I watched Voltron as a kid and fell in love with giant robotic cats. Then over the years, I'd maybe catch parts of some different series or the occasional film that came on at 3 am. It's only been recently that I've really gotten in to watching anime. However, the manga bug has yet to bite me. I tried it out and didn't like it.

The interweb has been a great resource for finding new series. I really dig the exchange of reviews and recommendations. Although at times I feel like I've had to learn a completely different language. I'm still not entirely sure what fanservice, GAR, otaku, etc. exactly mean.

I find anime snobbery to be a huge turn off. We all know these types: hates anything dubbed or that has achieved mainstream audience success and have rabid anger towards anyone who doesn't share their opinion (Note: I do prefer subtitles myself). If I meet these people, I'm sure to strike up a conversation about "the impressive, english vocal ranges of characters in the japanimated cartoon called Dragonball Z."

Cowboy Bebop, while I did watch it earlier than most other series I've viewed, is my favorite. It's great; the stories, characters, music, and everything else I failed to mention really make it a complete work of art. I don't think it's overrated. It's fallen victim to being so popular that it's cool to hate it. I dub this the "Microsoft PC Syndrome." (I'm still working on names. Other possibilites: Hipster Bias, Britney Spears Effect, Pretentious Jackoff).

Currently everything on my anime list, I feel, is worth watching. The only exception being Claymore (didn't think it was bad, just lacking in several departments). Granted, many other people loved Claymore. Basically though, I've been compiling well received series through strong internet consensus.
