Solid vanilla romance with established couple. With this setup, everything is progress even when little happens.

Ratman

Oct 8, 2023

Strong start, solid finale, I forgot most of what happened in the middle (took a long break during reading). If I had to complain about something, it would be a certain level of nativity. It's a shounen manga, sot that's probably why, but nobody dies (outside of the backstory). Bad guys (and sometimes heroes) go on rampage, but miraculously everyone is safe afterwards. I heard the series was axed, but the ending didn't felt rushed at all and wrapped all the plot lines.

Dorei Tensei: Sono Dorei, Saikyou no Moto Ouji ni Tsuki

Oct 5, 2023

Solid action adventure fantasy. Decent plot, lots of action, decent ending. Some fights do feel like a filler (random excuse to start a fight like in some fighting game's plot). There is a little explicit content, some gore and nudity (but it isn't a defining feature of the series). There is some nativity to MC's actions, in one chapter he outright kills bad people, but in another he lets a bad guy live (friendship is magic style). In one arc, MC is treated like s*** and the one character who should have taken beef with that, turns a blind eye. There were maybe 3 scenes that wouldn't feel out of place in an... See full review

Aizawa-san Multiplies

Sep 24, 2023

This turned out to be quite good. I was kind of expecting that after reading Fujimura-ku Mates, but here the romance part was actually progressing and the harem bit got resolved pretty quickly. The first chapter made it look like MC will have a relationship with all the copies of female lead, but he actually only has with the original. Other copies support from the side (they actually benefit from the relationship progressing). This series isn't as zanny as Fujimura was and the ending was much more satisfying (even if somewhat abrupt). I wouldn't hate if there was one more volume of this (or 10), but it is... Kubo Won't Let Me Be Invisible

Sep 23, 2023

I wanted to like the series more, but i felt as if very little happened for 100 chapters and also, it was one chapter too short. The start of the series felt a little disjointed with chapters that felt like they were too short and continuity being lost between subsequent chapters. I do like those cute innocent rom-coms, but ever since reading Boku no Kokoro Yabai Yatsu, I find lack of progress very jarring. In fact those two series do share a lot of similar elements, but Yabai Yatsu just does them so much better. Oddly enough, the start of the series feels a little dirty, with all the teasing by female lead... See full review

Onna Kishi to Kemomimi no Ko

Sep 8, 2023

I read 22 chapters, skimmed through the next 10 and then it hit me, this is a kind of fetish manga. Pre-serialization had strong romantic implications between male and female lead, but that's unmarketable (for obvious reasons), so this was mostly cut from serialization (a few chapters from pre-serialization sneaked into the published version and make things confusing and ambiguous at the beginning of the series). I thought that this was a fluffy, wholesome manga about lady knight and her adopted son/disciple, but the one constant this series has is those two cuddling. This is an oddly specific fetish, but... Kimi no Okaasan wo Boku ni Kudasai!

Sep 2, 2023

Sweat and fairly innocent romance manga (my kind of jam). The art was a bit meh, but the story made up for it in spades. If I were to complain about something, the first half had some really unnecessary fanservice (it did nothing for the story). This disappeared completely in the second half. Towards the end it felt like the series was dragging a little and characters needed to figure out that it is ok for them to be together (all thanks to self imposed obstacles/milestones). In this manga rejection leads to close friendship and that leads to romantic relationship (eventually).

Desert Island Survival with the Ladies

Aug 22, 2023

This is one of the series I've discovered through YT recaps and it's one of the better ones. MC and a girl get stranded on a deserted island. They have to work together to survive and there is budding romance between them. Also the fact that MC is a survival nerd and gets an RPG system help. Personally, I don't like those RPG systems in media, but I let it slide this time. Later it is revealed that the island might not be entirely uninhabited and another girl joins the two and shortly after they discover a primitive tribe living on the island. I quite liked on of the later arcs. I'd take any historical and... See full review

Naqua-den

Aug 22, 2023

The is a spin-off series from Kaibutsu Oujo, it's mostly the same thing, colorful characters, supernatural detective work combined with fighting monsters. However this time around, there is more fanservice, a bit of Japanese nationalism and a haremness. Kaibutsu Oujo was harem series in name only, besides (rare) ship-tease (and mostly in the begining) there wasn't anything going between MC and any of the girls. Also Hime was the key character that everyone one was there for in the end. Naqua-den is similar with Naqua as the central character, but this time there are at least 3 girls attracted to MC and the... See full review

The Warrior Princess and the Barbaric King

Aug 22, 2023

The 16 chapters that I've read were genuinely good and managed to be so despite the ridiculous amount of nudity. However, when the series starts discussing magic and willpower it gets a little boring. Also initially all the nudity didn't hit as fanservice as it was part of the story and culture shock factor, but when the series pulls (briefly) tentacles in one chapter and then jumps to yet another ofuro scene in another chapter it does start getting fanservicy. It even manages to give of harem vibes for a few seconds (that route seems to be very unlikely though). Art is mostly good, female lead is slightly... See full review

Amari Mawari

Aug 19, 2023

This was a really cute series. It's mostly episodic comedy with light romance and quirky characters and short chapters. Quite a few of those characters are annoying, but overall, they don't ruin the series. Haru loves dogs, this hobby takes him to an orphanage that keeps some. At the orphanage there is a cute girl named Amari that loves Haru's hair. Kyouka is everyone’s big sister at the orphanage and she is extra protective of Amari. Amari might like more about Haru than just his hair, but Haru is too busy playing with dogs to notice Amari. and Kyouka gets in the way all the time, Even if Haru... See full review

Namae no Nai Kaibutsu: Kumo to Shoujo to Ryouki Satsujin

Aug 2, 2023

Weird, but not bad. The story is split into 2 arcs and could have ended in the first one, instead the second arc is a finale that drags for way too long. The first arc was weird, but in the second arc, through the power of exposition, events of the first arc get normalized somewhat (no midichlorians left unexplained). On the other hand the finale gets weirder and weirder. If it wasn't for one of the antagonists dying a gruesome death multiple times, I would have probably have rated this series lower.. The last chapter was kind of stupid. Also, it was aliens all along. Art was good.

Age Of Terror

Aug 1, 2023

The series is not bad, but there are parts that I don't like and parts I have mixed feelings about. It takes place in near future, where ghosts terrorize the world. Some people can control ghosts and are at the top of society while everyone else is treated badly. MC was at the bottom already and wants to climb to the top and does so at astonishing rate. The best part of the series is when MC has to complete story quests to recruit (and sometimes defeat) ghosts. Also, MC has an interest in one girl and pursues her romantically (which is a nice change from many other series). The meh part is MC is just... See full review

Tsugumomo

Jul 19, 2023

I initially liked the series, but it got too hentai for my taste (not sure how far I've got and how well my score represtents the overall quality). It starts like a battle shounen with somewhat annoying characters, then starts bordering on ecchi romance/harem. Gradually the ecchi content gets cranked up to eleven and then continues to go even further. If that wasn't enough, big portion of the cast gets killed off at some point, but the manga continues business as usual with new characters. It's been a while, since I've read this series, but I remember that the art was good.

Zai x 10

Jul 19, 2023

Starts strong with short chapters that have heavy punchlines, but those stop hitting as hard later on and the series abruptly ends (there was no story, so that doesn't matter much). Lots of random funny stories with zany characters. P.S. I can't believe that the burglar won against the invincible policewoman. She probably killed him seconds later, but still. P.S.2 Some chapters (especially the early ones) were solid 10/10.

Boku wa Hajikko ga Suki

Jul 19, 2023

High school comedy about quirky couples. It never gets truly hilarious or rustles your feels like a good romance, but the ending was kind of sweet (hence the overal score). The art is average at best, often times the story is hard to follow. Even though the chapters are decent length, they jump scene from panel to panel (not unlike some shoujo manga). While the ending was sweet, last chapter also had an unexpected dark moment. It's not a bad manga, but neither the romance or comedy is strong enough to pull you in. At the same time, it's not very long either, so if you like rom-coms, you might actually... See full review

Sekai no Owari no Encore

Jul 18, 2023

I found this series through a YT recap. Sometimes those recaps make bad series appear better than it actually is (or make a mediocre seem bad), so color me surprised when I got sucked into this series and ended gobbling up all available chapters in a short time. Despite what tags might suggest is a half decent action adventure series. Majority of it consists of the weak MC fighting and winning impossible battles. Even though he is accompanied by some of the most OP girls, he ends up having to fight most of his battles alone. The harem aspect gets subverted by the fact, that the girls were love interests of... Princess Resurrection

Jul 18, 2023

I loved this manga to bits and I'm not sure exactly why. It's mostly episodic with some bigger story showing up (and disappearing) every now and then. Each story features some combination of horror, action and detective work. The cast mostly stays the same, but gets mixed up from story to story. It's supposed to be harem, but Hime appears to be the central character and you could cut out MC from of most of the manga and it wouldn't change much (though he gets a few spotlight moments) and there is also next to no romance. This manga has a lot of pop culture references from games to movies. The ending didn't... See full review

Kami Sen.

Jun 24, 2014

Moved from my blog (the post was titled Kami Sen - waste of time): There is a guy living in an onsen, he has a childhood firend who has a crush on him but it's in denial since she is a tsundere and there is also a goddess of poverty who is a guardian deity of the onsen. Later on more goddesses appear and it turns into a regular harem. Sounds similar to Maga Tsuki, but it's worse (and Maga Tsuki is medicore at best). Spoilers ahead: It never gets anywhere (the ending is just a status quo), the romance amounts to a hug scene somewhere at the... See full review

Perowan! Hayashinasai! Goshujinsama♪

Jun 24, 2014

Moved from my blog: Perowan was an ecchi manga about a dog turning into a girl and makeing her master lick her feet. I'm sure you can guess what was the key theme here. It's filled with fanservice and as such not really a good series (though a few shounen series that started around the same time were much worse). After reading a number of chapters I had to lower the score to 1.5, but since the last chapter was surprisingly good I pumped the score to 2 stars. TBH even with the last chapter, the series isn't really worth reading (which probably most of you have figured out from the first sentence of this... See full review

Yankee Figure

Jun 24, 2014

Moved from the blog (though it's only a few sentences of raging over this manga): I skimmed through the raws of Yankee Figure and found out that it's awfully repetitive. The first two translated chapters made it look like it had some potential, but it does not have any. Basically the male lead gets beaten on nearly every page and the female lead gets stripped of her clothes at least once in every chapter and it goes on for 6 volumes straight. In other words it's s***.

Moved from my blog (I know it's not a lot): So I read Kagome Kagome and it was ok, then I came across Kirara which was written by the same author and the short synopsis reminded me of Ashita Dorobou (which is a quite good series). What's the deal with Ashita Dorobou? Basically, there is a love triangle there in which both girls are instances of same person. Ir's a rather rare theme, but it also appears in Kirara. From the start Kirara wasn't very serious, but it was still somewhat fun then. Unfortunately the quality of the story went really down halfway thorough and stayed there. Towards the end the... Sakuranbo Syndrome

Jun 24, 2014

Moved from my blog. This was written based on only half of the series unfortunatelly: Summary: Munenori Agawa is a relatively successful employee of a cosmetic company. Despite that he isn't perfectly content with his job and life. He does not have a girlfriend and in his everyday work he mostly has to deal with female coworkers. Those ladies tend to take advantage of him (in work related matters) a lot: A higher-up at his company, on whom he has a crush, (literately) uses him as a stepping stone while saying that "He shouldn't let people walk over him"; A shop assistant convinces him with (semi... Jun 24, 2014

I had a summary of the series on my blog, but all you really need to know is that it was hilarious (all those freaky facial expressions). If you want to read the summary, it's below: Umehachi is a really short high-school student. His stupidity is only matched by his pervertedness, so when he bumps into an attractive woman in her twenties and she becomes his girlfriend it's like a dream come true for him. Little does he know that his cunning girlfriend, only hangs out with him, because of his ESP powers (of which he doesn't know either). I had a blog post about it, but you don't really need to read the whole of it. Bascally this manga is porn with plot, where 50% is porn and the other 50% is plot. The blog post is below: I found myself liking yakuza manga lately and I thought I might try to read a non sugar coated one. However, reading Gekkoh was a mistake. The story of revange and ummm... forbidden love got replaced with large quantities of borderline Hentai at the end of the first volume. It was bad, it really was. Ga-rei

Jun 24, 2014

Previously posted on the blog in a post titled Ga-rei... why, oh WHY?! I just finished reading Ga-rei and I must say I'm totally disappointed. The manga starts of as a decent (though somewhat generic) shounen. Boy meets girl (rather gets run over by her scooter) then boy and girl fight some evil spirits etc. It's that kind of cliche thing, but it's somewhat ok, until... ...it gets extremely cheesy halfway. From there on the plot goes only downwards (and really fast at that). The story doesn't reach the level of crappyness that Kurohime and Medaka Box posses, but it's still bad. Like in Medaka Box, cool... See full review

Change 123

Jun 24, 2014

Moved from my blog: I have mixed feeling about Change 123 manga. On one hand the story was actually interesting, on the other, there was some quite intense ecchi in it and in rather large quantities. The story goes like this: Wimpy protagonist who is a nerd and an (Kamen Rider) otaku falls in love with his classmate Matoko who is an unpopular, clumsy, shy and antisocial girl. Motoko has a secret however, she has a split personality disorder. Besides her basic personality she harbors 3 more: the child-like Mikiri, the rebelious Hibiki and the calm and collected Fujiko.
