Maoyu: Archenemy & Hero

Jun 8, 2013

The problem with creating a historical anime is frequently similar to that of adapting a manga or video game: oftentimes, the author has to resort to filler or fan-service materials to clumsily meet the airing requirements for shows. However, an axiom that directors ought to familiarize themselves with is that quality is invariably better than quantity.

Thankfully, this inference only applies to certain aspects of Maoyuu Maou Yuusha, a recent adaptation of the original light novels under the same name.

Set in a time period of gruesome wars to political corruptions, Maoyuu depicts a fantasy... See full review

Myself; Yourself

Oct 3, 2012

Story- When people look at Myself; Yourself's cover, they usually get the automatic reaction that its a typical harem anime with predictable outcomes, which is not true. Of course, if you totally dislike school life - romance animes then you shouldn't bother wasting your time watching a genre you do not like. Back on topic, the story basically revolves around friendship more then relationship between opposite sex, and let me make this clear again... THIS IS NOT A HAREM!

Art- I seriously liked the artwork in Myself; Yourself, not because the girl's were fairly pretty designed but the background and... See full review

Mysterious Girlfriend X

Sep 22, 2012

Ah yes. Mysterious Girlfriend X. When I heard that the manga was getting an anime adaption, I looked forward to seeing other people's reactions to the synopsis almost as much as the show itself. Perhaps a fair few WTFs amongst viewers who've never read the manga?

The story is simple. Boy encounters transfer girl. Boy deliberately tastes girl's drool on a desk. Boy falls in love with girl after that. Um, yeah.
The drool. If there's anything in this series that would turn off those who watch it, it'll obviously be the various saliva-swapping scenes. Personally, I don't think it's that bad. If it... See full review

Maria Holic

Sep 22, 2012

While I was watching this anime, I couldn't help but compare it to another girls' love anime I watched once: suffice to say, it's one that it kept me away from the GL genre for a while for having too much fan service and too little plot. Well, as it turns out, Maria†Holic fits that description a lot better.

You'd think the plot would be centered around the cross-dresser Mariya and her reasons to do so. It's not. The moments in which this is developed in the plot are few and far in-between. In fact, the plot is basically non-existant: the whole series feels like a bunch of random scenarios... See full review

Midori Days

Jul 18, 2012

How would you ever feel if you went to sleep one day, tired of not having a girlfriend, and the next morning you woke up to find out that a girl who likes you had taken the place of your right hand? Or if you liked a guy but were too shy to tell him, and then you woke up to see that you were the dude's right hand? It's an impossible situation, you would say, but that's what's so great about anime: Anything can happen! A high schooler whose reputation as a delinquent scares away any girl he tries to hit on, Seji Sawamura, and a timid girl who's had a crush on him for a long time, Kasugano Midori, are thrown... Megane na Kanojo

Jul 13, 2012

In a nutshell, the story of Megane na Kanojo revolves around four individual stories about four girls who wear glasses and discover love. Each story is short, sweet, and enjoyable, all at a slow, calm, and not overwhelming pace. The stories aren't especially detailed or chalk full of drama, they're just nice. That's the only way I can really describe it.

For the main characters, you had the quirky club president, the pop-idol, the air-headed college student, and the shy high school freshman with their male companions. These characters weren't especially unique or interesting, but they were decent... See full review

Mayo Chiki!

Jul 12, 2012

Mayonnaise Chicken is a simple dish which requires you to cover parts of the chicken which you want to consume with butter and mayonnaise (crumbs are optional) baked at 350 degrees for 20 minutes.. It is better if you.....
Oh wait a minute, this isn't the Cook's Review! My bad folks... It's just that mayonnaise is my most favorite condiment and it goes well with any food. Heck I'm watching this anime while eating mayo out of a jar!
(For those who does not know what Mayo is, I can assure you, it's not an musical instrument.)
Anyways, onward with the review!

Mayo Chiki! is a abbreviation... See full review

Mashiroiro Symphony: The Color of Lovers

Jul 11, 2012

Clannad, Kanon (2006) or ef - a tale of memories/melodies although aging, are the anime who solely represent how romance visual novels should be adapted. As an anime which aims to be romantic, the formula for success is quite simple. Cookie cutter girls are thrown into the same world with a heartthrob and there their feelings would be played around with might it be love or hate. Though absolutely clichéd, this method of portrayal proved to be effective when handling rom-coms. However as time pass, what was known as lovely and heart-warming was tainted by inappropriate fan service, unfunny and... See full review
