Lately I have been getting my anime fix on more than I have been for quite a while. I have been spending much more time watching anime with friends (and funny enough, not so much when I am by myself). So, this has gotten me to do something that I normally don't do; look at the upcoming/current anime of 2012 and decide what shows I want to watch.
Let me preface things and say that I really am not that interested in watching much anime that is in a high school (or younger) setting unless it offers something very different. I am 23 and with every year I am finding it harder to relate to the constant stream of teenage main characters...but I will address that in another blog post.
Also, before I get in to 2012, let me say that 2011 was a fantastic year for anime with a lot of really great shows...some which I am still in the middle of (Ano Hi Mita, Usagi Drop, No. 6, Hanasaku Iroha, Steins;Gate, and Madoka). I think the last that was this good was 2008, and before that I am not sure.
Ok, so point being is I am on my anime fix and I want to get myself pumped for some 2012 shows. Upon looking, there really isn't too much that I am finding myself getting excited over. Lots of sequels to shows I don't much care about or just plots that sound generic or that just sound like I would not enjoy at all.
I KNOW that we need to wait and see until all the 2012 shows have aired to really judge them. There are certainly some shows that don't sound good but end up being pretty great. But for right now I am only going to post the 2012 shows that I have any interest in.
Ano Natsu de Matteru (Waiting for the Summer) - The idea of an anime focusing around filming a summer movie sounds interesting. The high school setting and the lobe polygon might be enough to turn me off of this one. That and J.C. Staff does do a lot of crappy shows.
Sakamichi no Apollon (Kids on the Slope) - High school setting. ugh. Historical setting (1966). Now I am more interested. Using Jazz music to form bonds of friendship? Count me in! Screw K-on, this sounds like it will be the high school music club anime to watch.
Tasogare Otome x Amnesia (Dusk Maiden of Amnesia) - A seemingly decently sounding ghost story. From a quick review, the atmosphere of the shows seems to be pretty good, but the ecchi might turn me off of it if there is too much (I am soooooo tired of ecchi).
Jormungand - An action/mercenary anime? Yes please! If it is anything like Black Lagoon or Phantom, I will be a happy camper. I hope this one turns out to be good.
Sakasama no Patema: Beginning of the Day - Short online anime directed by the same person that directed Eve no Jikan. Sounds like a winner to me. This "show" starts out with several short episodes and then is finished with a movie. If it as close to as good as Eve no Jikan, I am sure I will love it.
5 shows...well, more like 4 and a movie if I am being technical. And only 3 of which I know I want to watch. Not sure how I feel about 2012 so far. Hopefully it throws some surprises!
If you have any anime that I think I missed or that I will enjoy, leave a comment!
