I am a student who will be pursuing a nursing degree in the Philippines in the near future. I am also an avid anime viewer and every season I look forward to the new titles that often come out. Some of my favorite titles include Fairy Tail, Gundam 00, Code Geass, Valkyria Chronicles, Fullmetal Alchemist and other titles.

My Rating System:

The way I rate anime is a bit obscure for some people. At times it may even seem like I overrate a horrible series or underrate an amazing title. While this is how others may see it, I prefer to see it as a rating system for MY OWN reference. I don't rate an anime to help somebody else pick a title. I rate it for my own benefit in case I run across the same title again and want to determine if there is any value in rewatching it or to gauge how much I enjoyed the series.

Anyways..

3 and BELOW: Either I finished it and hated it or I dropped it in the middle. I usually rate shows lower than 3 when the animation quality bothers me to the point where I can't enjoy the show. A show like Pandora Hearts which has frame rate issues is a prime example of a failure in terms of animation quality. Other reasons why I give certain titles a rating of 3 or lower can be due to a horrible conclusion AKA rushed endings, horrible first impressions (too much too soon), typical characters with no redeeming features and other similar failing factors.

3.5 to 4: Shows that I rate with a 3.5~4 usually entertained me enough to keep me watching until the end. Think of it as eating 'OK' food while downing water to make up for whatever was lacking. This category is for those normal shows that have surprises here and there yet leave you wondering if next episode may be more exciting. The replay/rewatch value of these shows are somewhat low. It's like attending a full day at the carnival. It may be nice the first time but if you spend the whole day there it's highly unlikely that you'll want to do it again tomorrow.

4.5: Shows with a 4.5 are titles which I enjoyed. Typically this category holds titles which have a decent plot, decent characters (I know decent is a vague word, don't get too worked up), and of course and 'OK ranging to GOOD' first and last impression. If 3.5~4 is considered as average, I consider 4.5 to be above average. The replay/rewatch value of these titles can be considered on a case-by-case basis. Just like in the movies, you can go there everyday.. (meaning you can rewatch an anime again) but only if the movie you're watching the next day is good (meaning you'll only rewatch if it was that good.

5: Ahh the number 5.. truly a masterful rating for one of a kind titles. This rating belongs to those shows which have AMAZING character development, a COLORFUL cast, TALENTED voice actors, INSPIRING concepts, LOL-type comedy, and many other wonderful traits. Shows like Angel Beats or Gurren Lagann which at first leave you wondering if there's more to the plot than it seems belong in this category. Those are the shows that make your jaw drop after realizing that you have just witnessed a work of art! The replay/rewatch value for these tpes of titles is almost always a YES. At the same time though, delicacies are best enjoyed in moderation. This means that you don't want to rewatch an epic title too much because it'll decrease the value of the show as a whole. The same can be said for other lower rated titles but it's more critical for a masterpiece that you enjoy it in moderation.

So if you don't rate normally, then what?

Well, seeing as I don't rate shows for the benefit of other people. I will simply reserve critical judgement for in-depth reviews. I'll save the analysis for when I write my own. As of 2011, I have yet to write any reviews. I'm not confident enough yet in my writing and other review-related abilities but in due time I will atempt it.
