Black Bullet

Jul 3, 2014

Premise? Sounded great as it reminded me of Attack on Titan's premise, a series that Black Bullet has been compared to quite often because of the similar vibe. Humanity fenced off and protected by giant walls against an enemy that is nearly impossible to defeat and the only saviors are the ones humanity hates most. In AoT, it was people who could turn into Titans, in Black Bullet's case it is not people who turn into Gastrea but loli called the cursed children who have superhuman powers due to their hybrid blood. Okay, so this show is pandering to the lolicons even though it's suppose to sound serious. It's... See full review

Wizard Barristers: Benmashi Cecil

Apr 8, 2014

Long story short, Wizard Barristers is about a young barrister named Sudo Cecil who is not only the youngest barrister in history but also a girl written about in the mythical book; Grimoire 365. In this world, magic use is apart of everyday society but those who use it (wizards) have strict restrictions on how they can use it. A secret underground group of wizards named the Macal seek to use Cecil's legendary power to destroy the human race.

In a bit more detail, Wizard Barristers carries a theme of magic mixed with courtroom drama and does somewhat decent at one while doing horribly at another... See full review

Coppelion

Dec 24, 2013

Story: (20/50)
What makes Coppelion so disappointing is that it had such a great premise that wasn't utilized at all. In fact it seemed more often than not that the very premise that was set up in the first two episodes of this series was just forgotten about after a while. Coppelion takes place in Old Capitol, approximately 20 years after a nuclear meltdown rendered Tokyo completely uninhabitable. The Japanese government created genetically engineered humans called Coppelion who are high school aged teens that were trained in the art of search and rescue. The genetic engineering rendered them impervious... See full review

BlazBlue: Alter Memory

Dec 8, 2013

If you've been watching anime regularly then maybe you've come across the great curse that befalls anime adaptations of popular video games. Most anime that have been based off of video games tend to be quite horrible but BlazBlue: Alter Memory really takes the cake.

Story: (15/50)
Seriously what the fuck? I guess BlazBlue's story line can only be followed by those who've played the video games but from what I see, those who have played the video game have abandoned ship a long time ago. In terms of story I guess it goes something like this: The main character Ragna is a wanted criminal and is... See full review

Karneval

Nov 23, 2013

I normally don't write a review about an anime I dropped but I already read the manga so I'm really confident about my review.
Story: (30/100) Allow me to try and explain the plot of this series. Karneval is about a boy named Nai who is searching for an old friend and his search brings him in contact with a young pickpocket named Gareki. These two are soon thrown into a battle between the supernatural Government defense force known as Circus and a evil supernatural organization named Kafka that develops these demonic creatures called Varugas. Gareki and Nai join Circus as both Kafka and Circus are... See full review

Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt

Nov 3, 2013

Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt is certainly a wild and over the top anime that knows how entertain. A superficial series that doesn't make any kind of attempt at creating some kind of profound plot and that's just one of reasons why I love this series. PASWG is an anime based off of stereotypical American Culture and animated using a style of animation similar to the average American cartoon. Imagine some of the worst personality based stereotypes of Americans and you'll get the personalities of the main duo; Panty and Stocking. These two sisters from heaven are rude and vulgar as can be. Also known as... See full review

Samurai Harem: Asu no Yoichi

Oct 7, 2013

Asu no Yoichi a.k.a Samurai Harem is an ecchi harem martial arts comedy series that isn't great but it is kind of entertaining. I may not be a big fan of harem series but I don't mind ecchi if it's not over the top. Despite being having harem right in the title, you don't really get an actual sense of a harem forming in this series. The main character Yoichi Karasuma is in fact surrounded by girls but only two actually make an attempt at vying for his affection while the others are typically there to suffer at the hands of his "ecchi accidents." Despite Yoichi being the main character, he isn't... See full review

Day Break Illusion: il sole penetra le illusioni

Oct 1, 2013

Day Break Illusion is a series that could of joined Madoka Magica in building the dark magical girl sub-genre, instead it simply copied it with little originality. What little originality this series does contain comes from its Tarot Card Reading theme which doesn't effect the progression of the series as much as you might think. Day Break Illusion can be exciting at times and deliver emotional scenes here and there but overall, it's a disappointment. Not a failure but a disappointment. Everything is actually really predictable except for what happens to Luna or the information dump in episode eleven. Day... See full review

Gatchaman Crowds

Sep 24, 2013

Story: (70/100)
Gatchaman Crowds was certainly the surprise of this season. Gatchaman Crowds seems to share its history with the original Gatchaman series of the 1970s, a series that I've never seen so I can't and won't compare the two. On the other hand, I will say that anyone looking for a nice upbeat superhero action-drama should probably take a look at this. Gatchaman Crowds combines the traditional duties of disguised superheroes with the benefits and dangers of modern day social networking; creating an anime that you just can't help but enjoy to some extent. This series sticks to the typical... See full review

Ladies Versus Butlers Specials

Sep 22, 2013

Point blank, these specials are basically just one long strip show. The speicals were strickly made for fanservice and serve no actual purpose to the original anime. Admittingly, I'm a guy who enjoys his lolis but not in a sexual manner so the third special made me pretty uncomfortable but besides that one, the others were alright I guess. I'm more of an ass man and not a breast guy either so needless to say Hedyeh was the victor in my opinion. Almost no one had a nose and each special only had one song which was actually nice and soothing.

Watamote: No Matter How I Look at It, It's You Guys' Fault I'm Not Popular!

Sep 9, 2013

Story: (45/50)  It's Not my Fault I'm Not Popular!, No Matter How I Think About It, It's You Guys' Fault That I'm Not Popular!, Watashi ga Moteinai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui! or it's shorter title WataMote! is by far the funniest anime this year. At the same time, it's also the saddest and most cringe worthy anime this year. WataMote! focuses on a girl named Tomoko Kuroki who has a bad combination of Social Anxiety Disorder and narcissism. Tomoko longs to be popular or at least have some friends but reality turns out to be much crueler than she ever imagined. Time... See full review

Saikano

Jul 28, 2013

Saikano is a pretty old manga, dating back to 2000, made into an anime in 2002, given two OVAs in 2005 and then was finally turned into a live action film in 2006. This review is about the anime and somewhat about the OVAs which I recommend you go and watch if you plan to watch this series. Due to the fact that Saikano is an anime from over a decade ago, don't expect any stellar animation. In fact the animation seems to be perfectly based off of the manga which is pretty damn bad but then again, it's from 2000 so I can't be too judgemental about it. The voice actors are actually really good but the... See full review

Attack on Titan

Jul 6, 2013

Attack on Titan, by far the most hyped anime series this year but unlike Sword Art Online, it is actually quite well deserving of most of the hype. Attack on Titan is a creation of a much darker shounen anime, a amazing survival series that just drags you in. Attack on Titan knows how to deliver the suspense and horror while getting you to fear for the character's safety. With the appearance of each Titan, you start to think about who's going to die now, how will the survivors escape, will someone bail out and go crazy? The only real negatives to point out in this show are the high number of still shots... See full review

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet

Jul 2, 2013

Alright let's get to it. Gargantia as I called it, is far from the best series this season or this year and the only real reason anyone says it's such is mainly because of the ending. Give a series a great ending and all of a sudden that makes up for the rest. It's impossible for me to think that way. Gargantia certainly had a great beginning and a great ending but the bridge in between the two cliffs was pretty damn shaky. If anything the series was only good during it's first two episodes and it's last three episodes, everything in between those episodes can be summed up as "meh." The story of... See full review

Psychic School Wars

Jun 25, 2013

I may be an avid anime viewer but I rarely watch anime movies but I decided to give this new one a try. Nerawareta Gakuen is a supernatural romantic drama that starts off simple but gradually builds into a beautiful story that drops 2/3s of the way through. Allow me to explain what I mean. Nerawareta Gakuen starts off as a touching middle school romance between a set of friends that turns into a heart wrenching love triangle of pure unrequited love for each person involved. The love triangle gets even more complicated when Ryoichi, the new transfer student enrolls. Said transfer students turns out to be... See full review

Red Garden

Jun 14, 2013

Red Garden is one hell of a supernatural drama with great character development and story telling. I have to say that it is pretty slow paced but after the first eight or nine episodes things really begin to pick up. There are moments where the main characters main seem melodramatic but consider the moment in which they're doing so and you'll see that they're actually quite justified in their responses. Red Garden can basically be cut into two parts with the first 10 episodes really paying close attention to how the girls are dealing with their current situation and how it affects them mentally and... The Severing Crime Edge

Jun 11, 2013

Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge (The Serving Crime Edge) is a dramatic battle series submersed in a number of sexual fetishes. Despite that last statement, this series isn't really ecchi except for a few select moments. Gotta admit, I like this series even though it is pretty cheesy in many instances. The action is pretty over exaggerated which is somewhat funny but adds great entertainment. You'll get a kick out of this series for it's exaggerated fight scenes and budding romance.  Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge primarily focuses on character development more than it does on fighting scenes. Maybe... See full review

Date a Live

Jun 6, 2013

Date A Live, a series that I never really took seriously to begin with. When it comes to harem based animes, they're either suppose to be funny, serious or romantic and Date A Live was none of that. There were no jokes to laugh at, the serious moments about Kotori and Origami's past were presented horribly and the romance was as good as a third grade stage play about Romeo and Juliet. I'll be honest, the only reason I actually decided to watch this series was because of Kurumi and Yoshino who have been added to my list of Favorite Psychopaths and Favorite Kawaii Characters.
Date A Live attempts to... See full review

Sakurasou no pet na Kanojo is an amazing romantic comedy between a young ordinary teen named Sorata Kanda and an amazing savant named Mashiro Shiina. The Troubled Life of Miss Kotoura

Mar 24, 2013

Kotoura-San was somewhat of a disappointment and had so much lost potential is just saddening. The first three episodes gave us the impression that Kotoura-San will be more of a romantic dramatic with some comedy to ease the tension. Even though I thought highly of Kotoura-San in the beginning, this show began to deteriorate into a poorly done slap-stick comedy that can't even deliver good jokes in no time flat. The romance is barely there and what is there only includes that stereotypical romance with a bunch of blushing and... See full review

Sasami-San@Ganbaranai is definitely an under appreciated anime, but I can't really blame some of the viewers that decided to drop this after the first few episodes. During the first two, three episodes, Sasami-San@Ganbaranai was nothing but pure confusion and all you really thought while watching it was "what the fuck is this?!" Amnesia

Mar 20, 2013

Amnesia was an anime I was honestly hoping will do good but was incredibly disappointed. The story revolves around an unnamed heroine who keeps jumping from one world to another by some unknown means. Some strange unknown being named Orion has apparently knocked into her soul and this causes the lost of her memories and is also why she keeps skipping in-between worlds. The supposed plot to this show is to recover her memories but throughout the series, there hasn't been a single instant of that happening and every episode seems... See full review

Story: (50/100) As you can guess from the title, I was expecting [K] to be the best anime this season for sure, but I just can't agree with my old self after seeing the whole series. Before you go off on me attempting to prove how my review is crap, just read the whole post first and then post your response. Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!

Dec 20, 2012

Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! is a great anime, especially for those who can't get enough of romantic comedies. I must admit, the romantic part of the anime doesn't really kick in until about episode 7 or 8, but enjoy the hilarious antics of our main cast up until then. Our main duo consist of Togashi Yuuta who used to suffer from Chuunibyou (8th Grade Syndrome) and Takanashi Rikka who still has it. The other main cast consist of Kumin Tsuyuri,  Mikoto Isshiki, Shinka Nibutani and my favorite character... See full review
