Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works

Sep 18, 2015

This anime has an Idiot Plot.

It is extremely frustrating to see every character in this plot being incredibly dumb.  Not even just naive Shirou, but experienced characters such as Saber and Rin. Of course, if you had this complaint about the old Fate/Stay Night TV show, this will sound like nothing new to you. Let's list off a few of the largest examples, shall we?

Shirou refusing to let Saber sleep in the same room as him, despite being stabbed through the heart once already.  Saber letting him make that decision, while having witnessed the terrible events of... See full review

Log Horizon 2

Jan 22, 2015

The second season of Log Horizon is a caricature of the first.

Characters have been flanderized to a significant degree, the dialogue is suitably wacky enough for your regular trash animes, and they introduce an incredibly stereotypical and annoying character that everyone wishes would just go away, but persists in being in the show to contribute to the aforementioned wacky factor.

The small crush Serara has in the first season returns only to annoy you with extremely overblown... See full review

Hajime no Ippo: Rising

Jun 14, 2014

This series didn't have as much to live up to as New Challenger did, but somehow manages to fall even flatter than that one.  Whereas there were good parts to New Challenger, Rising seems rotten to the core, and I have a hard time finding anything to praise it for. The visuals are sharp as ever with the Ippo series, and don't disappoint, unlike everything else.  The blasts of air are there, as are all the dramatic lighting and blasts of pressure by the punches.  However, the sound design is lifeless. It has become more obvious than the last series, and the actual sounds in the fights is... See full review

Hajime no Ippo: New Challenger

Jun 10, 2014

As a sequel to the 2000~2002 series, this series had a lot to live up to.  In many ways it does fall short, but in the most important places it holds up.

The areas where it is on par with or surpasses it's predecessor are in visuals, the sound design of the fights, and the choreography.

Visuals are sharp, and in the fights, they have the same intense quality they had before, with screen-shaking punches and blasts of air as the punches connect or slip past their mark. The fight's sound design also lends them weight, and each punch is felt more than just seen, due to the excellent... See full review

Sword Art Online

Aug 24, 2012

This show has gotten some well-deserved hype, because it certainly looks great, and the soundtrack is nice. On top of that, it has a premise that in the beginning, looks very very interesting.

Where this show falls down for me is that the plot is completely and utterly inconsequential.

The problem is that the show tries to head with an episodic format, while not realizing that in many successful episodic shows such as Nichijou or Working!!, the plot of each episode is removed from the others, but they focus on one group of characters.

In Sword Art Online, we see the adventures... See full review
