Sora no Manimani

Jun 24, 2014

Moved from my blog (I had another post about this anime in my blog, but it wan't really worth much): Sora no Manimani turned out to be a decent slice of life series. Many people would probably find it boring, but I like slice of life anime, so I ended up liking Sora no Manimani. At first I was expecting it to be more romance driven and I was worried it might turn into a harem series. However the romance was just a secondary theme, which wasn't even concluded in the anime (it might be in the manga, so I might try reading it later). As for the harem part, even though 3 girls were interested in the... See full review

The Legend of Black Heaven

Jun 24, 2014

Moved from my blog (I clearly haven't written a proper review for this series and I wrote the original post back in 2011): It's been a while since I watched Legend of Black Heaven, so I don't remember all the details, but here are some of my thoughts on the series. At first I thought that, because the story is really crazy, the show has a potential. Unfortunately I was wrong, this anime is quite disappointing. The only good thing about this anime was Oji's wife, who was the best character of this series and a also really good character in general. But I'm writing again in a way that people, who haven't... Eureka Seven

Jun 24, 2014

Moved from my blog (this time it was split into 3 blog posts): Post 1: First impression: Eureka Seven I started watching Eureka Seven. I'm currently on episode 8. The visuals and audio are awesome so far. Renton is very annoying, but then again life isn't treating him well so far. The story gives a vibe of generic shounen, but I didn't expect much of it in the first place. After all, a good shounen is good (even if a bit generic). The art style slightly reminds me of RahXephon (it had good visuals too), but this is not surprising as both were made by Bones. On the other hand the story makes me think of... See full review

Chainsaw Maid

Jun 24, 2014

Moved from my blog: Sometimes after watching an anime I'm asking myself one important question: "WTF did I just watch?" Chainsaw Maid is one of those anime. Well there is a huge ammount of similar animations floating around the internet (not necessarily Japanese ones), but what makes CM stand apart from those is the insane amount of gore. In case you wonder what I am talking about: Chainsaw Maid is a claymation (stop-motion cartoon done using plasticine) on top of that its a b-movie with zombies, a maid and a chainsaw. While it deserves recognition for being an attempt to do a b-movie using... See full review

Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl

Jan 10, 2014

It's a cute series with witty dialogues and somewhat cool male lead. By cool I mean the fact that he can actually talk back to all sorts of weirdoes (which the majority of the cast seems to consist of). The plot revolves around him moving to a city, going to high school and living with his aunt. The aunt happens to have a daughter who thinks she is an alien. The girl is his age and she rather quickly becomes attached to him. During the course of the series the guy also becomes friends with two female classmates who appear to be romantically interested in him (but he fails to notice it 90% of the time). For... Nekomonogatari (Black)

Jun 9, 2013

Oh Nekomonogatari why do you piss me off so? But let's get back to the beginning. A few years back, my friend lent me his copy of Bakemonogatari singing all kinds of praise about the series. I have to admit I was kind of curious because it was made by studio Shaft and the main character was voiced by Kamiya Hiroshi who did so well in the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei series. I've watched the first 2 episodes and though "That was kind of cool, but pointlessly erotic.", but upon reaching the third episode I found myself bored with all the talking. After that I just skimmed through the rest of the... See full review

Waiting in the Summer

Dec 20, 2012

Ano Natsu de Matteru is an anime series from the creator of Onegai Teacher. The guy surely improved over the years. The overall execution and writing were better than in Onegai Teacher (not to mention the difference in art quality). On the other hand the story itself wasn't all that great and Onegai Teacher had a more coherent one. The love polygon with lots of unrequited love gave a strong Toradora vibe. So what's the series about? It's romcom about a bunch of teenagers where (nearly) every kid has an unrequited love. There is this plot about an alien girl (which was obviously taken from Onegai Teacher)... See full review

From Up on Poppy Hill

Jul 15, 2012

It was a very pleasant Ghibli movie. It has a similar style of storytelling to My Neighbour Totoro and due to that fact the less you know about the movie and the story before watching the more you enjoy it. I knew next to nothing about it before watching and enjoyed it a great deal. If you consider yourself a fan of My Neighbour Totoro, you'll probably love Kokuriko-Zaka Kara (it's slightly stronger on drama than Totoro and it doesn't contain any magical creatures). Audio and Visuals were beautiful. I liked the story and characters a lot. ******* MINOR SPOILER ******** The girl showed more initiative than... See full review

Futakoi Alternative

Jun 19, 2012

It was fun for most part, though the angst part was not. The way the angst part got resolved seemed cheap. The craziness reminded me a lot of FLCL. Anyone else noticed NGE reference in the last episode? There was plenty more references through the series, but somehow I already forgot most of them. It seems my review this time does not have a proper form, let me fix that a bit (though I can't guarantee it's not going to be vague). Story: Romance story between a guy in his twenties and teenage twin girls. This one takes a strange turn, because there isn't any angst on the guy's part nor the girls' part... See full review

Asura Cryin'

Apr 21, 2012

So I was writing my rant about Asura Cryin' and Asura Cryin' 2 and I got logged out when I clicked on the "submit" button. I really don't feel like writing the whole thing again, so I'll just stick to the main points. Watching the thing was a waste of time. The story was so-so and the writing was poor. Romance where guy gets treated like s*** even when he did nothing wrong is not my kind of thing. The guy in question was indecisive and didn't had any redeeming qualities. Other than that I didn't like Nia, but it probably has something to do with my dislike for tsundere lolis (and tsundere in... See full review

Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar

Mar 12, 2012

Here is a short and somewhat vague review of Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari. Edit: Time to make it less vague. Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari is a spin-off from the Tenchi Muyo (which I have never actually seen). As you can guess it's a harem series, but it focuses more on the comedy than harem part. Story and plot were unimpressive, yet the the whole thing was still quite fun for the first 6 episodes. Things started to look dull and generic around episode 7. My real complain about first half was lack of story development. The story was... See full review

My Bride is a Mermaid

Nov 8, 2011

I feel I wrote this review a bit messy and relied too much on the reader actually having seen this anime. If you think so too and don't follow with stuff I have written, please leave me a comment. :) Story: A boy named Nagasumi nearly drowns in sea. Thankfully his life is saved by a mermaid named San. However due to some odd reason, he is now forced to marry said mermaid. She also happens to be the only daughter of a mermaid yakuza boss. The basic concept for the story sounds somewhat cliche. There are tons of anime with similar story but with aliens or other supernatural beings in place of the... See full review

Gokusen

Oct 9, 2011

Story: Gokusen is about a granddaughter of yakuza boss working as a math teacher in all-boy high school full of delinquents. The plot revolves around Yankumi (the heroine) getting her students out of trouble (kicking butts) and trying to keep her yakuza origin a secret, which is the source of all sort of gags. After all it is a comedy anime. Gokusen anime covers only a small part of the manga and even skips some of the stories from that small part. While anime is mostly faithful to the manga, it suffers from slow pacing. A single story in the manga can take one chapter and thats about 5 minutes of reading... See full review
