I write from the perspective of a dissatisfied audience of Vampire Knight Guilty. It was due to my positive opinion of Vampire Knight that led to me to Vampire Knight Guilty and hence my judgement cannot make dichotomies of the two (so I hope you don't mind me making reference to Vampire Knight).

As you'll probably know, VKG continues right where VK left off, retaining much of VK's good qualities at first. The characters from VK/VKG are very well-built and generally three-dimensional enough for me as an audience to relate to and hence enjoy, with the exception of Kaname-kun, who... See full review

Brighter than the Dawning Blue

Aug 9, 2012

Finally, a romantic comedy done right. Even though I'm a guy, I have seen many romantic animes and this is probably one of the best. This is one of those feel good stories that leaves you with a smile upon your face. There is nothing new here or out of the ordinary but the ending is highly satisfying. So many animes start out strong but in the end they fizzle out. Luckily, this isn't one of them. The comedy is light without going over the top and the music is rather gentle, no pop stuff here. Give it a try, you'll love it. (You can also cry if you want to.)

_summer

Aug 9, 2012

If you'd like to waste 60 minutes of your time, watch _summer. It's not even that it was that awful. In all honesty, there was just no point to it. The ending is just outrageously unsatisfying. They introduce you to some characters, hint at some chemistry between a few of them, then end it with a weak attempt at a moral message. After watching episode two, the first thing that came to mind was "Alright, where's episode 3?" It was as if they decided to simply not conclude it, for the sake of making me angry.

Aside from that, everything else was fine. Characters designs were satisfactory... See full review

Da Capo if

Aug 9, 2012

Time and time again a “used to be popular” franchise releases an OVA, in order to revive itself and Da Capo: If just felt like another attempt to do so.

Da Capo: If is a Harem, Romantic, Comedy, Drama(?) that follows the same old story as its previous incarnations, not sure where it fits into the timeline though. Junichi is a guy who has somehow attracted a large female following. Although this time round the magical aspect is played down and Kotori fans are offered some fanservice, since the all important “what if he ends up with Kotori?” question is answered. Like most of... Eiken

Aug 6, 2012

When I saw the first episode, i was dying to write a review on it, but I knew it wasn't fair to write a review after just watching the first episode, so I forced myself to watch the second episode.

Story. 1.

How many times have you heard this story? Some nerd transfers into a new school, he's a loser and doesn't stand out, but somehow he gets surrounded by beautiful women who all want to have sex with him. Too many times to count. The story is overdone, and needs to stop.

Art.

If you look past the girls' overly large breasts, the art is...meh. It's your typical, neon colored... See full review

Step Up Love Story

Aug 6, 2012

Futari Ecchi is an Adult ecchi comedy about people who really love each other. During the course of the series, they are learning to accept each other for the good and bad about themselves. Yes, there is some ecchiness in the 4 OVA's like the title suggests. However, very few animes have ever captured what it is really like to be married in the way that it has done. Off the top of my head, probably only Onegai Teacher did as good of job as Futari Ecchi in portraying the awkwardness of two people coming together in marriage for what ever reason in Anime during the last couple of years. It may not be a title... See full review

Steins;Gate

Aug 5, 2012

My name is Hayden Sorrell and I came from the year 2036.

In my time, Steins;Gate anime was already completed about 25 years ago.

I came to this site from the future to review Steins;Gate before it was completed, after I completed it.

In my time, Steins;Gate (Both anime and the VN) is still immensely popular in the entertainment business. That is because that time travel came to existence a couple of years after both the VN and anime were completed.

However, only the government is controlling it in order to maintain world peace. In my time, CERN has taken control over the... See full review

AKB0048

Aug 5, 2012

With the large amount of questionable things AKB0048 attempted, this show was inevitably doomed to fail. The large casts of characters, the doubtable synopsis, & its variety of genres clustered together just to name a few. Most ridiculous of all, the director expected AKB48 singers, a real-life, popular idol group, to successfully convert into voice actresses. Furthermore, most soundtracks in the actual anime will be inserted directly from AKB48's popular debuts, and this all just seemed too convenient to work out. Thus, I walked into AKB0048 expecting some terribly scripted dialogues, incorrect... See full review

Aug 5, 2012

“Um, m-marriage is where your life goes to drink.”
When I first saw this anime while browsing for brand new anime releases, this anime came into view. My first thoughts… Probably just one of those cliché anime comedy romances. Well I got the comedy romance part right, but the cliché part I couldn’t have been any more wrong. Forgive me Otaku God for calling this anime cliché *goes on hands and knees* The jokes are quite fresh and new, and the romance is so adorable your most likely going to die from potential blood loss coming out of your nose.

Another

Aug 5, 2012

Another was one of those series which had me waiting eagerly for Mondays to arrive and wishing that the weekend would end sooner. For twelve weeks, it was my priority above all else to watch this amazing series, and to be honest, I'm already awaiting the release of the OVA in May. If I had to say what makes it so incredible, I would cite the short series length, the clever plot with a brilliant resolution, and outstanding animation as the main contributing factors, although the promise of blood will probably be enough for most people to decide whether this show is for them or not. Although the violence... See full review

The Familiar of Zero F

Zero no Tsukaima F is the final season of the series and it features a young boy Saito getting abused by his master Louise. Stuff happens, Saito is extremely indecisive about his relationship with Louise, stuff gets fixed. Nothing new is really found in this season and I won't go too much into detail about the summary because hey, you should have seen the previous three seasons before you watch the 4th one, no?

So about the story.. heh. If you have seen the previous seasons, you'll have a pretty good idea what happens. Some stuff happens, maybe some random fanservice here and there, filler episodes... See full review

The Familiar of Zero: Knight of the Twin Moons

Aug 5, 2012

Well, I suppose it's inevitable that Futatsuki no Kishi, being a second season of Zero no Tsukaima, will be compared to the first in one way or another, especially since it's pointless to watch one without another, but I'll try to appraise its own merits as well.

First of all, as implied by the ending of the first season, FnK is a direct continuation of the story. Several new characters are introduced almost immediately, and, while I don't have anything against them, I'd like to point out that they (Agnes, particularly) take up quite an amount of screen time with their own subplots, leaving less for... The Familiar of Zero

Aug 5, 2012

I first began watching Zero no Tsukaima with the initial intention of seeing a light-hearted comedy. Prior to watching, I had read a number of mixed reviews about this show; some praised it for its humor and strong romantic development while others seemed to indicate that it was nothing more than your typical harem/romance/comedy anime. I figured that Zero no Tsukaima (now ZnT for simplicity’s sake) would be a charming and funny show that I could watch without having to do any form of overly-complex thinking. At the same time I hoped that just because ZnT was a comedy it wouldn’t get into too... See full review

Yosuga no Sora: In Solitude, Where We Are Least Alone

What is right and wrong? Who decides this anyway? When the time comes, will you do things based on what you think is right, or what other people say is?

When I first started watching this, it was some form of a "guilty pleasure" decision, while I thought it was going to be just another under-developed hentai (or half-hentai, as I used to call it). I was very pleasantly surprised.
Believe me, this is NOT a hentai. Yes, the main character does have sex with multiple girls over the course of the series, but these scenes have a meaning. More important thing is how they got to it, the story... See full review

Tayutama -Kiss on my Deity-

Aug 5, 2012

Tayutama is a cute little action romance that won’t dazzle you with complicated characters and plot but still manages to be an enjoyable watch. I should say first off if you don’t like your anime with a healthy serving of moe and ultra cute artwork, then you can just stop reading now and not even bother with this series. I liken it to eating cotton candy, while it appeared filling when you stuck it in your mouth in the end it’s not very filling. But it tastes good!
