This second entry exits because the first one was over 20,000 characters. Please read that one first.
A complete listing of good characters in this show:
Could a single character actually be consistent? Or likeable? Or not awful? Or human? At a certain point it’s just fruitless trying to find the logical core in this show. I mean, I’m reviewing it so I’m really trying, but that cohesion just isn’t there. It’s completely unstable.
People watch this and unironically enjoy it. Lots of them. But then, the same is true of Steins;Gate and that show’s terrible too. (Oh no! Unpopular opinions!) I don’t get my fellow anime fans sometimes. Oh wow, my opinions don’t match 1:1 with the exact mainstream view. It’s like I’m an actual human being or something.
What’s a reasonable review length? Because Google Docs says this is 17 pages and nobody is going to read a 17 page review. Well obviously I’m not going to literally just copy and paste this, but I need to know where my limit is. I can’t just bloviate and hope for the best. I mean, there’s no set limit, but there’s a de facto one. I think 1k-1.5k words is a reasonable range. Lets you cover a decent amount of territory without going so long you lose everyone. I mean, sure, that’s going to lose some people who have TL;DR macroed, but I never hoped to garner their attention anyway. I’d rather write something good than aim for something you can fit in a tweet. (Although those don’t have to be exclusive.)
“Then why is your review so terrible?” Oh, you hypothetical scamp.
I’m going to have no idea what this means in the morning, but Ohana is a marshmallow. (Also, her name is Ohana, and she wears flowers! You get it? Huh?)
No seriously how am I coming up on 4k words of notes. What am I even doing.
So this focus on Ko-chan reveals just how little of him we even see. There is no Ko-chan. There is a ghost, a shell, a concept. He exists as merely a convenient device for Ohana. He’s not actually a character, though. He may as well be a sack of potatoes for all the difference it would make.
When did Ohana make all those friends? I know we didn’t get too much of her at school, but she never seemed that popular. Or was she? Who knows! But you sure did force that big farewell, didn’t you?
And it’s over! Our long, national nightmare is over!
Oh man now I have to actually write this thing.
So the other rec was Heaven’s Lost Property. When I went to download it I saw the screenshots. A whole lot of girls in not a whole lot of clothes. Welp. (Pirating anime? How could I!) (Pfft. I have Coalgirls releases of Toradora downloading right now. But it’s not like I’ve never bought anime or manga. Who am I defending myself to?)
I feel like this DDL leaves me less chance of being one of 1337 defendants in a suit with Funimation, but man it’s slow. I think CR has Hanasaku but I just torrented that. But this torrent isn’t on Bakabt so the heck with it. Grabbing the group I want off of Nyaa would probably be slow too. And I can play a partially downloaded file if it’ll finish downloading soon enough. Not so simple with a torrent. WHY AM I STILL TAKING NOTES HERE. This isn’t even about Hanasaku Iroha anymore. Oh goddess I can’t stop.
